Miami #9 in Second CFP Ranking

2 games left. Traditionally this is where the team folds. A loss before a bye I don’t think helps things. Let’s see this culture change in action now.

In 2002, Miami went undefeated in the regular season, and lost in the Fiesta Bowl to Ohio State.

Since then, they have completed 19 football seasons.

In those 19 football seasons, there was ONE where the team won 9 or more of its first 10 games. 2017. The quarterback was Malik Rosier. I'm a little fuzzy, but I can't remember him being a lock to be a Heisman Finalist that year.

There is exactly zero evidence of a 9-1 Miami Hurricanes football team "folding" during the entire lives of any of the players on the current roster. Not one thing.

You guys always kill me with this stuff. In 2014, Al Golden did such and such, so be careful this year, because blah blah blah. None of that **** matters in the least bit. How will THIS team finish? It's TBD. But it's not one billionth of one percent influenced by what other teams did.

So ridiculous. They play cupcakes OOC anyway. No one has control over their conference games. They used to have it easier when there were divisions....

It's such a stupid argument from Rece Davis.

The Big 10 and SEC will likely start to play either 9 or 10 conference games soon.

They are also discussing an "SEC-Big 10 Challenge" for one of the OOC games.

So you will likely have ONE OR TWO out-of-conference game slots that could be scheduled against "lesser" teams.

But, sure, let's all whine about the "current system" and ignore the fact that there will be even more changes to come in the next few years.

Dumb.

If the Canes win out, you will be surprised how high the Canes climb. I would be surprised if Texas doesn’t get 1-2 losses before the end of the season (including the SEC championship game), and a 2-loss SEC team might win the championship game. Oregon, OSU and/or Indiana will suffer at least 1 loss (including the B10 championship game) so there will be plenty of opportunities for the Canes to move up pretty high if they win out the regular season and the ACC Championship game

So here's what I've been struggling with. I really think these playoff rankings are totally irrelevant for us, as all the evidence is pointing towards the ACC being a one-bid league. Meaning, if we win the league, we get a first round bye. If we don't, we miss the playoff. Easy. Rankings are meaningless.

HOWEVER, as much as I believe what I wrote above to be true, the fact that they only dropped us to #9 gives me a little bit of pause.

Hear me out....we have heard whispers for a long time of teams not being punished for losing conference championship games while others are rewarded for NOT earning the right to get there.

So, let's say Miami wins the next 2 games very convincingly. BYU is ahead of us, they lose a game, they drop behind us. Indiana is ahead of us, they lose to Taint, they drop below us. I think Tennessee drops below us with a loss to UGA this week, but they'll likely jump UGA above us, so that's kinda moot. So I can see Miami being possibly 7th or even maybe 6th headed into the ACCCG.

If we lose to SMU, who wins out and likely moves into the Top 12 by then, in a very good, very close game.....do they drop Miami from 6th all the way to 12th or 13th and they MISS the playoffs just because they lose in a conference championship game? I still think the answer is yes, and the ACC is only getting 1 team in. But that will be a VERY interesting discussion. Do you drop a team from 6 to 13 just because they lose a conference championship game 34-33 to a Top 10 team? Would be really interesting.
