Miami/Syracuse 1992

Idk why man but kids back then just seemed older

They were grown *** men
Testosterone levels have been dropping in the west due to environmental factors (pollutants) since the 1950s at least. There just aren't as many men today. Major sports would have a disproportionate number of these types of males today.

Remember the game very well-Darren Krein had a huge sack on Marvin Graves at the nine yard line-

The Bermuda Triangle with Smith,Barrow and Armstead-The best linebacking trio in UM history.

Cuse had RB Terry Richardson from Northeast HS in Fort Lauderdale, excellent TE in Chris Gedney and Rocket Ismail’s brother Quadry at WR.
The best linebacking trio in the history of college football.

Was this the game that our guys were draped all over Dan McGwire over and over and still had trouble bringing him down?

that was 1990, my first Miami game in-person. That game also had a great bench clearing brawl

I remember this series was supposed to go on for like 16 years(which was great for me as I live in SoCal) but after the 92 donnybrook both sides canceled the rest of the series...

I had to go to the cable company office and rent a special box to be able to get this game on PPV. I was 17 and my dad was ****ed when he saw the bill.

that was the era of needing those big satellite dishes(this was before DirecTV) or going to a bar that had one. I went to Legends in Long Beach, which was owned by Hurricane great, Dennis Harrah

I remember they went up to Happy Valley in their senior seasons and just dominated Penn St on that beautiful Saturday afternoon.

They played so well together-To me Darren Smith might be the most underrated LB in Miami history-He could defend in space , was excellent against the run and he’s the best sideline to sideline linebacker I’ve seen at UM he had incredible range.

Cristobal talked about this game in his presser today. Record crowd at the Carrier Dome, #8 Syracuse versus #1 Miami. The Canes won a thriller, 16-10.

Rewatching the game, that front seven is leagues above any team today. Warren Sapp (#76), Darren Krein (#91), Mark Caesar (#99), Jessie Armstead (#1), Michael Barrow (#56) and Darren Smith (#1).

There are also appearances from Rohan Marley (#2), Dexter "ABC" Seigler (#34), and of course Mario Cristobal at RT and LT (#72).

This is a really cool video that cuts out everything but the plays.

@k9cane

If not mistaken, Donovan McNabb vomitted in that game.

couple things here. Good game. Syr had a good team.

That LB trio for Miami, you will never see a better one. All great.

You can see of course 32 years later hindsight being 20/20 how the team was going to struggle vs Bama in that Sugar Bowl. Especially that O line. Of course me being a 17 year old homer fan thought we were going to destroy Bama.

In fact, I know this is blasphemy and I'll prob take some heat for this. But I dont know if we would have beaten Washington in '91 if Miami met them in a bowl game.

I think we win this Saturday 38-20

I was at the ‘92 Canes / Syracuse game. My second ever UM game (first was Wide Right 2 earlier in the year…).

Still remember watching LT, Copeland, Kevin Williams and everyone warming up and thinking we’d see the offensive fireworks. But it was a true defensive battle that Cuse almost stole at the end.

Was just happy to get the W in the end of it

A few more thoughts from rewatching the game.

The UM Oline was awful. One of the tackles weighed 236 lbs!

I remember this season very well and even I can’t understand how Toretta won the Heisman. Cam Ward is approximately 236.5% better than Gino. If Cam Ward ever played a game as poorly as Gino played against Cuse, CIS would file a lawsuit against Ward asking for a repayment of his NIL money. Gino won a lot of low scoring games because the front 7 was lights out.

The DB’s outside of Ryan McNeil were nothing special.

Some injuries and Erickson recruiting misses really hurt the Oline. By the end of that year we had converted a Carlos Etheredge (who was a tight end) and Kipp Vickers (a former defensive tackle) to that starting unit

What's interesting is that both guys actually played a few years in the NFL

But that team couldv'e lost a few games that regular season. They beat Arizona 8-7 at home, that should've told us something
