OT: Corruption in NCAA BBAll

Absolutely agree with you except for that last part. This is the second time the basketball program has come under fire for paying players in the last ten years. Even it's probably not going to be a significant punishment or going to anything significant towards us, it'll probably be a little more than a slap on the wrist because it's their 2nd investigation in ten years.

Sorry for the neg btw, I was trying to upvote it.

Isn't probation over?

Aren't the allegations (in this complaint) from August, 2017?

I don't think it'll matter if we were off probation or were not off probation....the only thing they'll see is the basketball program was just on was probation and now there's another accusation.

Granted the NCAA makes it up as it goes along. Probation is over.

I would guess Coach 3 is going to be Brunt and I think there is good chance that the University cleans house. I am very dissapointed.

From the Herald:

When Scout.com interviewed Little in late August, he said he was considering UM because: “I’m from Florida. I love the campus...It has perfect weather. I feel like they have a high chance for me to come in and play right away. Me and coach (Larranaga) and (assistant) coach (Jamal) Brunt, we have a really good relationship and we click with each other.”

Super NBA agent Andy Miller has his firm raided today. His computer taken. I can only imagine what a top 5 NBA agent has on his computer. Seems this is far from over.

Worst part about that article was Coach L and his Lawyer meeting with UM Brass tonight.

The fact that Coach 3 was not charged at this point is a mirage. From point 2 of the indictment: Gatto, Code, Dawkins, Augustine, Sood and others known and unknown, including basketball coaches at University #6 and University 7, participated in a scheme to defraud by telephone, email and wire transfers of funds, ..... by concealing bribe payments. Once Gatto et. al. are interviewed and subpoenaed they will very likely sing like canaries (as they plea bargain) and much more will be found out. The FBI will also very likely subpoena any and all records of Coach #3 plus potentially others in the basketball office. I would expect Coach 3 to be suspended without pay soon as he is named in a Federal indictment for the work he performed in the job he holds for the University. And all of that is a criminal matter. Once the NCAA leverages what the FBI has already gathered in evidence, and in their subsequent investigation, the hammer will be dropped and the BB program will likely get hit with severe sanctions. Louisville and Auburn I think will fare worse. While I am saddened Miami is embroiled in this, it's about time the big boys (FBI) stepped in and handled what the NCAA was either too incompetent or complicit in to deal with.

Man, I love Coach L. Hate to see his name and program being dragged through the mud. Am so sick of seeing Miami's name in the media for bad things. Pure greed on everyone's part.

Ugh.

"Hurricanes head coach Jim Larrañaga did not return calls. He and his attorney, Stuart Grossman, were meeting with UM officials late Tuesday afternoon."

Pure speculation based on zero facts on your part. Anything is possible, assuming the worst outcome, or any outcome, is ridiculous.

Pretty good educated guess, IMO. This really isn't that hard to figure out. Sure, he and we don't KNOW anything. But this is a very, very plausible outcome. MUCH more plausible than this just blows over and everyone forgets about it.

Uk, duke, unc and other big time programs better be sweating this one. That’s BIG news...

Feel free to assume the worst.

There are always people that do. A lot more info needs to be revealed before anyone can feel comfortable with any prediction, but like anything else in life, there are always people that are personally invested in trying to assure everyone that the worst will happen.

It sucks that a potentially elite bag man got nabbed. Good ole' boy Alabama boosters cannot compete with a multinational company like Adidas.

I wonder if the NCAA would frown on us terminating our Adidas deal and becoming the first Big Baller Brand school?

This sucks. We're so low on the totem pole of cheating in all sports. If the FBI really wants to clean this up go after Duke, UNC, Kentucky, UL and in football go after bama, LSU, Penn St, Ole Miss, Ohio St.

all those schools have turned paying for players into an art.

THis just came from article on ESPN. This just doesn't sound good at all

The FBI alleged Gatto, Code, Dawkins and Augustine attempted to broker a deal to send another high school player to Miami, an Adidas-sponsored school, for $150,000. According to the complaint, "the payments from [Adidas] to Player-12 were allegedly requested specifically by a coach at [Miami] (Coach-3), who allegedly called Gatto directly and who, according to Dawkins, Code, and Augustine, 'knows everything' and, in particular, 'knows something's gotta happen for' Player-12 to commit to attending University-7."

Shït, the Adidas mothership may just shït can the CFB/CBB branch and focus on image control. **** apparel corporation paying bribes to HS players...if true, WTF...

Should have stayed with Nike! At least they either don't cheat in this manner, or are more slick and don't get caught :monkey-serious: (Supreme sarcasm intended)

Why would dUKe, UK, and UNC have to pay players? As I keep saying, you need to be suspicious if a top basketball recruit does not choose one of those schools. What is the school he chooses doing "Paying" him to get him away from those schools?

Player never came or deal wasn't completed... thank god.

But the problem was that UM was probably caught on tape negotiating $$$ to secure a player.... thats the BIG problem that UM faces.

Along with who knew about this ....
