New Artie Burns highlights

I'm not really seeing any CB cover skills in that video or his video from last year...maybe he can do it, and if someone has video with that footage please post. But being like 6'1 190 OMG Corner! is pretty Randy-esque thinking.

There's nothing in that video that shows corner skills, but I've seen him in person and he has every single physical attribute you'd need in a corner. Now, I've actually never seen him play zone, so that's a mental/instinct aspect I cannot vouch for...

Don't know how much faith I have at CB with McGee leaving. Finnie and Howard need to make some huge strides, and even Gunter still has a ways to go. Let's see how this staff develops talent before we crown these guys.

How much did you have going into this season? One could argue CB is the most improved spot on the defense.

If these coaches can get McGee playing aggressive, solid ball, I'm not worried about CB anymore. Not worried about the back 7 at all, as long as it's healthy. Worried about DL? Yes.

I trust your judgment, but what concerns me again is this focus on physical attributes as opposed to football skills. I haven't seen the guy live so i don't have firsthand knowledge, but I see a guy on tape who looks like a natural safety and excels at making breaks and hitting as he sees plays develop in front of him.

I think people are so distracted with salivating at the numbers and possibility that a guy with that size COULD play corner that we lose focus on what the guy naturally is and what he is good at. Deon Bush last year was another example though to be fair in camps and 7 on 7 he showed elite press man cover skills. Shannon was obsessed with this line of thinking to the point that he recruited stiffs with size like Randy Phillips and Kacy Rodgers hoping he could turn them into corners as opposed to recruiting natural corners like Hosley/Cody Riggs etc.

The focus on "big corners" baffles me. I like corners who are corners. If they are big thats great. But I would rather have a corner who is small than a big guy who we can pretend is a corner. Not saying Burns is that guy, but that line of thinking has gotten us in trouble over the years. Don't stuff square pegs into round holes. Ray Ray was another example of this albeit at another position. We see a big guy and think we can turn him into a safety instead of just letting the guy play linebacker.

just go check the current GURU on defensive backs roster...Nick Saban and tell me what he looks for.

There is a premium on those type of guys...which is why saban Scours the country..but he is lucky that he can stay in the south east an find these uber guys....

Its not just a focus on physical attributes...but u have to see PRODUCTION....

Artie has that....add to it dude has played on the offensive side of the ball this yr and has been productive...on special teams hes blocked an took back kicks....

Add to it he states hes more comfortable at cb.....Theres certain guys that are like this witht he size an physical attributes to play cb....

Deion Bush is a bit diff case....i saw cb in him..because of his PRESS skills..and the fact he didnt look comfortable running the lane at safety and coming up......GOT**** did he fool me...as dude is lightning to the ball..and in hs we didnt see it all to much..the COLUMBUS guys on this site can attest to that.

I say bring in Artie at CB first......Put him behind Gunter and let him do work.....

I actually think he has a higher ceiling at corner than at safety, in the big games he has mostly played corner (except for homestead). But he looked real good at corner. I was surprised how natural he looked. They play mostly man but with his abilty to play safety I dont think he would have any problem to play zone at all. A great athlete and from watching him I thought he was a lock to play corner but the highlight tape showed some great closing ability. though some of those plays like the one jumping the route near the endzone is also from corner.

DCH I dont get to all NW games, but he has played numerous games at corner and looked good

There is a premium on those guys because they are very rare. I'm not saying I don't want a big corner. I'm just saying I don't want to put a guy at corner who is a better fit elsewhere because hes big.

No lie he has all the tools, but when I seen him play a whole game he was making a lot of mistakes. Maybe thats coaching, but he's a good athlete I wouldnt mind taking.
