Mark Richards game 1 highlights

Let the kid determine what is best for him! However, I trust the staff decision where he can help the TEAM. We are loaded at RB currently, and favorite to land 3-4 from the 2019 and 2020 classes. Dion Sanders and Shaun Taylor we’re outstanding offensive players too, but they improved the team performance defensively. I rather have the best athletes playing defense and special teams. If properly coach up, Richards is an all American safety!

Duke Johnson, who is a better runner than Richards, now says he wishes he played DB in college.

Let Richards compete at RB. Whatever it takes to get him in the program. If he's the best RB, he will play. But just because someone is dynamic with the ball in their hands doesn't mean they should play offense. Ed Reed and Sean Taylor are pretty good examples of that.

It is not all about physical ability. To play defense like ST did, in addition to the freakish physical ability, you have to have the state mind of the violent predator like ST had. Not all players like to hit hard and punish people on the field. I'm not saying that Richards doesn't, I just don't know what his mindset is.

No.1 player in south florida I don't care who thinks different. He should be able to play whatever position he want.

I think most schools just want to win while not thinking where the kid’s best position to develop is.
Best example is Tyler ****birrd. Dude spent 2 years at receiver cause they needed his speed and athleticism. Now he’s back at db cause the previous staff were idiots.
However, we have to have MAR’s input and I’m sure the staff isn’t rigid in how they want to evaluate and develop him and thats the key.

There was a player back in the day that the U and other schools made clear to him that they wanted him at db and only one school promised him they would give him a shot at running back.
The school was San Diego State and his name is Marshall Faulk.

DBs get drafted at a higher frequency than RBs, in higher draft positions, and get paid more on second contracts once in the NFL. that is not arguable. if mark anthony richards wants to make a lot of money playing football he'll choose DB.

that said, mark richt's job is not to get the player the most money in the NFL but to win the most games for the university of miami. now in most cases, those things overlap, but that's not always the case. duke might've made more money in the NFL as a DB (tho by RB standards he actually did okay), but i don't think for a second that those canes teams would've been better with him playing DB. i think the exact same thing could be said for deejay dallas.

but d money is right--whatever gets him on campus.

talking like Al Golden in charge

we have botched a few recruitments like this under the new regime. Also our track record with top flight locals speaks for itself.

A kid like this you just have to get him on campus and figure the positions out later. You cant pigeon hole a kid of this caliber. If he wants to be the punter.. you let him try

And if we told Duke he’d have to play CB when we were recruiting him, then we might have lost him.

Grown folks look at things differently than kids. We know he could have a longer more lucrative career at DB, but kids tend to not listen to reason. They want what they want.

Not sure y the staff insist on him playing D; he’s an athlete. Measure him on both the O and D and let the chips fall. If we lose him b/c of stubbornness, I will b beyond ****ed. But in the end, I do think he’ll be a Cane...but nothing is a lock and pls let do away w the Pete schtick that was hardly accurate as it was.

If we lose this over the **** position crap. This staff needs to give a lil more lip service.

Tell me this doesn’t turn into the following scenario: We recruit Marc all along at Safety; we recruit McIntosh at RB; McIntosh decides to go somewhere else; we suddenly start pitching to Marc that he can come in as a RB; Marc feels some feelings about that; Marc tells the world he feels more comfy at (insert KKK school).
Eh, I think he said himself that the coaches have basically been fighting over who gets him, So I don't think he'd hold it against us if we suddenly want him to work at RB. Plus I think from the getgo we said he's a guy we def could play both ways - I think he said the Staff was mentioning a Jabrill Peppers type role (S, RB, Returner). Idgaf what he plays, just get him on the team.

If you have the choice of being an elite RB, WR, CB, or S, I think its pretty obvious NOBODY would pick RB. It just doesn't make sense. And thats no more evident than the situation Leveon Bell is in - best RB in the NFL for the last few years and the Steelers won't even offer him more than $10M in guaranteed money. yet Guys like Sammy Watkins, who didn't play all that great last year, got $16m/yr easy.

AVG nfl salary for top10:

RB - $8.5M/yr. And 3 of those are ******* Rookie Contracts. ....only 9 more RBs even make $4M/yr or more.
WR - $15.5M/yr. ...and theres 10 MORE WRs making $10M/yr or more....and ******* 47 more WRs that make $4m/yr or more.
CB - $13.6M/yr....and theres 31 MORE CBs that make $4m/yr or more.
S - $10.4M/yr .....and theres 27 more that make $4m/yr or more.

Number of players that make over $4m/yr: 78 DBs, 57 WRs, and only 19 RBs .... there is simply more value at DB or WR than RB

Tell him he can start at QB if he wants, just get him to commit. Film is ridiculous.

I legit don't understand the fascination w playing this kid on D. Not saying that he's not an intriguing prospect there or can't do it, but I'm not sure how anyone can watch any of his highlights and be deadset on putting him at Safety.

Sean Taylor was a better RB in high school than Richards. When you watch this film you see an explosive kid with great hip movement and a willingness to deliver punishment, that is exactly what you need to be a All American safety.

Lets not act like his safety tape isn’t outstanding in its own right

It’s all about value above replacement level player.
