Do you think it's possible that a couple of those additions could be made unnecessary by player development? Thinking of one of the 3 Edges we signed last year and JoJo at WR.

They'd obviously have to make leaps in getting bigger and stronger, but was hoping to learn whether you think it's unrealistic to expect a Lightfoot/JoJo to make such a leap this off-season.

With a much tougher schedule I don’t believe Manny is wrong however; he’s always got to gloat about it for someone supposedly writes about the team

We need at minimum:

A speed rusher (hoping one or two of the pups emerges, but you can never turn away a proven guy and we have none on the roster right now)

A topline receiver (can’t bank on Trader going from #5 to #1 in one off season, Daniels feels like a deep threat)

A veteran slot specialist receiver (even if it’s not someone elite like Rivers we at least need competition in this room, also we’re low on #s…if we want to win big we can’t rely on Toney or Carr going from completely unproven to Mr Reliable)

Starting Safety - This might just be Lucas

Linebacker - A productive guy to compete with Aguirre, but I actually would not move on this until spring

Defensive Tackle - need a wide body here
 
Have to be elite on defense-

Just look at ND and Ohio State, even Texas -

I don’t expect to be elite but, much better than this year-

We won’t be elite until we have an elite DT-

Something we haven’t had since Vince Wilfork-20+ years ago-

We weren’t elite on offense until we got Cam-Thst took 20+ years.

yep, need to develop and play the big recruits like the big boys

Blount, Lightfoot, Rudolph, and pickett at DE

i like the top 6 DT's, but probably could use a rotational one there
like the 3rd team DT in Horton and Jones, but would hate to rely on Jones this year to get big minutes

Keep in mind as well we do not need to be an any win team. Only need to win the ACC to get in. Clemson, SMU and Louisville will once again be the teams who we truly need to be better than.
