We have guys in VT and RRA that have been playing for 3 full season and they are still marginal talents at best. We have another scrimmage and get reports of RRA taking bad angles and getting torched for a long touchdown ( I know it's the spring, but it's the same tune as the last 3 years).

I also know that RRA should have been a TE or LB here because he is too slow to play S, but with the other options on our roster he remains a starter. The kid I thought may make some plays at S for us ( D. Crawford) is now a slot WR/RB, and there seems to be no young options beyond that.

Couple that with the fact that almost all of the DB's we brought in during this recruiting cycle are CB because of the lack of talent at CB, I see another extremely long season of giving up long runs and getting beat deep because of bad angles and poor speed from RRA and VT.

VT gives everything he has, just put on too much bad weight and seems to have lost a step. And from all accounts RRA has worked his *** off in the gym, it just is equaling plays on the field.

Does anyone think any of the freshman can make an impact at S? Can Gunther move to S? Is Armbrister going to surprise and give us some quality snaps? Or am I just over analyzing this whole situation?

I would imagine that 1 or 2 of the new DBs will end up at S after they get a shot at CB. that may take till mid season though

I don't see you as overanalyzing this situation. I think we all can agree that both Ray Ray and VT leave something to be desired. I just don't see any of the freshmen outplaying them and taking their spot. I guess Armbrister made a nice play Saturday in the backfield but other than that there were no reports of him making plays. I can see Gunter moving to safety when the rest of this class getting here, but again, I don't know if he'll outplay either and take their spot. It'll be nice however to have somebody else at safety who's a threat to take their spot.

Seems like the only CB with the size to grow into S is Deon Bush and from all accounts he has a much bigger upside at CB. I can envision our Secondary getting abused this year, especially coupled with the youth along the DL. This could be another very long season.

If we had DEs who could get after the QB and disrupt their QBs that'd help immensely, however, I don't see that player on our roster yet (that's including Chick). I know we all love Chick and his effort, but I don't see him as that disrupted force to bother a passing game. His sacks come off second effort and hustle plays based on good coverage. I don't see him abusing a tackle and getting to the QB before he has a chance to set up.

I think we can get that from Chick at times, but we need a freshman to come in and give us some serious snaps. I just don't feel that the Secondary is strong enough to help the DL, and vice versa.

I don't think Safety is as big an issue as CB, DL, or even WR.

Miami has zero proven playmakers on offense at WR, TE, or RB.

with VT....RRA......AJ and swasey.......they arent a stellar group at all........but if we can get solid play from the corners......it may not be as bad

***** Deon Bush moving to safety, dude is gonna grow big enough to be a linebacker!

im not that concerned with safeties.

We pretty much know what we will get....

we have two guys that are "solid" tacklers....both lack long speed and range though...but both have experience and will provide some sort of leadership(VT atleast) to a young d-squad.

One problem on our d more important than safety to me will be @ dend.....who the heck will rush the passer?....we have a grand total of 5 dends......2 of them are severely undersized and the others have done nothing much outside of Chick(whoo is just a solid edge rusher).......not getting much f a rush will force us to blitz ...which will leave our safety guys your worried about having to cover alot more ground than normal.

I'm not that worried about our safeties because i know their limitations and what too expect from them....hopefully our d-cord can figure out what they do best and put them in position to suceed an not pigeonhole them into something their not.

I think u guys are over thinking all of this... VT and ray ray will do a great job this year. This is the begining of the season, sprng at that... give them a break. They are getting all the rust out.... you have 2work your way up 2 football shape and speed they arenot there yet... everything will fall into place soon... just watch what I tell you... Ray Ray and VT will have an all american year... and might also increase there draft stock! Time will tell just watch and see!

All-American?

I'd settle for All-ACC...

second team...

honorable mention

All-American year? Not a chance.

I've been saying this for a long time, S is our weakest position. Great safety play can cover up a lot of wholes in a defense and at this point I'll be happy with just decent Safety play. It's our biggest need for the 2013 class, need to find a few play making safeties. I'm hoping Jenkins can be one.

knowing what their limitations are the coaches need to put them in positions to succeed. like everyone's favorite coach once said "you can't trade 'em"
