Molly McGrath talks to Behind the U about TVD and Dawson

Playbook comfortability would and should be a fluid ongoing conversation. But if that kid thinks he’s going to have any level of success in the NFL or P5 for that matter without picking his got **** feet up from time to time he’s insane.

LBs runnin 4.3s now… DE are super athletic and twitchy. He won’t give his team a chance vs equally matched teams.

many of you are missing the point. At the time they were having these conversations, TVD had not sustained all the injuries he had late in the season.

You cannot possibly think they didn't affect his play, both physically and mentally.

If he needs it to be black and white and doesn’t want to deal with “options” based on what the defense shows him then he needs to put his NFL dreams to bed. It’s not for him.

Defenses are too complex and he’ll constantly be baited into poor decisions.
Thats not what was said. He didnt like RPO. Tyler didnt like the RPO plays and the option for it. You wouldnt run RPO with someone like Brady or Manning (not presnap check which they both did) It is explained better in the end when she says she talked to Mcelroy. He didnt like all the options either, he just wanted to go through his progressions and throw. As much as everyone thinks RPO gives you advantages, it also has draw backs. There are still coaches who dont like it. RPO can be a pain in the *** for protections too, oline dont push down field on the runs and dont drop into pass protect completely on the passes. There are tons of qbs who feel the same way.

Peyton Manning saying he hates the options from RPOs.

Yeah this is crazy. And I’m like TVD’s biggest fan. I met him via FaceTime with coach during a playbook session. This kid is losing me by the second

Yes sir. And you are one of the guys who actually gets this, and understands.

Kid has gone from "oh, Coach Dawson is giving me sooooo much freedom and I love it" to "oh, Coach Dawson, I don't want the freedom, take the freedom away and tell me what to do on every play" in the span of a few months.

I feel bad for TVD for the three injuries. I don't feel bad about his MULTIPLE attempts to get paid more.

But I am ESPECIALLY ****ed off by this late-season excuse-making about "gray areas" and "not wanting to improvise".

That is patently false. Completely and totally untrue.

1. He tore three ligaments in a finger on his right hand IN FALL CAMP.
2. He took a shot to the ribs in the North Carolina game on October 14th (Game 6).
3. He suffered the Morel-Lavellee lesion (knee area) in the North Carolina game on October 14th.

He sat for Game 7. He played in Games 8 and 9. He was benched for Game 10 and then started in Game 11 and Game 12 after Emory was injured.

So if this mythical conversation happened post-UNC, then you are factually incorrect.

It is beyond crazy that Dawson and TVD didn't have a playbook review BEFORE THE SEASON STARTED ... how the **** do you wait until before week 12 to see if together you can "fix" the QB performance??????????
Dawson hasn't said this only the guy who is trying to justify his performance (or lack thereof) and departure.

Yeah I’m really upset about this. I love the kids talent. But his character is gonna keep him golfing versus the nfl.

Please stop trying to gaslight us.

TVD liked the RPO just fine in 2021.

Yes!!! I believe you’re saying that in the NFL they usually call two plays in the huddle, typically one pass or one run then it’s up to the QB to decide at the LOS if the defensive look they get warrants the second option. Which Brady and manning were killers with.

The RPO **** they tried forcing down this offenses throat absolutely nuked it. Once they stopped running it in game 11 the offensive was night and day better. I agree with TVD on that. We lost the FSU because we were married to the RPO.

However, at the same time. TVD comes off bad with these comments. Context is needed. As a high level QB you need to be able to digest and pick the correct option, make the correct read.

I’m guessing he was possibly complaining about the RPO and maybe his progressions based on coverages he faced. But if you’re a P5 QB you need to be able to understand progressions and identify coverages. And identify and counter defensive fronts. Could be talking about pass protection too.

Brutal, but completely true.

Bull****.

Tell me what we ran in 2021, Tyler's best season. I'll wait.

Good lord, the revisionist history that is being spun now...
Are you serious. They say it in the clip above. He didnt want an option to run on plays. Calls it the grey area. Then she clarifies by telling you McElroy didnt want it either.

Your post with Tyler's quotes are talking about audibles. Not RPO.

And no one said Tyler hasnt run RPO, just that he told Dawson he wasnt comfortable with it. So 2021 is ridiculous to bring up.

Manny loved recruiting betas. Just shows you how good of an OC Lashlee was that TVD could look as good as he did, but he certainly also had the benefit of having little to no game film for defenses to prep for.

Mario isn't dumb. The crap he said during his intro presser about TVD being the best QB in the nation was said to boost his confidence, and not something Mario truly believed.
Lashlee was such a great OC ? All TVD did was throw to Rambo and a little to mallory.

No one should feel bad for TVD. he flirted with leaving two off seasons in a row.

At this point....

FUUUUUUUUCK Tyler Van Dyke.

He had no problems running RPO in 2021.

He had no problems with our offense in the spring and summer.

As for PROGRESSIONS, please post the video of all the times he made progressions. He locked onto one receiver for much of the year, not bothering to look for TEs and RBs in the middle of the field, and missing other WRs who were wide open.

But FUUUUUUUCK all these excuses.

TVD is dead to me. He has other-worldly arm talent and accuracy, and a 10-cent brain.

And the excuses and ever-changing narratives...
