I'm not sold on him as a recruiter. He got Bain but Golden got a few good players too. He can't even replace Mannys 3 stars. He recruits for rankings, not for ballers.

That's called being a positive mope. I've moped in the most likely way I think I can be proven wrong. But Mario can fail at anything so who knows...
I'm sold on the ability to bring in highly-rated recruits, especially at the buzzer. He will scratch and claw and make you tell him no, and even then he won't stop.

I am not sold on the evaluator in him. He wasn't top tier in that regard at Oregon, and it's too early to judge here...but the 2022 recruiting class was a disaster. Granted, he didn't have much time to put that together....but even the portal classes in 2022 and 2023 have been highly disappointing.

2024 cannot be the same.

There has definitely been a few questionable evals. Each of his first two classes had a very highly rated defensive lineman who was a complete bust. Acheampong(sp?) got hurt, never played and entered the portal. Cyruss Moss never saw the field in two seasons and is out too. Add another very highly rated player in Jaleel Skinner who couldn't get on the field despite having almost no competition at tight end. I mean, if Skinner's lack of blocking ability lost him his job, why did they recruit him in the first place? Certainly he wasn't a great blocker in high school who forgot how to block in college. I don't mind taking flyers on occasional project-type players but these guys, specifically Moss and Skinner were jewels of their class.

But is that on Lane or Miami? Miami.

And thats why some mope about some things more than
I understand where you’re coming from. I like Lane too. I think he could’ve done well at UM, especially if he had support and the desire/work ethic to build the program. But Mario has strengths too, and they line up well against the long-term issues we’ve had as a program. We’ll see where it ends up. In the meantime moping doesn’t change anything—it just makes us mopes.

You are not wrong - where I tend to be an *** about things is when people will just be imbalanced about certain things... Example: Ole Miss was in a worse state of affairs than Miami when Lane took over. He's won 10+ games twice in 4 years. That is BUILDING... Miami not offering support to anyone other than Mario is a problem. It is like Manny getting the job in the middle of the night, but with a fraction of the resources... Either way, it is a **** way to operate toward success.

Manny left a roster with almost no players who were both experienced and talented (along with a epically bad recruiting class). Couch is the only Senior that contributed this year that wasn’t a Cristobal portal acquisition. Cristobal has had mixed results in the portal, but the we need experience and depth and you can’t get that solely from the portal.

Yeah the bottom of that class looks better than the top

I will just say, not absolving Mario in the slightest, but his methodical approach to everything it makes sense why a sense of urgency to save that class came up short

So I don’t just erase it but also that wasn’t really how he has been successful

Just my two cents though

Compelling rebuttal.
The narrative that this roster was so empty is getting old. You said Couch was the only player that contributed that wasn't a Cristobal acquisition?

So you found 1 CB, what else can we find?

Sticking to the secondary we can find both of our starting safetys. Players Mario failed to even find backups for.

The DL? LT was a Manny recruit.

Did George and X contribute this year? What about Smith?

Don Cheney?

TVD?

Jalen Rivers?

So we have a kicker that's any good?

Mario basically upgraded the LBs and added depth to RB, DT, and CB.

Everywhere else I see a failure so far. Bain and Cici being the major success.

I think you missed the word “senior.”

On account of inflationary pressures, I now don't give less than 3 cents.
