OC Coley

2 weeks ago we were crucifying this guy. "I know he's a good recruiter but is it worth killing our offense to have him on?"

Now we look good against SSU and USF playing FIU level ball, and suddenly Coley is a genius and deserves a ton of credit.

He didn't deserve a lot of the blame for how the offense looked against U*** and he doesn't deserve any credit for blowing out SSU and USF. The season starts next week against GT and as far as I'm concerned, FSU is a pretty solid mid-term for him. VT is very good on D as well, I don't think they are dominant, but very good, and will be a huge test for the offense. I don't think anybody else on our schedule has the size or speed to present problems for us on D.

James Coley will prove to be an upgrade over Fisch, he already has imo.

He's running Fisch's playbook with some of his own wrinkles thrown in. The offense is basically in year #3 and all of the key players are a year older along with the O-line. Saying a guy who has taken over a playbook another guy designed is an upgrade is a stretch.

Everything I read, said he was keeping much of the same terminology to make the transition easier for the players. I saw nothing about keeping Fisch's playbook. I don't think he's running Fisch's playbook. If he was keeping Fisch's playbook, why would terminology be an issue?

Williams is a guy who will kill you if you give him time. Under pressure......not as good - but who is? I'm glad we have him. He made some throws yesterday that should quiet some of the criticism. Protect him, and we can win with him.

Here we go... Fisch designed playbooks for a living in the NFL. Golden brought him in to design a playbook for Golden. Yes, Coley kept a lot of the playbook and learned the terminology so you aren't asking the offense to learn new terminology and an entirely new playbook. Coley has added some wrinkles to the offense and will call the game the way he calls it but Golden has a playbook that was designed for Miami that will constantly be a work in progress.

Williams is a **** good QB. Kid threw 5 TD passes in the State Championship game for the win. The offense looked good with him under center. Makes quick decisions, has a quick release, anticipates WR's coming open, and hits them in stride.

Coley or Fisch, either one knows how to use a fullback inside the 10. Makes no sense.

Our goalline package (within 5 yards) needs some work IMO. Hurlie needs to work with Duke and the rest of them on how to take the ball into the endzone. Also, I think our personnel decisions need some work (perhaps Hagens needs some carries).

I agree he must work with Gus... But Duke has an incredible nose for the endzone.......

COley called an incredible game first time in a long time where I cant remember a play call that i didnt agree with

coley is a work in progress....dont like our redzone o.

But didnt like it much last yr also...as Fsch ran an nfl o...in the redzone with Fisch we threw the ball on 1st down like 80% of the time...which is nfl like. And if we didnt score their ..went to the run on 2nd...

i still dont like zone or tosses to the short side of the field...but i guess they think thats a set up play or explosive play waiting to happen...it hasnt hapened yet even in games againt ssu and usf.

Think we are seeing a different redzone offense primarily because they are experimenting when way ahead. If they can get Gus, Duke or Dallas to be that go to guy inside the 10 then that'll be the way they roll - hitting the ACC schedule, I expect we'll see more passing.

What I really liked yesterday with Coleys play calling approach we were throwing on first down and the offense actually had a rhythm to it.

Our OL pass blocks significantly better than they run block. They are what they are. This is a team who plays best when they set up the run with the pass. Lets play to our personnel strengths and throw the ball on early downs. Continue to put pressure on defenses vertically. College

Our skill guys on offense are what is going to differentiate this team against most others. We have 5 guys skill guys on offense who should play on Sundays.

That first ball Williams threw to Coley was a rope that hit him in stride. ******* impressive considering he came off the bench cold.

The Texans do the same thing inside the 5. i think it's a product of the zone blocking philosophy. You create cut back lanes for your RBs & having a lead FB might cluster things up??
We also don't have a power back (Gus should be, but ironically is probably the worst RB inside the 3 for us).

It seems like they've been trying to make a statement trying to punch the ball in the endzone when they get close. That does need work, but I think they'd get more creative if the game was on the line. Morris looked like he was hitting more guys underneath and letting them run. He looked better to me than he did against SSU.

Morris has a much better skill set then Williams, but our offense seems to run at a better pace with Williams. Not as much of the staring back at the sideline for a play

Seems like Williams is faster in reading, checking off and decisions. May be more accurate in short passing as well. Boy, if he had Morris' arm......

Much more creative. We used everyone. I think the OL isn't playing it's best, and that was his biggest enemy yesterday.

.

This - I keep saying this to my friends, etc over and over it seems like.

I think our OL is too blame for a lot of short yardage/inside the five difficulties. No push on several plays yesterday, RB hit behind the LOS.
