Offensive Line

Just can't worry where Samson fits in now. Either he'll wait for his opp next year or transfer. Best five will play.
But what concerns me is we got alot of "developmental" guys coming down the pike. No true "plug and play/Cici Mauigoa" type. In last years class or this years. (so far). That absolutely concerns me.

The best lineup appears to be…

Bell
Rivers
Carpenter
Cooper
Cici

Man that lineup was mauling Duke and opening huge lanes to run through.

Check out this pocket for Cam.

Rivers is a great guard. Think Bells size is too good to pass on at LT and he’s getting better every Rep. that’s by far the best 5

I don't believe Samson is a guard. I know they worked him in fall camp at guard but he doesn't strike me as the body type to be a guard, although he's close to Rivers was at the same age. We'll see. Regardless, he's not overtaking Cooper or (probably) McCoy next year so he's on the outside looking in.

Agree. By all accounts, he had a massive NIL deal to sign. There are two things that usually happen with highly touted NIL dudes that can't crack the rotation - they either transfer (most do) or their deal is renewed at a lower rate. I'm not sure what the case is with Samson but next spring is make or break for him. Ideally, he can take another year of development next year so that he's in line to be a starting tackle (we'll lose Bell and Francis) as a RS JR.

Would be good to see him get SOME PT maybe on some extra TE or goal line packages.
He was the 1st off the bench last year before his injury he just needs more time not every one is Francis. I just hope he doesn’t get discouraged. Just keep that head down and grind u have the best OL coahces here don’t take the easy way out and transfer

There’s not a controversy. Rivers missed several weeks and has been back for two games now. Coaches are trying to see who the best five are for the stretch run. Because there’s not much of a drop off, they don’t have to “make the call” just yet. Maybe they won’t at all. Good problem to have, isn’t it?
That’s why I said “controversy, if you can even call it that”

Not a huge deal. Just something I think is pretty clear who the best 5 is but they care too much about McCoy’s feelings and he’s just not very good right now.

He's not strong enough to be a guard. He's perfect for OT, just needs to keep working his craft. I said it when he was being recruited that playing in MA wasn't doing him any favors. The talent up here is absolutely abysmal relative to IMG (Cici) or So FL. I knew he would need that RS year. But NGL, I thought he'd start pushing for major time by now. ... This kid will be a starter, he has the talent. The question is will he be willing to wait until 2026 or go be a starter elsewhere?

I think projecting this group to next season, it could be the best OL of the Cristobal/Mirabal era.

LT-Bell
LG-McCoy
C-Rodriguez
RG-Cooper
RT-Mauigoa

Kinsler
SJ
Nino
Samson
Plazz
Buchanon

We also don't know what portal OL may want to jump at an opp to play for Mario, which could upgrade a position also. I would say this also factors in another year of development for Bell, McCoy, and Mauigoa which has taken another big step from his freshman year.

Before Mario, Rivers had a go at guard and was not good. Of course he was younger and maybe did not have the strength at that time, but Rivers was not good at guard early in his career. That stuck in people’s minds.

You & I remember this completely different. Rivers was good 1st year under Lashlee playing mostly gaurd but having to move at times. Hurt 2nd year.

Then Mario came & the switch in offensive philosophy made the entire oline worse by exposing some of the weaker players, which made Rivers look worse than he was.

He got alot of crap after that 1st season with Mario that people forgot he was a good true freshman & one of the best lineman we had in awhile.

Two straight years they have plucked a starter from the portal. And high caliber guys, not bums. Cohen and Bell. OL want to come play for Mirabel. They will get one more of this type in the portal.

Also, the kid from Bishop will play his freshman year. He is the next Cici type.

Will he jump Rodriguez at C?

(and Bell was a JUCO but I get your point. Mario wont throw the keys to the kingdom to Plazz and Minaya if they are not ready. He will hit the portal. Fair point)

I don't think he jumps Rod. But as we have seen this season, we need depth and the 5 guys that start game 1 probably do not stay healthy the entire year. So there are scenarios like Rod moving to G and Seuseu moving to C if that gives us the best 5.

And I totally spaced on bringing in Carpenter this year. I just do not think we need to worry about the OL. Mario and Mirabel will figure that out. Now CB, that is a different story.

This photo also shows no one is open. Our WRs have problem getting open against good dbs so Shannon has to find a way to scheme them open against teams with good defenses.
Dummy Feeling Dumb GIF

Rivers is trending to be a late round pick. I would throw big NIL$ at him. Financially speaking, late round OL are unlikely to get a 2nd NFL contract so it should be something for him to strongly consider esp if we sell him on playing his true position next year

You are right on the timing. I just remembered that he was not good one season at Guard and assumed that we pre-Mario. But you are absolutely correct as to the timeline.

In this era - portal bound.
exactly
this is why recruiting is so important
Oline is basically the only position we can have a all world 5 star bust and not blink an eye
DE is probly the only other spot like this
otherwise we need to keep stacking talent

This play literally ended up being an 8 yard pass to a WR that got separation, turned into a 20 yard gain after some YAC.

I'm trying to elevate this into a fight and you're not cooperating.

I hear what you're saying. The only thing I'm sort of pushing back on is this idea that the coaches care about McCoy's feelings as you're implying. OL coaching and assessment is so different than any other position group because it truly is like a symphony where all pieces need to be moving in sync in order for the unit (pause) to have success. My guess is that the coaches are trying to get more reps of these guys on film in order to assess for the stretch run. I just can't really see them caring about players' feelings much at all. Samson has feelings, no? That dude needs to have the splinters removed from his *** after all the time he's spent on the bench the last two years and he came in as a five star, yet the coaches recruited Bell right over him.

Now, would you please let this escalate into an argument? I'm sure I gave you something to push back on (pause).

I got absolutely killed for this when I brought it up another thread. @Bender i forgive you
it's almost as if players on the o-line can't develop with split reps

weird, so weird, maybe they should, you know, stop the nonsense and keep playing mccoy but wtf do i know
