NFL: Seantrel Dominant in 1-on-1 but doesn't know Football!

I said it once and i'll say it again.....i love Kehoe the person, the Cane, and the passion he has for this team. I enjoyed him in the 30 for 30 and know he bleeds orange and green.

But i am NOT a fan of Kehoe the coach. I have been underwhelmed with how his lines performed and with their fundamentals. I thought our Oline got MUCH better when Stoutland came in and changed things. How well respected was Stoutland? He went to Bama and then the NFL.

Physically, our OLine should have dominated last year. Guys like Flowers, Feliciano, Linder and Henderson are all NFL players. There is absolutely NO REASON we should not have been able to run the ball down people's throats, picked up a majority of the 3rd and short plays, and kept our QB upright. Yet we continued to struggle once again.
This guy gets it.

The op fail to mention that the same scout who said those things about Seantrel, stated that someone would take a chance on him in the 2nd round. Not bad for a guy who dont know much about the o-line.

Our players are forced to spend more time making Donna look good in class than perfecting their craft. There is such an over emphasis on good behavior and grades. It's so painfully obvious that this program under three different coaching staffs is incapable is promoting an environment for player development.

Al Golden will get fired eventually, and we'll replace him with some other coach from a limited pool of guys who agree to the admins grades demands.

The guy did not start until like mid-season because he was in the dog house. Kehoe may not be the best but some things need to fall on kids.

I personally think he's weak . He got away with pure size before. Does anyone knows his strength numbers??

I can't remember his press numbers from this past season, but when they came out he would have been one of the strongest pure tackles I last year's combine.
Linder would have been the strongest guy at last year's combine.
DP would have been the strongest linebacker.

Our guys are definitely strong.
There's been a huge strength shift since Shannon.
Talent level has been the problem, particularly on defense up the middle on all three levels.
Not a problem anymore.
Our guys are talented, big, strong and yes, fast.

Put up or shut up time in 2014.

Projecting High school offensive lineman to the NFL is the most difficult (very high bust rate). In reference to Rivals.com, of the 29 5 star Offensive Lineman in their history, only 31% were drafted. That's the lowest draft rate of any position for 5 stars. Bringing in 4* and 5* offensive lineman shouldn't translate the same as bringing in 4* and 5* WRs.

I don't believe this is a coaching issue, but rather the effect of percentages. If you look at the roster of NFL teams, offensive lineman don't highly represent big time programs, but rather a varied group of small, medium, and large colleges. I would say that we have consistently had above average offensive lines, and the draft history and current status of our lineman is reflected by this. I also believe that we have been overrating the players that we have. Kehoe does a solid job and his experience should not be underestimated.

Solid post. To add, I think our OL will play in the NFL, but they weren't great fits for what they were asked to do a good amount of time last year.

Seantrel can't even tell basic formations, doesn't know Football. [Seantrel played one year under highly respected, future BAMA OL coach, and current Eagles OL coach Jeff Stoutland, and 3 yrs under current ("5-titles") & legendary UM OL coach Art Kehoe.] These, amongst others, were the shocking revelations of NFL staffer watching Seantrel at practice with top Seniors awaiting the draft and interviewing with him during that week. The current UM OL coach has been in Football for over thirty years, including professional stints and, of course, playing and coaching at UM for more years than any other homosapien. While Kacy Rogers says that his best Football is in front of him while being ridiculed by online fans, the question is the development of UM Football players. While Sam Shields only played CB for one year and didn't know formations nor how to watch film, what does this say about such ignorance from this UM OL player's development & preparation that has started games since his Freshman year?

dont blame the coaches for him. they said over and over he wasn't getting it. seantrel is lazy and a was not committed 100% to his team once during his 4 years.

I disagree. It's college football, you have to be able to get the most out of the talent recruited. I understand that there are less practices and players have to do their part, but teams like VAtech get the most out of their talent. Players come to Miami to underachieve more frequently than at other places, it has to stop in order for us to become elite.

Saban & his Bama crew of coaches have been known to squeeze everything out of his players while in college. Moreover, Sabin's been MAXimizing players' capabilities so much so that there isn't much ceiling left in the NFL. As for UM, how many under performing stud recruit UM players become NFL stalwarts or how many average UM Joe blow up in the NFL?

So let's play the game. Sam shields didn't know how to watch film after one year of playing defense even tho he's been in the program for four years. Blame previous regime.

