Now That the Dust has Settled……..

Would’ve been interesting to see what CMR could’ve done but remember who his DC was while he was with us.
Manny was a **** HC, I’d say all things considered the worst in last 50 years. As far as DC goes though, he was one of the best at UM in a long time. Don’t know if that’s sad or me giving credit lol

Facing reality is a cop out? The reality is the Miami football program has only been relevant in 19 of the 98 years it’s been in existence. Basing expectations on distant success is unrealistic at best.

As far as the money being spent, it wasn’t until Herbie embarrassed us on national TV that the university decided to invest more in the football program and was apparently only willing to make that investment with Mario as the HC 3 years ago.
Reality would be firing Mario and not spending any money. As long as that money is continuing to flow, it’s ridiculous to just accept these results.

It’s very simple. If you have the most expensive staff in the ACC and arguably the top NIL fund, you should win it. If you’re in the top 12-15 you should be in the playoff.
Again, where are you getting your information from? I'm not trying to bust balls I'm genuinely curious.

Worse in the last 50, with a 21-15 record vs the 22-16 record of Mario…as a first time head coach with much less resources…

YIKES

UGA fired Richt after he went 10-3 and then 9-3. They got tired of not winning big. Seems like it worked out ok.
and we're not Georgia. I'm not trying to make excuses, but the only schools you can legitimately compare Miami with are schools with a similar footprint because what we did decades ago is irrelevant.

Washington
USC
Boston College
SMU
Houston
Pittsburgh

etc.

But his buyout is insane which goes back to your money in versus results argument (which i mostly agree with). Firing him would reduce funds left for NIL, etc. If there was no buyout or of it was way smaller, that would be totally different.

Smart wasn’t making what he’s making now when they hired him.
That may be true. But UGA, they’re loaded. They didn’t just hire Kirby without evaluating him. They hired him and made sure he was afforded all the tools necessary (where you are right about money spent should equal results). In contrast, we don’t evaluate, we just throw money at problems, hoping they’ll get solved.

Nope. A few 8-9 wins seasons with a few great players - Hendricks, Mira, Otto, Foreman, Anderson p, etc. - but never even sniffed an NC.
Went to UM during the period 1963-66. Some things others might find interesting as I look back.

1. In that pre-Disney World time, Miami Beach was the #1 vacation destination for families in the USA. Even above Las Vegas. Our football schedule, playing as an Independent, was actually put together with the tourists in mind. Attractive matchups, with all games at night in the OB.

2, We had no Black players until 1968 (when Ray Bellamy became eligible as a Soph). The reason given by the UM Administration was we always wanted SEC teams to play us, and they were all segregated. So, we had no problem inviting northern teams with Black players to the
OB, but we fielded an all-White team. The Band of the Hour would routinely play "Dixie."

3. We had a lot more starters recruited from the greater Pittsburgh area (the WPIAL) than from South Florida. That definition of Greater Pittsburgh extending down into nearby WV, Western Maryland and eastern Ohio. That was due to our Andy Gustafson ties (he was our HC until 1964, and then AD). That recruiting territory usually resulted in a rock-ribbed defense.

4. The Dolphins were no competition. Didn't even start playing until 1966 and then struggled. UM was more popular for a time. By the early 70s, that changed big time.

Yeah, the fact that UM has been so unimpressive for its entire 21-year existence in the ACC (1 CCG appearance, 0 titles) is the direct result of a university/athletic administration yet to make a full-fledged commitment to true football success combined with the tepidness/cronyism of those with the power (i.e. $$$) to hold the decision-makers' feet to the fire.

In turn that milquetoast approach has been buoyed by the mind-numbing mediocrity of ACC football, which fostered the badly mistaken belief that "we're winning 7, 8. 9, even 10 games each season ... we're so close to being back."

That delusion arguably has been the worst thing for our program.

We probably needed a complete collapse to burn the thing to the ground instead of enough wins to justify the flawed hires from Coker on down to Cristobal.

I mean did anyone really believe we were Top 5 at mid-season when we gave up 117 points in successive games against VT, Cal and Louisville?
