Correct me if I am wrong, but this might be the first time Mario has made a public statement about a firing. He must be absolutely ****ed. We wasted a generational talent with a defense that could not even get lined up half the time. Mario probably wanted to ring Guidrys neck in the bowl game when Hill consistently ran around like a chicken with his head cut off trying to get lined up. Such a shame man. He better get a monster hire because this defense will need to cook next year. We don’t have a Cam coming in the door to save us.

The positive for Mario is no one in their right mind thinks he's only got one more season at Miami. So you can lure someone in for the job that otherwise has job security. You're not worried about moving to Coral Gables in Feb just to pack up in Nov

After a season in which Miami's defense likely cost the Hurricanes a spot in the College Football Playoff, the Hurricanes will be making a change at defensive coordinator.

Lance Guidry is expected to be fired, sources tell CanesInSight. Against FBS opponents, Miami finished 70th in scoring defense (26.7 PPG), 50th in 3rd Down Defense (37.75%) and 82nd in takeaways (1.3),

Mario Cristobal issues the following statement on the decision:

“I want to first thank Coach Guidry for his contributions to the University of Miami.

“In a continuous effort to always improve all aspects of our program, I have decided to make a change on defense. We will move forward and make decisions that provide our players, staff and program the best opportunity to win and develop at the highest level.”

The defense was one of the worst in the ACC during conference play, struggling with communication and pre-snap movement, among other areas.

Miami will now look for its third defensive coordinator of the Cristobal Era, following Guidry and Kevin Steele.

If we’re looking to poach from Texas I don’t think Terry Joseph is the right one. Never been a DC.

Don’t love Johnny Nansen either but he has been a DC and took Arizona from 102nd (year before he started), 125th (1st year), to 30th in his second season.

Not the answer IMO but I think he would be good. Excellent recruiter and keeps the Samoan pipeline open if Joe is gone.

Do we have a break down of the Samoan pipelines, and the benefits thereof, at playoff and "playoff caliber" schools?

Sources tell On3 that there has already been contact between Miami and Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Tyler Santucci. The 36-year-old coordinator held Miami to 23 points earlier this season and is a rising star in the coaching world. But while Santucci was viewed earlier this week as the hire, Texas A&M has entered the picture as a possible landing spot, too. Santucci has previously worked with Mike Elko in College Station and at Duke. Georgia Tech allowed 24.3 points per game this season.

Lol it definitely won't be before the playoffs end. That's for sure!

Horrible DC, I thought nobody could be as bad as D'Onofrio, but I think Guidry topped him. Cost us a place in CFP, I've never seen a defense that consistently looked as confused as ours just lining up for a play.

The context on this one was a lil different then those guys, We just had a generational talent at QB, the best to ever walk thru UM doors and a chance to really change the perception of the program and a have a possible national championship appearance if you could just field an average/decent defense. it wouldve been a MASSIVE boost for the program going forward...Guidry proceeded to trot out one of the worst if not the worst defense in UM history and completely bombed any potential of a special season & we ALL knew it after Cal, absolutely NO WAY you can bring him back, would've been **** near career suicide to do so for Mario, and even if he wanted to bring guidry back the powers that be most likely force his hand anyways.
