****Miami vs. Arkansas GAME THREAD****

At least we showed some fight tonight, but yikes this team is just flat out BAD. Some thoughts:

- L has embraced small ball for years. Why is he now deciding to go away from it? The combination of Kidd and Johnson does NOT work on either side of the court. We have the guard depth to play small ball
- Where was Divine? Kid needs minutes, period
- I like staton mccray’s hustle, but he’s a complete liability on offense
- Kidd is absolutely useless defensively and on the glass. So soft
- we went away from what was working down the stretch
- Arkansas’ star freshman had 18 points, 6 assists and 4 boards. Meanwhile, Bethea is on a milk carton. Is it too soon to call him a bust? He’s a complete non factor
Completely agree on the Bethea front. Was thinking the same thing with their “young freshman” showing up big where our 5 star is MIA

Led for 38 minutes and gave up a 13-5 run over the last 5 minutes to lose. This university’s athletic department is cooked.

Good effort-

Most of the team stats were even with th exception of 3 pt % we shot 31% Arkansas 47%

Bottom line 5 straight losses-

Pack 22 pts despite not being 100%-

Boogie Fland out of the Bronx NY will be vying for SEC freshman of the year-Helluva player.

Without Pack playing tonight this game isn’t even close. Really thought he’d be out tonight.

He’s been a huge disappointment. L also has no clue how to use him, which doesn’t help.

How to use him? He misses shots, fouls, and turns the ball over. What’s he good at?

I can’t blame L for the kid just not being good at the sport.

If Pack was healthy I'd still like to see this starting five

? Normally, I'd slot in 2 but he's too much of a stretch 4 on offense so far for me

Bring Jalen off the bench as the first scorer

Were all the recruiting sites and NBA scouts wrong about him? He was an elite prospect coming out of high school. Why does he look totally incompetent here? L has a history of struggling with freshmen.

That’s fair. I just don’t see any of that in live action. He gets his chances and does nothing with them.

Wow! Last in the ACC! haven't beaten a power conference team since last year. The disappointment between the football team and basketball team is crazy.

Dolphins suck. The Heat sucks.

What a terrible sports year for me.

Bruce Brown
Chris Lykes
Lonnie Walker(once he got healthy and learned to coexist with Bruce Brown)
Shane Larkin
Benz Joseph/Wooga Poplar(Both got a ton of minutes on an Elite 8 team, because they could fill a role)

The list goes on. If you are willing to either fill a role until you figure it out and provide something of value, L will play you, even if you are a freshman. It's amazing how fans run to these narratives, despite evidence to the contrary staring them dead in the face.

Bethea isn't getting minutes because he's soft as ****, and lacks maturity. He is an AAU star that doesn't want to play team basketball and L isn't going to let him do whatever he wants, whenever he wants. I wouldn't be shocked if he hits the portal, because people are seeing that he isn't mature enough for the League right now. It's a shame because he has talent, but uncoachable talent is a waste.

He’s not uncoachable. He chose to come here because he believed that his game could be developed here.

It’s an incredibly fine line and hard balance.

It’s pretty indisputable that freshman get a short rope. There’s good reason for it… but a lot of coaches are doing it differently today. And with success.

Bethea’s confidence is broken right now. In the past kids would learn. Now I think they will just transfer.

It’s tricky but I don’t think either side (staff’s fault or Bethea’s fault) is totally correct.

His confidence may be broken, but when you consistently make the same mistakes over and over again and then lash out, that's a sign you think that you know better than the people working with you. I wanted to believe that his HS outbursts and issues was just him having some fire, but when Coach L doesn't even bother talking to you after you make the same mistakes, that's a bad sign. He's talented, but I don't think he has the mental toughness needed. One can say the AAU method of talent development builds mentally fragile athletes, that lack the toughness to see things through, and unfortunately, I believe Bethea is a victim of a flawed developmental system.

I look at Bethea and how #99 responds to coaching and it's night and day. 99 understands his role, and that's why a lot of us are annoyed when he doesn't get minutes. We know he has limitations, but dude is out there scrapping, he has that dog in him. Let him fill a role and work with him. It's not like this team is going anywhere fast, see what you have with him and some of the other youngsters. Swartz showed some fight tonight too, you can see that there are physical tools and some basketball IQ.
