And lack of depth is how you end up with AJ Highsmith at Safety and Scott Patchan at TE. There is still plenty of room on the roster and there is always attrition. At least Bethel has speed. Worst case scenario he ends up on special teams.

Burns was special on the field and a top 100 player in the country. He actually played db extensively rather than playing limited time in his senior year at db

Probably lazy to just call him a reach.

Redwine is serviceable.. nothing more, nothing less. You won't beat Clemson with a roster full of that caliber player. Bethel's lack of offers dictate he's a reach. It's lazy to say he's not just bc we struck out on higher targets.

Huge huge huge difference between Bethel and Redwine.

Redwine is SLOW. He is a low ceiling player. He is physically limited. Knowles is the same. He is small and slow. Malik Young is small and quick, but doesn't have great speed. Higher ceiling kid, but still not a prototype cb. Jackson has great size, but not sure about that top end speed.

Bethel has all the tools to be a prototype NFL CB. There aren't many CB recruits that are 6-1 and run a 10.6 100m. He has a similar ceiling as Surtain and Campbell. Unlike them, he hasn't had the benefit of great HS level coaching and time to develop his craft. The kid needs to be coached up, and he may never get there. If he does he can be a star.

This is what folks don't seem to grasp. It's lazy to look at 3* kid with not a lot of offers and assume he is not good and a reach. OK, well why is he only a 3*, and why does he have average teams only as offer. The answer is he plays WR and not CB for Northwest because they had 2 other Division 1 CB's. He was the deep threat WR for them. These other squads didn't see him in camp play CB. This is where Miami has a huge advantage. Our coaches can see these Miami athletes like this firsthand, and see the potential. We might not be able to beat Saban and Smart right now for these 5* kids (still hope we can). However, we sure can beat them at finding kids like this. This kid has the potential to lock up any WR in CFB with his size and speed.

Except NOBODY was calling Redwine a "low ceiling player" at the time he was recruited.

At that time, it was all about "Oh Charlie Strong likes him, he must be a world beater" and "He's the kind of South Florida kid that goes to Louisville and balls out and beats our *** in the Russel Athletic Bowl" and whatnot.

Hindsight is 20/20, isn't it?

This Bethel kid is a 3-star for a reason. And it's not because he went unnoticed. He plays at the most heavily recruited/visited high school in America. Every college coach in the country has had many chances to evaluate Nigel Bethel, and everyone else has passed. Why is that?

No, we have room for another LB if we wanted...I like Bonitto too, staff has him as a backup plan just like they have Bethel. Peters = grades

Why doesn’t he have any good offers if he’s as good as you claim and that the only two possible results with him are he can’t learn CB or he’ll be an nfl star? Learning CB is easy. Playing great CB is a whole different thing.

There's nothing wrong with taking a flyer on 1 maybe 2 kids each class. He's 6 feet, 4.3 speed, long and from MNW. He's got the measurables, so he's worth trying to develop. As long as the class isn't filled with these type of guys I think it's worth a shot.

We need another CB and want Campbell and Surtain. “Taking a flyer” would be signing a guy like Bethel even if we get Campbell and Surtain, and that’s never going to happen.

One is great at playing football, the other runs a fast 100m. One was also much stronger and filled out than the other and still ran as fast if not faster. One belonged on the Miami Hurricanes, the other belongs at FIU

What I think is ironic is you calling him a " reach" , "not worthy of a ship", but then rip others for questioning the staff about things that are more obvious than taking this kid. So we should trust the staff or not question them unless you don't sign off?

The staff actually likes him a lot , he'd already be in this class if he'd jumped when he had his first chance.

So let's rehash, really good athlete, that the staff really likes as a project...from the words of Brock " trust the staff bro, they know better than you".

Please tell me Bethel wasn't the one getting burnt repeatedly by that receiver from Chandler. I know Wilson wasn't active, but I'm not sure if Bethel was playing on defense in this game.
