OL Juan Minaya commits to Miami

Isn't allowed to hear...? Come on man. Do you really think that's what I'm saying?

How Minaya looks in the gym in Feb is not an indication of his readiness a year and a half from now.

It's ridiculous. That's like saying if you got kicked in the nuts on Friday, your **** could fall off in October.. of 2026.

We JUST went through this with Emory. The coaches liked him. He was turning heads. Turns out they knew he sucked too. That doesn't give you any pause at all?

I get it… There should be a certain amount natural pause with every single update. But are you saying it's impossible that any update can actually be real? Just because Emory Williams ended up being trash? HE's just passinging some info, it's not like he's telling you bet the farm.

And just because he didn't repeat it word for word (and it may not have been said to him in anything other than a vague manner) doesn't mean it's based only on the kid's **** bench press. Maybe D Money told his guy "give me a name or two on the lines…Someone who could emerge". And they said "Minaya…Kid's an animal in the weight room and can move people out there, wouldn't be surprised if he's our next right guard after Cooper"

I just don't see the need to remind everyone how bad Emory Williams was when we hear a good update for a player. And once they get on the practice field I don't care what their ranking was. There's kids all over that NFL draft that weren't ranked high.

Oh ffs...

A guy ranked outside the top 1,000 in his class, who hasn't played a single snap, looks good in the weight room.. in February of 25.. could work himself into the lineup.. in 2026.

That's a helluva reach.

Have we learned nothing from the "Emory is turning heads" fiasco?

First team All-ACC in 2027, assuming he doesn't declare for the NFL draft after a stellar 2026 campaign.

Guy in town got hit in the genitalia by a liner back through the box from a chick in slow pitch softball last summer. Ended up losin one ol’ boy but not the member (sp.)

You put a lot of fail safes in that narrative but I was determined to share that regardless.

How many times we gone dig into the Cooper bag? Once in 4 years is the exception not the rule.

But maybe all that's needed?

Also, for reference the 2019-2021 Oregon Ducks offensive lines never ran for less than 4.9 (never ranked below 38 in the nation) and were always among the nation's best in categories like line yards, pressure rate, etc…Each one of those teams had at least 2, and 2 of them 3 3* ranked players, a couple that were low 3* and a player that wasn't even ranked out of high school as starters.

Maybe we'll just use that bag instead? Does that one work?

And remember I'm not arguing anything other than a good update on Minaya MAYBE MAYBE MAYBE just be a legit good update and something to remember for the future.

Anything else I can clear up for you, junior?

Only thing more annoying on this board than the overly optimistic dudes is the overly-optimistic patrol type dudes who think you're not allowed to say a good thing about any player or coach. The captain-skeptical-to-the-rescu- type dudes.

I mean someone told DMoney that Minaya is a beast and killing it in the weight room, may be in the mix next year… He shares the info because that's what he does. And no one is allowed to be glad to hear that, or find that interesting? Or be glad to hear some progress? Because he wasn't highly ranked? Because he wasn't a board favorite? Because there were some conditioning issues at 17-18 years old? No one here is saying he's John ****** Hannah.

Annoying yet amusing and predictable. Can set your watch to this dude.

It’s very possible, that said, if you pay attention you will find out that DMoney ends up giving this type of report on every single signee every single year. It’s not even spring practice let alone fall camp.

Nah not every one, and again there's nothing wrong with reporting some positives…I have been critical of @DMoney doing that as well. But the other end of the spectrum is no better, and even more annoying imo.

Take DMoney and all these sites reports with some caution, I get it… But racing to the message board to be the first one to scream "BUT BUT EMORY WILLIAMS" simply because he tells you they like Minaya's progress isn't any better.

Just my 2 cents on this. It’s the boy that cried wolf story with these reports, if I’m being objective and fair, notwithstanding d$ being the owner of CIS, and me being his freely ordained servant. We’ve heard this year after year. It’s how the term “Greentree All-American” was born. The phenomena is real.

Now that said, there’s a mixed bag… sometimes these reports turn out to be right or right in part, like with Lofton this past year, and with Anez Cooper and KJ Osborn previously, but then there’s instances like Emory, Jacurri, Jeff Garcia, even Jadais Richard I think. These reports should be put in context for everyone at this point - where we just wait and see when and how they play.

I’m past the point of caution when it comes to theses reports on this site. I’ve been here since the site started and eventually even a person on my middling intelligence will catch on. It is every single year and if it’s not every signee it’s close. It’s only February, by the time May rolls around, just about every signee will be mentioned as turning heads. Check the Banks/ATMs just from last year if youd like. I hope this report is true though, but I won’t believe **** til Saturdays come around.

This is exactly where I'm at. Exactly. Sometimes everyone is on the same page about a guy, like Lofton. I also agree with @bobbydigius . Seems like every signee gets their moment in the sun(shine pumping) at some point.

This is what D wrote in the first paragraph of the bank:
"Disclaimer: they aren't playing football. We can't read too much into this stuff."

He told us not to read too much into it. What is left to debate?

As for Minaya:
"Some believe his emergence contributed to Frankie Tinilau's decision to enter the Portal."

Frankie Tinilau was himself a 6'5 - 300 lb project OT, who was ranked outside the top 1,000 and hadn't seen game action.

And on top of that, "some believe" Minaya was the reason he transferred.

Yeah the tinilau thing threw me. He was a total raw project out of Australia IIRC.

But you know…

The Greentree All-American thing is mostly a myth.

People always get mad when the season goes sideways, but the good players usually play best in practice.

The three Greentree All-Americans in last year’s class were OJ Frederique, Elija Lofton and Jordan Lyle. They were also our best freshmen during the season.

In terms of the older guys, I talked a lot about Ward, Restrepo, Horton, Arroyo and Martinez and very little about the DBs (aside from Frederique). We saw how that played out.

Sometimes guys like Jaden Harris look good in limited contact and then freeze when you have to tackle in open space to the ground. But for the vast majority, the practices tell you who the players are.

This isn’t revisionist history. Those who listen to the daily podcast know this to be true.

Anyway, it’s still early. We will know more after spring ball.
