My opinion

The guys who are labeled JAGS, are guys given offers to at camp by Golden...I'm all for rewarding effort but when half of your recruiting class has offers from Temple, Marshall, and Toledo what type of play you are u expected to get out of them? Same with the guys labeled under development. Those guys labeled as studs were coveted by many BCS programs, so no understanding needed on why their studs. Some of The no longer at Miami guys were bad asses, the guys you would see JJ, Butch, etc recruit and turn into all-americans, but to Golden they weren't following the Golden Road of being good guys...in Golden defense, one thing i can say about this 2014 class is there are straight studs, not as many camp offer guys as his last 2 recruiting cycles. But if it's not a change in offensive and defensive philosophy they will all suffer the same fate here as those mentioned above
Exactly. The 2012 was his first class and I think it took him a bit to change his mentality because he was just offering and taking any guy who performed well at his camps. The concerning thing is most if not all of his evaluations look bad as of now.

Hoilett, Hope, Davis, O'Donell, Carter, Jones, etc were guys that weren't being recruited by notable teams. At the end of the day, stars are a good indicator of talent but to me offers are bigger. Who wants the guy's you're bringing in?

non of those kids would be taken this year.

Golden gets a pass his first class.

The last two classes (and the incoming) are what he should be tried on.

Its scheme. Hasn't worked for 3 years. Will never work. Need to quit this bend but don't break crap.

Enough talent to hold VT under 20 points on this defense already.....

the main JAG we have on that side of the ball is D'onofrio.

Honest question...

What's the jag vs. baller ratio of this defense compared to the 2010 defense? (the unit that was amongst the top in TFL's, sacks and pass defense)

It's not just one thing between players, coaching and execution. We may have too many JAGs, but I've watched every single snap of both FSU and VTech, and I watched teams execute whatever it is they had prepared with guys they'd easily trade to us for our guys.

The worst part of yesterday was that all the fears and concerns going into the game were simply realized.

his first year we didnt get blown out by anyone, we were in every game. lost most by a td. this year we only lost 2 games and our defense has to be worn down considering stephen morris cant keep the off on the field and when he actually does something right its a quick score.

The philosophies on both sides of the ball have our players looking like Jags.

That's it. You can't just lump everyone into the JAG category. We have plenty of busts and bums, but we are making most of those guys look like bums by what we're doing with them. No way they're all as bad as they look.

This defense has so many JAGs that its comical. I dont care what scheme we play, we have horrible talent on D.

Chick - Average - Should be moved inside
Shayon - JAG - Couldnt cover my grandma on a pass route
Kirby - JAG - Slow as molasses and cant tackle
Cornileus - JAG -
Pierre - JAG - No push up front
Robinson - JAG - No Push up front
Highsmith - WOAT - has dirty photos on doritos
Rogers - JAG-

Chick - he would be playing inside if we were running a 4-3 one-gap scheme.
Shayon - then why does our DC ask him to cover?
Pierre - why are we asking him to 2-gap? He's a prototype 4-3 3-technique
Robinson - see Pierre
Highsmith - why is he on the field then?
Rogers - see Highsmith

Wildcat nailed it. We are trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. I honestly feel bad for some of these guys because they aren't being utilized properly.

Jesus guys we have heard this same song over and over. When three different staffs have the same exact issues it's time to look beyond just "well these players stink". Yes many of them are below Miami level. But Anthony Chickillo was a beast in high school, had NOT filled out his frame, and is a smart high motor motivated kid. Those type of kids shouldn't be turning into JAGs!

Every coach for the last ten years has recruit top classes that all seem to underwhelm. At what point do we acknowledge that our program lacks the resources to develop these kids properly?? Or cares so much about their grades and behavior that none are left over for development?

Our 2012 class was a top class because of numbers (33 players) and was very top heavy. If you look, most of our highly rated guys are performing well. What is hurting us is the bottom group. If guys like Hoilett (DE), Jones (WR), Dillard (RB), Blue (LB), Ivery (DT), and Terry (LB) were contributors we'd be in very good shape.

LOL cant even just accept that D'onofrio is WOAT w/o trying to spread out the blame towards other ppl.

James Coley has way more excuses for why his offense isnt averaging 50 a game, one of the reasons is D'onofrio.

Agree 100%. Don't forget, those studs(goons) who are no longer here would have made a big impact (aside from the scheme). So Al has recruited those guys that people are wanting which are not "nice" guys. Problem is, with the NCAA **** going on, we had to do any thing and everything to be an exemplary program. That meant letting some of those guys go...

It worked, and we didn't get hammered. That cloud was really bad and without a doubt effected Al's ability to recruit.

Fire Dorito!

Very true as well. Take McCord for example, he's a dynamic talent that could be a nightmare for offenses with his speed and athleticism. Yet he's barely on the field and when he does play the other team knows why he's on the field.

I see guys much smaller and a lot less athletic playing every down for teams. How much bigger and stronger was Jarvis Jones when he was at UGA? Anthony Barr?

This is why I say Miami is only great when the talent level is overflowing we never out coach anyone. Hence have to eliminate JAGS right now.

We will forever be blaming players on defense. I feel like we've been doing it for 10 years.

Chickillo was a highly recruited DE out of HS. No way guys like him are jags in a good defensive system.

Most of you all complaining about "JAGS" dont even know football..... a lot of these players would play better w/ a better coach simple as that and have talent.

You are clueless if you think that the 1st problem w/ this team is talent before Coach D'onofrio.

Golden needed to knock it dead with the last two recruiting classes and he failed. Too many jags and too many character issues. You can attribute the lack of difference makers to the NCAA ordeal, but there is no excuse for swinging and missing as much as this staff did. This is an execution problem with evaluations, both from a talent and character standpoint.

Golden is a great recruiter and sells the Miami value proposition exceptionally well, but unfortunately if you are selling the wrong kids you are up the creek from the get go.
