New players added to roster

1- Thanks for not re-quoting all that!

2- Do you realize that you are actually trying to HAMSTRING the football program, by PREVENTING them from taking fliers on projects kids like OUR COMPETITION can? You are literally asking us to play with less scholarships, unless every kid we take gets signed off on by YOU, lol. I gave an ample explanation on why taking these last minute kids is important. FYI not mentioned- you also need a full roster just to execute your practices and to field a scout team- especially in Spring after you lose a class and the new recruits haven't arrived.

Let's keep whittling this down...I'll just disregard 3-6 since it's more red-herring filled nonsense.

Now that we've established a more cordial tone in-between us and finished blustering, let's concentrate on what we're really discussing here. That is my swollen ***** over having Golden take kids like Joe Brown who have no redeeming qualities (there are 6-8 on the roster currently..but I will not introduce those as that will impact the crux of our discussion).

You say restricting Golden from taking projects would hamstring the program. I agree, that would impact the quality of kids you need at the bottom of the roster that are essentially your hard-working kids.

My problem IS THE QUALITY OF THE KIDS that Golden is bringing in.

So to recap, we both agree that you need to take flyers on kids that fill-out the bottom of the roster. Either to be practice squad dummies or to develop over a three-year period into something more.

Where we disagree is the quality and types of kids Golden is taking a flyer on. You seem to think that the quality does not matter, as long as they come here. I say it does matter because it costs the school MONEY to attempt to develop these types of kids that have no discernible talent.

Do you think Golden could do a better job and take more high-quality flyers?

Good to see a man of peace such as you, Ghandi, taking the high road. I think you would have been better served from the beginning making your argument a football argument and not a discourse on financial impact. You don't like some of Al's reaches, and plenty of people share that opinion. That's as far as it needed to go though. Once you turned it from your opinion that Al is littering the roster with trash into Al shouldn't reach because it is wasting money for UM, you lost a bunch of people.

Well; here's how Joe Brown tested out. It looks like he'll start at OL.

Joe Brown's results: 5.78-second average 40-yard dash (5.74 best 40 time in three tries), 5.15 20-yard shuttle, nine reps of 225, 315 squat, 232 power clean, 275 bench press, 22.5 vertical

This guy is 6'5 and 300+ lbs at least.

9-reps of 225lbs.
22" vertical
6-second 40
300lb squat

Like I said; this kid does not belong here.

Holy *****, those weight room numbers take "project" to an entirely different level.

You realize that applying this logic means we should just cut Kaaya right?

Not even close. It's laughable you used the term logic in an utterly illogical comparison.

A 300#+ defensive tackle with those strength numbers is a monumental project, as strength and explosion are critical for DTs.

By contrast, the attributes for a pro-style QB are largely unrelated to weight room strength. You want a good decision-maker, first and foremost. And a strong arm to get the ball in tight windows. And plenty of QBs have strong arms, notwithstanding low 225 reps.

Case in point, Tom Brady is horrible in the weight room, but is a top two QB. I guarantee there are no DTs on the NE Patriots (or in the NFL for that matter) with his weight room numbers.

The IQ of this board is going downhill fast.

I'll start a new response since quoting that red-herring filled post would just take too long.

Just because you're budgeted for 80+ scholarships does not mean it's ok to mismanage the allocation. 79-84 may not be important to you as a fan, but to an administration that is cost conscious it matters.

The rest of your "my feather boa to tight around neck" post is just pure garbage. Political crap and insults aside, I'm actually pretty liberal in some of my views in life.

If you believe that all of the things these kids get on scholarship do not cost the university money is...well stupid.

1- Thanks for not re-quoting all that!

3- "my feather boa to tight around neck" I don't even know what that means but I guess you are trying to lower the discourse here and drag me down to your level. Sorry.

4- No one made ANY aspirations about your politics. I said you took a play out of Cheney's playbook. That has nothing to do with politics. If my beer league softball team plays small ball, it doesn't make me any less of a Yankees fan. Let me know if you understand this.

5- "If you believe that all of the things these kids get on scholarship do not cost the university money is...well stupid." That's the stupidest ****ing thing you've written yet, Cheney. Again, putting words in people's mouths and moving the goalposts to suit your own argument to try to make your nonsense seem less crazy.

6- Thanks coach.

Pretty sure his point is we take brown with one offer Utep and pass up on http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/128221/edgar-cerenord ???? Way to go coach AG keep stacking up on them Gems. How many of his Gems have panned out so far?

I would agree that our classes haven't been as deep with talent as we would have liked, and I'd bet a years salary that Al Golden would agree. That's what happens when you recruit with the death penalty (yeah, every school used that on the trail) and more hanging around your neck.

The shackles are (almost all the way) off, and the recruiting has picked up. Coincidence? I don't think so.
