Miami/Syracuse 1992

Faulk was the only guy I ever saw turn the corner against that 91 defense and 'the Bermuda Triangle'. And there was a run or two where IIRC Charles Pharms was able to juuust trip him up or he was going for about 80 yards.

I knew then he wasn't just a guy running around WAC defenses

He actually got hurt the week before the Miami game. SDState was playing Fresno State at the same time as our Cuse game. I was at a bar watching both. They had an unreal fight, the brawl literally went from one goal line to another

That was ol' time football!!!
I'm just so thankful Dennis wouldn't give him a look at RB. We offered him at Corner. Wasn't good enough to be a Cane running back. Just terrible ability lol

No one else offered him as an RB either. That's why he went out west.

couple things here. Good game. Syr had a good team.

That LB trio for Miami, you will never see a better one. All great.

You can see of course 32 years later hindsight being 20/20 how the team was going to struggle vs Bama in that Sugar Bowl. Especially that O line. Of course me being a 17 year old homer fan thought we were going to destroy Bama.

In fact, I know this is blasphemy and I'll prob take some heat for this. But I dont know if we would have beaten Washington in '91 if Miami met them in a bowl game.

I think we win this Saturday 38-20
We had much better tackles in 91. Searcy was an animal. The reality is, Bama was a great matchup for them. It was their night. Copeland, Curry, Langham, and Teague were the difference. Take away a few of those guys and the results are very different. Bama wasn't even very good if you look at the Florida game in the SEC championship. It was their night and our RT and LT being an absolute disgrace was a huge part of it.

A few more thoughts from rewatching the game.

The UM Oline was awful. One of the tackles weighed 236 lbs!

I remember this season very well and even I can’t understand how Toretta won the Heisman. Cam Ward is approximately 236.5% better than Gino. If Cam Ward ever played a game as poorly as Gino played against Cuse, CIS would file a lawsuit against Ward asking for a repayment of his NIL money. Gino won a lot of low scoring games because the front 7 was lights out.

The DB’s outside of Ryan McNeil were nothing special.
Some here were filling out the paperwork after GT...

Absolutely incredible trip down memory lane. From massive fights and anyone, anytime anywhere to winning is hard and away game fans did not make my old fashioned strong enough.

Wild times. **** Syracuse. I hope Cam scores 3 extra touchdowns to say **** you to Jim Boeheim too

that was 1990, my first Miami game in-person. That game also had a great bench clearing brawl

I remember this series was supposed to go on for like 16 years(which was great for me as I live in SoCal) but after the 92 donnybrook both sides canceled the rest of the series...

Yeah, I also think that "joining the Big East" killed some of those planned series with other independent teams.

But I also won't discount that the 1990 team like to chirp, they liked to mix things up. This was the team that got flagged for all those penalties in the Cotton Bowl...

I remember watching the game at my fraternity brother's house in Greenbelt, MD like yesterday. It was a real tight game and I felt so relieved to see us win.

Marvin Graves did....

"The trainer was out there with Graves...he is going to continue...he was nauseous from taking so many hits to the head that he got sick right out there on the field, but he's hanging in there and wants to finish the game" :roll-canes2:

A great brawl near the end. One of those Miami games they should’ve won by 30 yet couldn’t figure out San Diego State offense.

I’ve still find a hard to believe no one recruited Faulk to play running back except San Diego State. I’m sure he’s not lying, but how many teams that evaluation? I think Miami also recruited him as a defensive back.

Imagine the numbers he would’ve put up if had he stayed home played RB in the $EC? Only referring to that ****** conference because I think he’s from Louisiana.

I remember they went up to Happy Valley in their senior seasons and just dominated Penn St on that beautiful Saturday afternoon.

They played so well together-To me Darren Smith might be the most underrated LB in Miami history-He could defend in space , was excellent against the run and he’s the best sideline to sideline linebacker I’ve seen at UM he had incredible range.
I gotta go with Romeo Davis.

I was at this game, last game I got to attend with my grandfather (UM alum) who is the entire reason I bleed orange and green. He passed away the following March.

Incredible memories, that place was insanely loud. First time I had ever had a beer thrown at me (or at least in my general direction) by an opposing fan LOL. I was thirteen so I had never experienced an environment like that before.
