Mario.

I don’t care about off season hype; we’ve been crowing off season moves by coaches for as long as I’ve been on this site.

I can’t tell u how many “Say what u want about Manny, but….” threads there were from 2019-21.

I just want a cohesive, complimentary football team.

In 2022, both the O & Def sucked.
In 2023, the O sucked, & The Def was stellar (blame TVD, Guidry da Gawd)
In 2024, the O was and elite, & The Def sucked (blame Guidry, Cam & Dawson da Gawds)

Can we finally have a Def compliment the O or a O that compliments the Def? That’s all I care about b/c every pick up every off season is elite. Show us

to be fair, the offseasons are usually only "elite" to us and cane fans that are viewing through rose-colored glasses

our season will depend upon Hetherman, Beck's elbow, and our recently acquired secondary talent

All I’ll say is as long as he’s here he’s willing to do whatever he needs to and make changes to make us an consistent threat in cfb which is what we need, whether we can become Bama/UGA level elite is still long a way off & I think those days of dominance are over in this new landscape, just gotta be in the conversation most years n hope it all comes together at the right time like ND this year.

I think the incessant need to give Mario credit for literally doing what he gets paid to do speaks to how yall really feel about him, vs what yall say you feel about him.
He literally has portions of the roster in a condition it shouldn’t be in right now in year 4 but he’s a very good and relentless recruiter so he’ll go out and bring in players like Beck this cycle, for instance, partially fixing the problem. Then the MariBros start peacocking all over the place because he fixed his own mess. 💁🏻‍♂️

The secondary was in the worst shape I’ve ever seen and that was my number 1 wish to resolve in terms of personnel, though after I saw Emory in the Crack Rock Bowl, that was rough. I don’t not see us getting 10 wins again in the regular season unless we have an elite WR1 and RB1 on the way, even with a better defense. We lost too much production on offense that i don’t think we can replace in kind and the schedule will be harder.

Brofense will never embrace a passing offense
Misused Herbert will never get another good QB again
Losing record after 2 years will never be able to land a top high school class again
One-hit-wonder with Cam, will never do that again
Control freak who will never hire coordinators that run their own staffs
Recruiting has-been whose one talent is neutralized in the NIL era
Processed-obsessed who isn't agile enough to bring in top new staff and top portal players at the same time

After the amazing offense this past season, can we let him have the missing “o” in MariBros?

Not sure about the RB1. I think our RB room will be fine. Agree with you on WR1 and to that I would add a LB1 and one more top-end DL. I also expect we'll lose some guys we don't want to lose after Spring ball, so we need to be prepared to fill more holes.

All that said, I firmly believe we're in a better position than we were a year ago today. Those 23 and 24 classes are growing up, we'll see many guys take that next step now. I don't know if it will be Lyle, Scott, Lofton, Lightfoot, Carr, Popo ... who specifically. But there's enough depth across the team we'll see some ballers.

We're going to need Beck to be Ward, and have an influx of skill position talent that I personally think is unlikely, in order to get to 10 wins. We have lost a LOT of talent at the skill positions, and I don't see as much as we lost walking right back through the door.

Throw in the tougher schedule and I see a potentially disastrous 2025 if we don't get some high level WRs in here.

This coming year will be tougher absolutely, agree on the WR1 we need and I also think we need a LB1

Really think Fletcher isn’t an RB1 in year 3 and Lyle isn’t good enough for RB2? I think an RB3/4 would be helpful for depth though

I don’t know what we have in those classes. There’s been a lot of guys before that who didn’t pan out here. They have got to play the young talent though.

Kumbaya off season is here where everyone praises Mario for correcting the same mistakes he continuously makes while looking at everything in a vacuum.

Vacuum?
Win / Loss Record: 5-7 to 7-6 to 10-3
NFL draftees:
2022: 1 (Ford R7), 2023: 3 (Stevenson R2 / Mallory R5 / Ivey R7), 2024: 4 (Kinchens R3 / Davis R7 / Lee R7 / Williams R7). 2025: TBD but Ward is going R1.

I can see why Saban loved Mario and truly appreciated his recruiting prowess.

But I can also see why Saban continued to win without Mario.

Hopefully ‘25 is year where we can play both sides of the ball well.

Yeah, but most coaches at all levels don’t do what they get paid to do. These days just being borderline competent puts you in the upper 80th percentile.
