Nope. A few 8-9 wins seasons with a few great players - Hendricks, Mira, Otto, Foreman, Anderson p, etc. - but never even sniffed an NC.
Went to UM during the period 1963-66. Some things others might find interesting as I look back.
1. In that pre-Disney World time, Miami Beach was the #1 vacation destination for families in the USA. Even above Las Vegas. Our football schedule, playing as an Independent, was actually put together with the tourists in mind. Attractive matchups, with all games at night in the OB.
2, We had no Black players until 1968 (when Ray Bellamy became eligible as a Soph). The reason given by the UM Administration was we always wanted SEC teams to play us, and they were all segregated. So, we had no problem inviting northern teams with Black players to the
OB, but we fielded an all-White team. The Band of the Hour would routinely play "Dixie."
3. We had a lot more starters recruited from the greater Pittsburgh area (the WPIAL) than from South Florida. That definition of Greater Pittsburgh extending down into nearby WV, Western Maryland and eastern Ohio. That was due to our Andy Gustafson ties (he was our HC until 1964, and then AD). That recruiting territory usually resulted in a rock-ribbed defense.
4. The Dolphins were no competition. Didn't even start playing until 1966 and then struggled. UM was more popular for a time. By the early 70s, that changed big time.
