Mario has got a lot of heat on this board, and some of it is absolutely warranted. But, a sign of a good leader is the willingness to acknowledge problems and take real steps to address them quickly. Recap….

We he arrives he understands the offensive line was a mess. Brings in Mirabal and some stud players, and now the olline is a strength. Understands he needs a more dynamic offense. Brings in Dawson and Cam, and the offense goes berserk. Realizes the secondary is a mess. Shores it up big time in the portal this year. Realizes the whole defensive scheme is out of whack. He cleans house on the defensive coaching side. I’m sure I’m missing some other points.

A lot of decision-makers never admit failure and never adjust (see Golden and his boy D’nofrio, or however you spell his name). Mario may not be a 10 out of 10, but you have to respect his willingness to make changes.

Go Canes.

I've bashed Mario incessantly since the debacle against Syracuse, but I have to give credit when credit is due. He has totally revamped the secondary, added a potential star QB in Beck, added other key pieces to the team, and finally hired a new DC that seems like an excellent fit.

Mario's love and commitment to the U is beyond reproach and hopefully everything comes together this season. And as the OP stated, a key component of great leadership is identifying weaknesses and taking swift action to correct those weaknesses.

Kudos Mario!

My main beef with Mario, and this might be more of a Shalala curse thing because it’s not exclusive to just him, but we can NEVER put all this **** together at once. Ever.

So you make fine points and I agree, but why does this school continually plug a leak in the boat only to have another one immediately spring? We can afford a $3M quarterback, can we not afford some ******* flex seal??

So I’m pumped about the DB room. I think Mario is a ******* savage and you cannot possibly have anyone on the planet that will work harder to win here. But ****, for the love of Christ, can we just have it all come together just once? #1 offense in America and we put the 2022 defense back on the field.

2018, we have a top 10 defense, we beat FSU to go to 5-1 and we promptly score THIRTEEN points against Virginia and lose.

I’m really tired of jerking each other off over one move or two, or flipping a room, and then all of a sudden holy **** don’t look behind that door there’s a vat of buttholes where our punter should be.

All that said, we’re going to be very good again in 2025, provided Beck is fully ready in a couple months. Mario is doing well and steadily improving the program. 10 wins is cool. But Jesus Herbert Walker Christ, win this god awful conference. Now.

So basically we’ve been putting our fingers in dykes since Shalala was here?

We all know Mario's positives and negatives. I would say a big part of his future here is riding on Hetherman. Let's see who they fill out the rest of the staff with. I don't believe for a second with Hetherman's resume and coaching roledex that he is picking 3 staff members on this D alone. That is not a knock on him. I assume he will be involved.

I think my main criticism is that he is reactive--always a step behind responding to problems after their effects have been thoroughly felt. If he could get ahead of the curve, he could win us a title.

Appreciate people owning what at times has been over the top heat for Mario

I am good with calling the guy out however at times (usually right after we lose) some give the impression that winning is easy - it is NOT - proof
- Good chance Ohio State wins the Natty Monday
- Most say it was the most expensive roster in the history of college athletics (well maybe behind SMU back in the day)
- Others have said they expect 20 of their 22 starters to eventually get drafted
- And they lost TWO games this year - including one at home

this year was our easiest path, Clemson is going to be good next year - we'll have to be much better overall team than we were this year to win the ACC

Maaaan I really want Mario to succeed. The guy is on a **** mission for our beloved program and he has the right vision. Although warranted at times, he gets nothing but crap from the media, fans, other coaches. I’d love nothing more than to see him put it all together and give a middle finger to CFB.

it is refreshing, Manny was less qualified but would also make big changes but I feel his recruiting and just overall management of a program led to his downfall. Don't have to worry about recruiting with Mario. Richt and Golden were too stubborn to make changes

Mario has proven to be the type of recruiting / CEO type we need and is willing to cut ties with anyone and everyone who isn't helping us grow which I think is great. I'm not sure if we'll ever win one with Mario, my heart says yes, but my gut says it's too high of speak and we'll probably blow it - but no doubt in my mind that Mario can get us to perennial 10-win seasons and competing for ACC titles every year, which is honestly a necessary leap for a program like us that hasn't sniffed that in a long long time

also, a play caller HC hasn't won a title since Jimbo in 2013 so feel like we have the model that works
