Missouri to hire Miami LB coach Derek Nicholson to same position

Hetherman can coach linebackers and if we get a guy like Monroe he can take the secondary which leaves room for a full time special teams coach.

Why not have Mario assume the "special teams coordinator" role just to show we're serious about fixing the problem?

This is a good outcome. We had a historically bad defense last season even if the stats don’t show it. It was the worst I’ve ever seen since watching Canes football starting in the early 80s. Not necessarily any one coach’s or staff member’s fault. I liked Nicholson as a recruiter and motivator (not thrilled with his results as a developer) . But giving the new DC free rein to rebuild and start over is a wise move.

JT last holdout. Also the one I think has been recruiting the best with the highest long term upside. Not sure about his actual coaching though. Gone or back?

Like I said Mario is the one that recruits these positions he’s the closer. He gets blame for the roster as well the way it was constructed

I don’t think that’s the case with the defense going forward. Will be interesting to monitor. Mario needs to have veto power but otherwise should turn staffing over to Mad Eyes.

I'd keep Taylor ONLY because his philosophy on line play didn't align with Guidry and probably didn't help

I stay skeptical about having former NFL stars turned position coaches on college staffs -- from Jason Taylor to Warren Sapp to everyone in between.

Have a hard time believing their legacies as players doesn't spill over into their wanting (or having) an outsized voice in a program. Takes a very secure HFC to keep those egoes in check.

You're a ******' position coach; it should be a straight, unglamorous grind. Do your job and be the best position coach you can be and STFU

I'm in the same boat with JT. Outstanding for recruiting. We've landed some of our best classes on the dline due to him that last couple of seasons. Not sure about his coaching and development just yet because Dline is a grown man's position. You need good (modeling clay/foundation/recruits) to provide a decent starting point. I will say Moten looked better last year and some of the other guys flashed. I could see them keeping him another year if he wants to stay just for the possible recruiting during the new busy period during the Summer.