Henderson doesn't know formations after 3 years under current regime. Blame the player.

See the pattern.

Let's blame the administration again, Duke said hello!!! You can't talk **** if you can't back it up! Duke talk more **** than Randall Hill did. Watch Tracy Howard play man. This kid just under performed here. I was one standing up for him last summer with all the stuff back home, but I thought this guy would be All-ACC type, yet he had us moving players all over the place because he was not reliable.

In all fairness, while this seems like it fits his persona, I've never been around a team above the high school level where kids that didn't know assignments played very much. At a certain point, you can't just go out there and wing it or it shows up...a lot. I'm not saying Seantrel is Peyton Manning but I think the kid had enough of a grasp. I don't recall too many straight blown assignments but if i'm wrong, feel free to remind me. It seems like it's been a year since the season ended

The ****? Sam Shields didn't know how to watch film because he was bounced around positions - not necessarily his choice. Henderson doesn't know formations despite playing the same Tackle position for 4 years. Also, while he may be singing a different tune now because it's $ time, he's on record as someone who wasn't putting everything into his craft. And, by everything, let's not even get into the facts. That wouldn't be helpful to Seantrel.

This is nonsense.

Seantrel is at the nexus of talent and lazy

And I still can't believe we brought Kehoe back - our line was supposed to be the strength this year and got dominated every time it mattered

some of you guys have no idea what you are talking about. you just post to post. We gave up like 13 sacks last year and most of them were morris holding the ball too long. Duke Johnson put up almost 100 yards on FSU in a half.

Exactly what position has not been a disappointment the last 10 years? I do think we have a weak staff for teaching. Our players do not seem to get better, I am not sure of the causes. It does seem to me that the only player who really lived up to expectations of greatness for years has been Duke and maybe Spence. DP was surprisingly good his first year, but we are not talking Ray good. I am disappointed in Oline and like any coach, Art should shoulder his share of blame. But really, without Duke, did we even have a RB last year? TEs? We have any? WRs-- Hurns was great-where was he for 3 years? Coley cannot be covered; lets hope he does not disappear. Defense, well, enough has been said over there.

We clearly need better coaching on the practice and playing fields. Our recruiting must get better. It is not bad now, but we need more top players at all the positions. How good was Barrow if Armstead and Smith are not there? Same for any of them. I don't care what sport, you always play down to your competition. If you want to improve you have to play against better players. Put KC and Chad on each other next year, all day every day and both will improve. Give KC some soft child to push around and he will regress.

Seantrel slumped through his 4 years, no doubt. Art's olines should have been better. But really, what the **** did they practice against? Was Seantrel having his head caved by Dan Stubbs? Did Art have to prepare for Jerome, RIP, and company? The buck stops at Al's door. He really can't fire any coach without firing Mark, so everyone is safe. He either improves their coaching skills to go with larger number of better players coming in this year, or we will suck very bad this year.

Shields played 3 yrs at WR and his Senior year at DB. I would not call that being bounced around.

2008 (JUNIOR): Played in all 13 games as either a wide receiver or the gunner on special teams ... Voted UM's Special Teams Player of the Year
2007 (SOPHOMORE): Started five of the 10 games he played in and caught 27 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns
2006 (FRESHMAN): Played in all 13 games - starting seven times - and caught at least one pass in every game ... Named honorable mention Freshman All-America by The Sporting News

During his final season with the Hurricanes, Shields switched positions from wide receiver to cornerback.[SUP][1][/SUP] During a game against Georgia Tech, he had six tackles.[SUP][1][/SUP] Continuing on in a game between Wake Forest, Shields posted a career high seven tackles as well as a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.[SUP][1][/SUP] He received the Nich Chickillo most improved player award at Miami's award banquet.[SUP][1][/SUP]

Shields didn't bounce around. He finally switched his last year after years of trying to get him to convert. I honestly think the staff did a great job his last year. They didn't overload him and let him go out there and showcase his talent. If they would have I believe he would have been thinking to much and hesitant like our current defense.

And lets not act like Sam was putting in his all just like Seantrel. We all saw his last two years was when he finally got his act together. Stared on special teams his junior year and then did a good job for us at db is senior year.

But either way I just wanted to show the pattern of where blame is placed. I believe this situations are identical. Two players who didn't put in their all here. Difference is one cleaned his act up and played a new position is senior year.
