Miami opens +1 @ Louisville

Guy adjusts every game. Our D practically pitched a shutout last week.

This is one I don't get. The Cal line was obviously crap. The setup for a real battle was there. But we're much better than Loserville. I would expect 10+

The evidence was first there against UF when Lagway came in and hit back to back slants, and almost housed a QB run.

Then FAMU with their overweight QB running around.

Then USF gashed us with the slants.

VT and Cal scored at will despite struggling to even get field goals against other sub .500 teams.

Louisville will score at will against our new donofrio defense. They will do everything imaginable with their RB, and they will throw TD passes to uncovered players, multiple times.

I have completely written off the defense as unsalvagable. The players do not have the mental capacity to play P4 football.

The game will come down to the offense playing well in the first and second half. If the offense can score 21 per half, we should win.

Miami is the better team with the best QB in the country. As long as we don’t help them, Miami will win.

No turnovers. No ill-timed penalties. No special teams gaffes.
I think miami prob has the better talent at about every position across the board. I think the only reason people question the victory is because of the expectations of Guidry getting schemed up. If we don't score in the high 30s low 40s range I'm not super confident we win.

Look at the last 3 weeks. We played USF in 100 degree heat, they run the fastest tempo in football, and we were their Super Bowl. We won the game convincingly because we're the better team, but we had players dropping like flies with cramps and overheating and exhaustion. But we win.

Then we play Virginia Tech on six days of rest on the following Friday. That's a rivalry game, we are their Super Bowl. We still win.

Then we fly 3000 miles to play Cal. The game doesn't end until 2:30 AM. Cal has a BYE the week before, it's their first ever College Gameday, and so we're their Super Bowl. We come out flat but we still win.

Nobody is talking about it, but WE WERE JUST TIRED. That was a brutal stretch.

A lot of the defensive issues - missed assignments, missed tackles - those things will be corrected with nothing more than just getting proper rest.

I think we come out and blow Louisville out. We're a much better team than they are, and we'll be healthy and rested. This will look a lot more like the first couple weeks than the last couple IMO.

Biggest key is the offense not struggling in the first half. We do that, defense isn’t on its heels. Even if we’re trading TDs in the first half, I think the trend is that the D will get settled down in the second half and we can pull away. But the key thing is that we can’t be down a couple TDs going into the half again. Yes it would be nice if the D kept the opponents off the scoreboard in the first half but the offense is what makes this team good. It has to stop with the self inflicted wounds. Hopefully Rivers coming back changes the dynamic and we can get a little bit of the run game. Also Ward ideally learned a valuable lesson about taking check downs and taking what the D gives him instead of playing hero ball all the time.

This should be a 14-17 win. Mario’s done a great job cleaning up a lot of the things that has hurt him in the past. Hopefully coming out of a bye with a big win will be the next one he conquers

People keep saying this but we are legitimately two referee decisions away from being 0-2 in the ACC. Yes we fought back and put ourselves in position to win and got two breaks to go our way.

But we’ve won many games over the last 20 years where we say, “last years team would have lost” then it turns out to just be some lucky breaks.

Just some that come to mind.
2023 Clemson
2020 NC St
2013 UF
2012 GT
2011 Ohio St
2009 3-1 start mainly the Oklahoma game.

And so on.

In 2017 we just kept getting the bounces until our health got us. Maybe this year will be like that and we avoid injuries in the second half of the year. Next week will go a long way in telling us the identity of this team.
We aren’t a national championship level team, we know this much. If you look at the next tier of teams, like PSU, I think you’ll see teams like this year’s Miami… winning close games against average opponents.

****, even the NC contenders are winning close games vs average competition. The difference is probably talent level at a couple positions per team.

"**** pushed in" is just wrong and you don't know ball if you think that's what happened

we were ranked 5th in terms of net success rate last weekend, which means we dominated nearly the entire game

the PROBLEM as we know is the few plays we did lose, they all were 50-60 yard td's

"**** pushed in" implies cal drove the field and manhandled us, and that couldn't be further from the truth

our secondary played like dog **** and we gave up 4 massive plays. Fixing schematical errors is a lot easier week to week then fixing physicality, which wasn't our issue
Whatever. When your Defense gives up 31 points against a terrible offense, it got its **** pushed in. Spin it how ever you want.

People keep saying this but we still had 3 timeouts during the Cal review. Cal hadn’t done squat in the second half, so if we’re playing trends, the likelihood is even if the review goes the other way we stop them, get the ball back, and score to win.

Stop running with narratives made up by the talking heads. Those are the same ones who are thisclose to ranking Bama ahead of Miami despite a loss to Vandy and almost loss yesterday.

(btw no targeting call on the field in the Cal game, so opposite of the VT standard of review but nobody wants to delve into specifis there…whatever, people have their minds made up already).

This will be Louisville 5th straight game. How is their health?

I would think they are a little tired as well and it’s a noon kickoff so fans barely have time to drink their coffee and get in 1 alcoholic drink before the game starts.

It will be the earliest kick for Miami this year so let’s see if they are sleep walking to start.

The 1st quarter will tell me how this game will go. It will be apparent early if this will be a dog fight like the last two games.

If Bain loses his rustiness and, after a rest, Baron gets back his mojo then we can do some damage to the LV offense…
