Nike Opening Regional Results (Doing The Numbers)

Would have expected Wilder to be faster and quicker at 189 lbs.

First Last POS Grad ST School HT WT 40Y SH PB VJ RATING
James Houston IV LB 17 FL American Heritage 6-1 226 4.81 4.53 43.0 32.4 103.56
Waynmon Steed LB 17 FL Miami Central 5-11 221 4.74 4.33 40.0 30.6 102.36
Diego ***ot LB 17 FL Calvary Christian (Fort Lauderdale) 6-3 231 4.92 4.60 41.0 32.3 97.62
VanDarius Cowan LB 17 FL Palm Beach Gardens 6-4 217 4.77 4.26 35.5 29.3 91.47
Brandon James LB 17 FL Southridge 6-2 194 4.57 4.66 36.5 29.7 84.63
Deandre Wilder LB 17 FL Carol City 6-1 189 4.81 4.43 36.0 29.0 78.99
Tyler Dunning LB 17 FL St. Thomas Aquinas (FL) 6-0 239

Wilder is the smallest of the bunch, there are safeties bigger than him... I love his highlights but that 4.81 40 and 29 BJ is not very impressive for a 189 LB. He is Grace's size with Harris' speed.... Some of these number really surprised me. Cowan seems to have the best physical tools of the bunch at 6'4"...

Robert Hicks DL 18 FL B.T. Washington (FL) 6-0 220 5.18 4.37 40.0 29.2 87.27
I see why he is not a priority right now. He frame is too small for DE and he is too slow to be LB...

Very smart move by Scott to commit before putting up those numbers and scaring every school away.

Wonder why he didn't scratch it... there was nothing impressive about his performance. Came in as a 6'2, 185 athletic guy with great hands who has an estimated 40 time of a slow 4.7... he leaves as a skinny 6'0" 166 lb guy who runs a 4.99 with a 29 inch vert... I'm really curious to see how he performs this upcoming season, he needs a monster season to justify his 4 star rating and an offer from WRU.

Rodney Scott WR 17 FL Southridge 6-0 166 4.99 4.52 34.0 29.0 63.87

Would take Kemore over him at WR based on this...
Kemore Gamble TE 17 FL Southridge 6-4 216 4.09 37.0 33.9

4 inches taller, 50 lbs heavier, much quicker, jumps higher, stronger... no 40 time but I can't imagine it been much worse than 4.99...

Yeah, and that would have been the best out of two 40's. Kemore also looked good in 1-on-1's and his short area quickness is very impressive at 4.09.

Waynmon Steed LB 17 FL Miami Central 5-11 221 4.74 4.33 40.0 30.6 102.36

waynejr31 Serious question, how did Waynmon go from 6'1" 225 at the Army combines this year to 5'11" 221 at the opening? Did they measure him with his shoes on or include his hair? I don't get it since they are all supposed to be verified measurements... It always confused me when profiles of players vary so much from one site to another, I tried to get verified measurement from events and now even those vary from event to event.

I mean he measured in at 6'0 last year at the same event.

Here are Waynmon's numbers from the Nike Camp today.
6'0" 198
40 yard laser 4.73 (I had him at a 4.55 hand time)
20 yard shuttle 4.38
Power ball 34
Vertical 30.5

I have no idea, I guess he shrunk. My son has not measured in at 5'11" since his freshman year. If you click on the NCSA profile link on the student sports results link next to his name, it has a picture of him being measured and he is clearly well above the 6'0" mark. Army and Rivals both had him above 6'0" this year so I'm not sure what the heck happened there honestly. I think there may have been some confusion because of his hair. They probably took an inch off because they couldn't get an accurate measurement.

I believe you man, it just confuses the crap out me how they do these combines and measurement can vary so much. 18 year olds don't shrink over a couple of months... Typically profiles are over stated until the actual measurements come out but in his case his actual measurements were verified multiple times and then BAM he is under 6'0", he went from Jon Beason to Denzel Perryman overnight.

Here are the NFL Combine/Pro Day results for the LBs from LBU that made it to the league since 2004:

I was impressed by Steed. He looked like he was carrying some extra weight at Rivals (normal coming off a shoulder injury), so he could be even quicker and faster if he leans up.

Was also impressed by Donaldson, Henderson (6'1, 4.35 in high school!) and Carmoni Green.

Scott's 40 time is alarming.

Dam!! a Scott 5.0 40?? WTF?? So much for Wilders 10.8 100 i dont believe that at all running a 4.8 40

That is why it was a shock to me that he was a take for us, now everybody see why, just think if he puts on more weight, that time may be 5 flat. Was not trying to criticize the kid when he committed, just seen this coming. Slaton AND Donaldson or this class will be a fail mark my words.

This was taken the same day by the same people that sponsor the event!!!

And yes I know he has cleats on but the spikes dig into the rubber turf giving up any benefits that could have possibly been gained by wearing them, lol.

I still want Nick in this class....I hope the staff are still keeping in contact w/ him and he comes to the campus to reaffirm any doubts.

Something is not adding up. Scott is in ESPNJR 300 and GEO has him in the top 20 on the Broward/Dade 2017 player list. And everyone is saying he's not a take. What am i missing?

It's early in terms of ranking all these players on all of these sites. ESPN usually releases their final player rankings a month before signing day using all the available information they have collected at camps like this. I doubt Scott ends up a four star player or in the ESPN 300 by the time the final rankings are released.

laser
ok, so I'm thinking that Scott's time was off because the laser malfunctioned, same thing happened at the combine...laser clocked Hargreaves running a 4.9 but hand times had him around 4.5 and it happened to other players too. So mayber he really doesn't run 4.99

Has anyone here other than Geo seen him multiple times in person? Also can anyone explain why Bama and UF offered this kid? Maybe we need to see an entire game film against good competition? Or maybe he played the entire junior year with an injury? His soph tape looks completely different. Again, it must be a reason why Bama offered this kid. It's his quickness off the ball and high point catching ability in traffic. Imo

Just because Bama offered him doesn't mean it was commitable. I mean they offered Tyre Brady as well that doesn't mean they would ever let him be apart of their recruiting class.

The may end up similar but I think Steed is much bigger coming out of HS. Sean was more like 5'11, 190 in high school. I think Steed will be much thicker and stronger than Spence when it's all said and done. Now if he can read and react like Spence, then watch out!
