Our OL room is FILTHY

Another key connection here between the OL ranking, RB room ranking and WR room ranking…

Each one is the best room in the ACC. Now add Cam Ward, and to a lesser extent, Arroyo/Williams/Lofton.

There is zero excuse to ever put up less than 30 points this year. 35 a game is more than doable, I expect it.

Get to the ACC Championship or pitchforks are coming out.

those 3 TE's "should" put up sneaky big #'s.. especially Lofton as a Swiss Army knife.... Teams will be concentrating on WR board and Martinez

Until proven on the field this is by far a weaker line than last year. I could care less about PFF rankings.
How is it by far weaker? Miami returns 3 starters who all have reportedly improved while adding a all Big10 selection at Center and First Team All-MACCC Tackle.

*Jalen Rivers, as a RJR coming off injury, 1st year starter at LT and 1st year in Dawsons offensive system, he was named 2023 All-ACC Second Team
*Anez Cooper, as a True SO, 2nd year starter at RG and 1st year in Dawsons offensive system, was named 2023 All-ACC Honorable Mention
*Francis Mauigoa, as a True FR, 1st year starter at RT and 1st year in Dawsons offensive system, was named 2023 All-ACC Honorable Mention
It's safe to assume that another year in this offensive system and another year being coached by Cristobal and Mirabal, these players will improve. It has been reported several times that Rivers and Cooper have both taken big steps in their development.

It's also widely known that players make their biggest jump between their freshman and sophomore year so we should expect to see a massive improvement out of Mauigoa .

If those three alone improve, that will make this 2024 offensive line better than 2023's.

Miami replaced Second Team All-ACC center Matt Lee with Honorable Mention All-Big Ten center Zach Carpenter. If this coaching staff can get the best out of him (as they have done with multiple offensive linemen over the years) Miami will once again have an All Conference center.

Moving Mauigoa to LG would IMO take this offensive line to "best in the nation" level. Mauiguoa and Cooper can help clean up any issues Carpenter might have while giving Miami two of the best guards in space in all of college football.

This lineup would be massive and one of the best in the nation

LT Jalen Rivers RSR 6-5 325 (2023 All-ACC Second Team)
LG Francis Mauigoa SO 6-6 325 (2023 All-ACC Honorable Mention)
C Zach Carpenter RSR 6-5 295 (2023 All-Big Ten Honorable Mention)
RG Anez Cooper JR 6-6 325 (2023 All-ACC Honorable Mention)
RT Markel Bell JR 6-9 340 (2023 All-MACCC First Team)

So we had to max protect for a three man rush? We needed seven guys to block three? Ok.

I'll give you that we hyped them up and then they weren't drafted (although that's only half correct), but let's not stretch this like a heated up girlfriend or wife trying to win an argument.

Great post. People really can't grasp that it's a virtual certainty that the 3 returning starters we have will improve. So it's not the same line but replacing Lee and Cohen. It's a better LT than we had last year. It's a better RG than we had last year. It's, very likely, a MUCH better RT than we had last year (assuming Mauigoa stays here).

So yes, is Carpenter going to be as good as Lee? That's TBD. It's certainly a pretty good chance that he is. And, IMO, absolute worst-case is he's a slight step down? It's not like we're losing Jason Kelce and replacing him with a freshman. Lee was very good, but he wasn't Brett Romberg, and the kid we have coming in has plenty of evidence of being a good player in a very good league.

So really, the only thing that can possibly make this a "far weaker" line is if the LG position is just a complete sieve. I'm going to remain optimistic that 2 of the best OL coaches in the country can find one kid out of all this beef (pause) to be at least OK in that spot.

So, there's a somewhat decent chance the line is even better. There's a pretty decent chance it's just as good. There's a very small chance it's slightly worse. There is no chance it's far worse. I award the dude you responded to no points, and may God have mercy on his soul.

In addition we can expect much better depth with Samson Okunlola, Matthew McCoy, and Tommy Kinsler all with another year in the system.

"...by far weaker line than last year..." is a bit much, however, you do make a point.

Until proven on the field, the loss of Cohen + Lee are of great concern. For sure others played well and those returning starters should match, if not exceed, their performance from last season. With that said, Cohen and Lee were the two engines that really made most everything go in that room. If our Hurricanes are unable to find those pieces that replace or upgrade from their departure, it's going to cost a game or more in the W column.

I'm not the guy to click thru tape and break down plays as I don't try to memorize 7n5 seasons like I used to but it happened more than it should..
We used way too much extra help to protect last year. Part of the problem was that we had no actual tight end. McCormick was worthless as a receiver and our #2 and 3 tight ends were often tackles wearing 80 something jerseys. Compare the Louisville and Boston college games to games earlier in the season. They stopped keeping everyone in to block and Van Dyke looked like a different player. Yeah, he got hit a bit but his literal best asset was standing in the face of pressure and delivering passes into 1 on 1 coverage.

I don’t want to see McCormick or any offensive tackle lined up at tight end this year unless it’s 4th and inches.

It also had a lot to do with TVD having cement legs and then being hurt on top of that, imo. I think you’ll see a lot less of that this year because Dawson should trust Cam to be able to elude a free rusher. I actually think you’ll see WAY less max protect this season. We have a QB who benefits way more from receivers running around in a secondary vs having all day to throw.

UF at 10 surprises me. FSU makes sense imo, they’ve done a decent job identifying talent there.

Part of UF’s ranking is Zandamela imo, otherwise I can’t see why anyone would think that room is top 10 nationally.
I was curious about UF too. Wasn't their OL pretty bad last yr? Did they make any big additions outside of Zandamela? Is he even ready to start there?

I thought there were times last year we went max protect when we didn’t need to. Wasting a possible pass catcher to keep an extra TE to block.
I wondered last year if Mario was determined not to let the OL be exploited since that is his speciality.

That said, I think this year Mario has to let it fly, in terms of philosophy and protecting. We got enough talent and experience on the line and we got an agile QB and so many mouths to feed in terms of pass catchers. We should be 4 wide or empty lots this year and put a little trust in the OL to hold up and even more trust in the QB/WRs to make big plays.

I know it sounds weird, but Mario needs to let his passing game open up the run game this year.
