Nebraska Game

Nebraska has an outstanding RB...Ameer Abdullah, but their QB isn't that great. The QB, Armstrong, played extensively after Taylor Martinez got hurt. He threw 8 TDs to 9 INTs. He is a threat to run the ball, but he's no Cam Newton. Nebreska's d lost a lot in their dline. Bo Pelini plays a two gap system, where he needs solids DTs...but they don't have it.

This a game where Miami has to stack the box and force Armstrong to beat us with his arm. Our offense should be able to run the ball and our athletic WRs should find ways to get open....QB just has to deliver.

sooooo this is a repeat of the UF game?

uf had wayyy more talent on d.

Their offense probably will be ran beter...and they'll be content with just running the ball. We need to gang tackle in that one....
They do have a beastly de though...if he is matched up with Flowers...no worries...they move him around he could give Gadbois some trouble.

i think us running th eball could give them trouble if coley sticks to it...Nebraska isnt that athletic.

QB: Meh. Armstrong is an average to below average QB at best.
RB: Nebraska is very deep here. Abdullah is one of the best RBs in the country. Cross is no slouch either. Newby has some speed as well.
WR: Kenny Bell returns. Nebraska is also pretty talented at this position.
TE: Nebraska doesn't use TEs much in their offense. Cethan Carter is a downfield threat but Armstrong seemed to never have been able to connect with him.
OL: Nebraska losses quite a few starters here. But due to the injuries last year they have some experience. They should be a decent unit.
DL: Nebraska is very talented at the top. Randy Gregory is an absolute beast. Nebraska has some good DTs as well. Pretty thin at DE so if anything happens to Gregory or McMullen Nebraska could be in trouble.
LB: Return plenty of starters. Pretty decent unit.
DB: Nebraska replaces Baptiste at CB. Very athletic. Corey Cooper lays the wood.
ST: Nebraska's kickers looked AWFUL in the spring game. And last year the punt return unit was downright atrocious. Good news is we have a pretty darn good kicker coming in from Texas.

I would disagree entirely. Nebraska will have athletes all over the field on defense. And I wouldn't be so sure about the Flowers vs Gregory match up.

I have 10000% faith in Flowers vs literally 99.9999% of anyone in the NCAA right now

Guys proved it since his Freshman yr

LONG gone are the days where teams from the midwest no longer have the speed to keep up with Miami.

Heck, last year WE were one of the slower teams in big time college football, at least on defense.

Should be a good matchup then.

I had some thoughts about NEB in another thread.

Clearly that RB Abdullah is a beast. I think he will clearly be the key to beating NEB. Last year that OL was a pretty good unit. Spencer Long, Andy Rodriguez, Brent Qvale and Jeremiah Sirles had 113 starts between them. It will be interesting to see how these guys are replaced.

The secondary took some hits, Stan Jean-Baptiste (2nd-Team All Big Ten), Ciante Evans (First-Team All-Big Ten), and Drew Green (CB/S) are gone.

It will be a very tough road game for our team. Must stop the run.

Spencer Long was injured early in the season. Also, Ciante was an average player and Andrew Green was okay at best. Nebraska's secondary this year will be MUCH, much more athletic compared to a year ago. And FWIW, Michigan State couldn't stop the run even with all of the injuries we had to our offensive line. Stack the box and force Armstrong to make some throws would be your best bet.

Anyone have any predictions for the game? I say 38-31 Huskers.

I predict you are asking for trouble and that it is too early to tell.

Just here to talk football. And it is indeed very early and impossible to tell.

Your posts have been solid. I was more talking about some of the responses you may get rather than your post. Lots will depend on health and our DL and QB development.

Yup. And frankly I am disgusted hearing people blame this on our coaching staff for adding weight. Most of these dudes were never fast or explosive to begin with. Adding weight is about the only way to make some of them serviceable.

We just added a major influx of speed on defense. I mean, bigtime. Unfortunately this year won't show just how much but guys like Quan and McCord, Kirby, Carter.....their experience seems to be catching up with their gifts so we should see a big improvement.

If there are any Canes fans not making the trip, would be interested in your tickets so we can sit with other Canes fans.

I have found tickets but would be in the middle of NU fans.

Welcome to the board - we're a pretty civil lot for the most part, but there's an Ignore Button for your convenience. Also, your Rep can be used as a floatation device. Looking forward to Sept. 20 - should be a great one!
