Observations after a week of practice

He is in the conversation. Mauigoa is the best NFL prospect and a monster. He’s probably the guy you take. But Lofton does everything at a high level. Those two are championship players.
It’s incredible to hear that about a guy who was lightly featured last year. Guessing he won’t be RB1 so it’ll be interesting to see how we utilize that talent. Good problem to have

Passing game is going to look very rough in the spring, we don't have one starting caliber QB available. Luke shows potential but I think he's still a couple of years away.

I can definitely see adding a WR and a LB in the portal. @DMoney Are any of the younger kids at LB showing anything? I know I should wait until they come back from spring break and put the pads on but I'm very interested/anxious to see if Adarius Hayes, Cam Pruitt have taken the next step or if Kellen Wiley is good enough to be a factor as a true freshman. It's a real shame about Bobby Washington being hurt this spring. He is an absolute freak and this new defense is perfect for him as it's much simpler than Guidry's scheme and very aggressive. Hope he heals up very soon.

Speaking of Corey Hetherman and his defense, I truly believe that the new scheme will be great for everyone for the exact reasons I mentioned above. The veterans could really benefit. Obviously a kid like Wes Bissainthe going into his final year has a great opportunity to really go out on a high note and deliver the type of season that fans have been expecting from him since he signed here. Chase Smith is someone who could possibly have a comeback player of the year type of season but I just don't know if he truly has his speed and explosiveness intact after dealing with injuries the past 3 years. Jaylin Alderman could be a very important depth piece at LB. Right now all we have are questions. The full pads portion of Spring practice may give us some answers.

Those two are championship players.
Is Lofton sticking at TE or are they gonna try and move him around?

If Blount, Lowe and McConathy (the Bigger DE's) can step up, I am guessing we don't portal a DE this Spring. They are all young so that would be rolling the dice if Mesi or Bain went down. I was expecting Bryant to step up. While adding weight, he is not big.
Bryant had a LB body but was too slow IMO, he's a bust IMO. Too small and slow for DE as well, may transfer eventually or be here awhile like a Chase Smith. He is basically a depth piece and younger guys will pass him on the roster. That was a miss by the staff, it happens all the time even in the NFL draft.

Great to hear these updates but it turns my stomach to think of how last season could have gone adding this Secondary help……

No one has proven anything yet in their careers. Bain and Meisoder are too inconsistent and injury prone. Not a knock on them but it’s reality. DT is a big concern. LB’s, as well.
Messidor isn’t inconsistent and he isn’t injury prone. He had 1 year where he was hurt that’s it. He has only played less than 10 games once. He has been consistent too. He has had at least 5 sacks in every season he played except the year he was hurt.

Bain got hurt last year and wasn’t 100%. That’s why his production fell but you definitely can’t say he is injury prone either.

We will be fine at DT

Every team has a bunch of unproven guys. Thats just how cfb goes. Time for a new crop of guys to step up.
