OT Jaden Wilkerson commits to Miami

OL has historically been one of the hardest positions to evaluate. (2nd hardest on offense after QB)

Personally I'm looking for movement skills and size. He's got both.
Some high school linemen just get off on being bigger than everybody and just leaning on smaller guys. This kid can actually move and get up to the next level.

Out of how many draft eligible 3*, 4*, and 5* OL, though? That's the thing. Overall there are about 35 composite 5* each year, about 400 4*, and over 1500 3* kids.

Logically, it should come as no surprise that there are fewer 5* and 4* OL compared to 3* OL taken in the top 100 of the draft. Because there are way more draft eligible 3* recruits. In the class of 2020, there were 2 composite 5* OL (both 1st rounders in the 2023 draft, BTW), 56 composite 4* OL, and 434 composite 3* OL.

I made a note of that. But i compared that to WRs position for example where there were 15 top 100 players drafted, 11 were 4 stars and 4 were 3 stars, none were unranked. Also we are talking about top 100 picks, meaning players that teams are expecting to be contributors day 1 or first season atleast. If u are gonna find players that are underrated, or underranked, the OL position is one of if not the most likely spot. So ill trust people with a track record, of scouting and development.

3 criteria to measure HS players
1. Stars
2. Multiple offers from big time programs ( see above)
3.The physical traits to succeed in college
( height weight length speed strength quickness)

Looking at highlights is waste of time

Battered women syndrome. We've been beat down for so long people have forgotten there was once a time where teams said the same thing but in reverse. "Miami offered them? Then we need to offer them." That is what Mario is trying to bring back. We just haven't seen a high powered talent evaluation operation in a loooong time. Now we are and some people can't handle it.

I don't think I saw the post you are talking about, but if you link it I'll check it out. I've never seen anyone actually do a deep dive of % drafted by star ranking and by position. On3 has this historical data by star ranking (but not position), but even that uses "averages" per class instead of actual draft eligible player populations.

Ultimately, if what you're saying is the odds of getting a non-blue-chip, impact player at OL is better than it is at most other positions, that's probably right. The issue is it's still going to be a worse hit rate than the blue-chips.

Do Mario/Mirabal evaluate OL better than most staffs? How much better? Good enough to trust two straight classes of 75%-100% 3* recruits? That's a whole different discussion. I'm skeptical on the strategy, but willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

Those schools didn’t offer Cooper or McCoy either. One will be a draft pick. The other played very well in the time he got and showed a lot of promise. A lot of times Iowa won’t offer kids in Florida that the big 3 are after. It’s usually a waste of resources.

You could say the same for guard. Most college level guards were tackles in high school.

It sounds like they put out lazy ratings ... they didn't even review film.

Lew was a 4 star in a site or two. At least one. And many of our 3 stars are composite 4 stars.
