New depth chart (Finnie 3rd string)

Doesn't matter who the CB are if you're telling them to play 25 yards off the opponents WR

THIS.

If we are just dropping back and waiting for them to make a mistake every single series, what's the point? It's not like we still dont get torched deep anyway. Might as well bring the house. **** say what you want about my opinion, but Va Tech has been doing this for years, even this year where their secondary isnt as good as it usually is.

Tell me how much press and blitzing you see in this video

I'm not watching that entire video but 1 minute in and I already saw two blitzes.

It's not really about how often you blitz but if you are good at it. We suck at blitzing and have for a very, very long time.

bingo. LMAO at Finnies demotion. Not his fault he can't play to his strengths when he is asked to play 20 yards off the wr. Finnie is a physical kid who likes to mix it up with wr and stick his nose in on run support.

The only demotions we should see start with the whole defensive coaching staff.

Darius "The butt plug" Smith should never play another down here.

I think this is the start of his phase out. Golden said before the season started that Darius needed to take the next step "he can't just be a guy who's hard to block". He never took that next step, so you might as well let the young pups get the experience.

Jerzey, you missed what I was saying. I'm meant since we do NOT have the talent we can't just run a vanilla D. You must blitz, blitz often but do it creatively. But just dropping back and hoping for a mistake is just delaying the inevitable. Like others have said in other threads, you will get torched either way, so you might as well gamble, and gamble often.

To be fair we did play NC State's WRs up close and every single one of our CBs gave up a deep pass LOL Some of you don't understand how bad we are right now. **** DL, average LBs and a bad secondary. Our best LB is a RS Freshman. Our best DB is a true freshman. When is the last time we said that about Miami? Add in the worst DL in the history of the program and how could anybody expect to be anything more than what we are on D?

This. No wonder T. Howard got into it with D'Onofrio a few weeks ago. Howard is a press man corner and he's got him play 15 yards off the ball. lol.

WTF is a "press man corner?"

You mean there are some corners that only play man coverage, every time they're on the field? Well Christ, that makes the offensive coordinator's job easy!

FYI... the ONLY reason Tracy Howard was an elite 5 star cornerback out of HS is because of his brain. He's not that fast, and his size and strength are good but not elite. It's all between his ears.

Howard CAN excel in the zone, he just has to use his best asset and LEARN the **** scheme.

"He's a press man corner" GTFOH.... that's just dumb.

HOW IS DAVON JOHNSON NOT STARTING???

Dude was the ONLY reciever who has consistently made plays for us in almost every game. Dude was the only reciever who got off the bus vs ND

Exactly!! Davon Johnson was the only guy who looked ready for primetime last Saturday.

Not surprisingly he's a SR. Just goes to show the importance have SR and veteran players.
Dorsett for the skill he has, wasn't ready mentally. Hopefully his failures is a learning opportunity for him and the rest of the young squad.

Agree, no more excuses that are CB's are slow like last year, they're fast enough to play bump and run. **** this Zone **** already. We can not play zone.

This. Plus, who the **** needs to throw the ball on us anyway?

I was convinced D'onofrio would load the box against ND and sell out on the run. Make ND's QBs, who are not very good at passing by the way, beat us in the air.

I was wrong.

I would much rather get beat by a long pass than just gashed up the middle for 10-20 yds a play. At least if you make them throw it, they still have to execute even if the receivers are wide open. A lot more can go wrong on a pass play.

I just wanted to see him try something different. Anything. Cuz what we've been doing the first 5 games ain't working.

So you want us to press more...and blitz more...WITH A FIFTH OF THE TALENT THAT YOU SEE IN THAT VIDEO?

Thanks for making my point for me.

Could it really be any worse? At least we would be trying something different. Who knows, if we pressed and blitzed someone might accidentally make a play. God knows that no one is in the current scheme.
