So you want us to press more...and blitz more...WITH A FIFTH OF THE TALENT THAT YOU SEE IN THAT VIDEO?
Thanks for making my point for me.
Could it really be any worse? At least we would be trying something different. Who knows, if we pressed and blitzed someone might accidentally make a play. God knows that no one is in the current scheme.
You have Cancer
I'm the doctor that tells you that I have a shot that can temporarily relieve you of your pain, but will compromise your long term health, to the point that you won't be half of what you were, and you eventually will die from the disease.
However, you also have the option of chemotherapy. You will feel the worst you have ever felt in your life. You are going to feel like death is a better option, but if successful, your long-term prognosis is tremendous and a full recovery to what you were before you got sick.
What are you choosing?
I'm thinking my first question would be what is the "if successful" ballpark percentage...If we think the odds are in our favor then we stay the course obviously. But do we like the odds? Are we being Realistic? I think a lot of what youve said carries weight, but the thing that scares me is the philosophy. I have NEVER been a fan of coaches who think that their system trumps the actual cards in their hand. Initially, Golden made a great impression on me because he seemed to understand that you have to adjust with your talent and that this is SFLA and we have athletes down here with Unique skill sets compared to the rest of the country. I'm a firm believer in the "Players make Plays" train of thought and I'm starting to think that Al is trying to force a defensive philosophy on guys that are better suited in a different scheme. And I understand he has a system he likes, but this is the U and furthermore SFLA and he needs to understand the athletic history and foundation here. We breed a Certain type of athlete that has common, definable strong suits on average. Who was the first team in the country to play with LB's that ran like safeties and so on? This was not scheme, our coaches simply adapted to the local talent. We breed speedy athletes, Golden and Ono need to be the ones making adjustments, not the other way around. I'm uneasy because I'm starting to think that the two of them (Golden and Ono) are forcing a system simply because they think they are Right. What worked at Temple won't necessarily work here. The best coaches and leaders in the world are those that can set aside their ego and recognize the need to ADAPT. Create a new hybrid, LIKE WE HAVE ALWAYS DONE.
Lastly, do you REally think that Purdue is that much better on D than us? To give up less than half the points we did? Seriously? **** speculation, this is the type of thing that scares me. We're talking about ****ing Purdue here.
