NFL: Seantrel Dominant in 1-on-1 but doesn't know Football!

But i am NOT a fan of Kehoe the coach. I have been underwhelmed with how his lines performed and with their fundamentals. I thought our Oline got MUCH better when Stoutland came in and changed things. How well respected was Stoutland? He went to Bama and then the NFL.

Stoutland was a great recruiter, but his lines were pretty bad. Miami was 98th, 90th and 95th in sack percentage from 2007-2009.

That said, you raise legitimate concerns in your post. I can't figure out Kehoe. Some people don't respect him and some people swear by him. Louisville was a disaster, but the OL has been very good in pass protection the past two years. Statistically better than Alabama. The power running game has been a struggle, though. Is it Kehoe, personnel, offensive coordinator? Probably a little bit of all three.

One thing Kehoe doesn't get enough credit for is his development of the bottom of the roster. Jeremy Lewis went from the scout team to an NFL training camp. Wheeler will get a shot in an NFL camp. Ben Jones was playing really good football before he went down. These are guys who Kehoe has developed. He's also put more guys in the NFL than all but a few college line coaches.

Pass protection is highly dependent on the QB and the OC. If you're measuring effectiveness based on sack %, IMO that's one way stats may paint a flawed picture.

I have read where others mention that they don't think our guys on the oline don't fit well with the type of blocking they are asked to do. Do you give any credence to that. Also I don't think Golden's Oline shuffle helps Kehoe (or the Line) look any better.

No doubt, but it's not like Morris was elevating the line with his pocket presence, at least not to that degree.

In this case the stats confirm what the eye test tells me: Kehoe's line pass-blocked much better than Stoutland's. The major caveat is that Stoutland recruited most of these beasts for Kehoe.

I'm willing to take a bet. Let me know if you're in.

Count me in as well. I'd be shocked if Flowers doesn't develop into a top-two round pick. He's too big, flexible and mean.

There are way too many examples of proven teachers failing, and stud players regressing, for it to be a coincidence.

We have an absolute joke nutrition program, a clown show S and C program, and an overwhelming emphasis placed on the coaches to monitor these kids grades/behavior.

Miami is now a school that fits football around academics. And you can say "well we just need a better coach" but no elite coach is coming here with the Shalala academic mandate.

It is Kehoe who has always shuffled his Oline players not AG. AG gives the offense free reign in the pro style scheme. Other than for discipline stoutland was a better oline coach than Kehoe. An UM needs stop with that outside zone stuff and do what we do best, not to mention help the oline out with some tackle over formations.

I feel Seantrel was also not fully coached up, what was he doing during the OL meetings?

I have heard both Al and Kehoe on Hurricane Hotline say its Al's deal. Although I might be confused about whether they were talking about playing a lot of backups or moving the 5 starters around to different positions on the line. But I have definitely heard Kehoe say he used to picking a set group and going with them.

I think the biggest thing that changed that sack % was the shift to more horizontal action with Morris. In other words, the play calling. I do agree they were better at pass pro, but they were also just more talented or experienced as well.

Didn't read all the posts before I posted. Couldn't agree more.

I said it once and i'll say it again.....i love Kehoe the person, the Cane, and the passion he has for this team. I enjoyed him in the 30 for 30 and know he bleeds orange and green.

Physically, our OLine should have dominated last year. Guys like Flowers, Feliciano, Linder and Henderson are all NFL players. There is absolutely NO REASON we should not have been able to run the ball down people's throats, picked up a majority of the 3rd and short plays, and kept our QB upright. Yet we continued to struggle once again.

Henderson will be in the NFL for a long time and flourish with proper coaching. Typical Kehoe work here with this player and the OL in general. At least Kehoe is consistent in that he always has units that underperform.

Duke Johnson was averaging 6.3 yards per carry for 920 yards.
Dallas Crawford was averaging 4.1 yards per carry for 558 yards, 12tds

That's pretty solid in terms of yards per carry for the running game. We were ranked 72nd in rushing yards per game. This ranking is where we need to examine the play calling and game plan of our OC. Long drives of running the ball tire out defenses by the second half. I can't think of one game where we play attrition football.

Yet...

"Seantrel Henderson to me is one of the biggest boom or bust guys in the draft. A year ago I watched him against the kid Bjoern Werner of FSU who went in the first round and he shut him out. You see him play at that level sometimes and a completely different and lower level other times. There's no consistency with this kid at all. From a talent perspective he's a first or second round pick. But I don't see him getting picked anywhere near there. I think he's probably a 4th round pick. It is a buyer beware."

High risk, high reward. It might come down to Seantrel's motivation because we all know he has the talent. It kind of reminds me of Bryant McKinnie in the pros because when Bryant was motivated (2013 playoffs for the Ravens), he was the best left tackle in the league.

So let's play the game. Sam shields didn't know how to watch film after one year of playing defense even tho he's been in the program for four years. Blame previous regime.

Henderson doesn't know formations after 3 years under current regime. Blame the player.

See the pattern.

Interesting.

The ****? Sam Shields didn't know how to watch film because he was bounced around positions - not necessarily his choice. Henderson doesn't know formations despite playing the same Tackle position for 4 years. Also, while he may be singing a different tune now because it's $ time, he's on record as someone who wasn't putting everything into his craft. And, by everything, let's not even get into the facts. That wouldn't be helpful to Seantrel.

This is nonsense.

Shields didn't bounce around. He finally switched his last year after years of trying to get him to convert. I honestly think the staff did a great job his last year. They didn't overload him and let him go out there and showcase his talent. If they would have I believe he would have been thinking to much and hesitant like our current defense.

And lets not act like Sam was putting in his all just like Seantrel. We all saw his last two years was when he finally got his act together. Stared on special teams his junior year and then did a good job for us at db is senior year.

But either way I just wanted to show the pattern of where blame is placed. I believe this situations are identical. Two players who didn't put in their all here. Difference is one cleaned his act up and played a new position is senior year.

I didn't write "bounce around" to mean anything other than he played his final position for merely one year at the end of his time in College. Shields should have been moved earlier, but we couldn't do that because of roster mismanagement of the WR position. At one point during his time here, we had Brian Monroe, our Punter, taking WR snaps. These are pretty important factual pieces to lay out before comparing the situations, I think.

Actually, Shields was asked to move to defensive back earlier than he ultimately did but resisted it.

I don't remember that. He spent a year in the doghouse at WR. The situation, with such limited WRs, was a mess. Maybe I erased that era from my memory. Thanks.

Yea I believe Sheilds was asked to move as far back as his sophomore year to convert but he didn't want to... By 08 he was on special teams and he was losing reps to the incoming freshman so he opted to move his senior where he played good for a first year corner... He actually won the Wake game for us... He always struggled with drops and I believe in 07 we brought in 4 wideouts(farqhson, hank, adderly, mckensie) and 08 we brought in 6 more wideouts... He was reluctant to convert at first... I recall he was in trouble but he wasn't so much in the dog house... Sheilds and Hill were quality corners but they only played 1 year...
