Mario tips off national reporters first

I was told last night the dc would be announced today. I posted that an hour before it was announced. I posted last night “Strong would not be the play caller going forward and Steele was not going to be the play caller next year. The speed of this hire would prove that”. Guidry did catch me off guard though.

Btw Campanelli was not a smoke screen . People hear names that Mario has spoken with and automatically think they’re the leader or think it’s for the position they assume. Mario has spoken to a lot of the names you’ve read but that was all it was. Candle like last year is the choice , it’s just a matter if he accepts.
footballscoop had candle last year too

Any chance Campanile comes on as a Co-DC/LB Coach? Dude was awesome for the Dolphins and was a finalist for their DC Job.
Agree he would be a nice add... but hope Mario learned his lesson after last year... i don't know how these things work but seems best to let Guidry pick his staff/co-workers... so signing Campanile on and saying "Here Guidry here's your partner" is hopefully not the plan.

My question is, what caused Mario to sour on Steele? I mean, to have such a lengthy and deliberate interview process, you would think they were on the same page for the vision of the defense. Was Mario less than thrilled on Steele’s recruiting (or lack thereof), lack of connection to players, a combination of things, or did he always see this as a “prove it” or stopgap year since he lost out on primary targets? I’m more than happy with the Guidry hire, just wondering what went wrong with Steele.
Can't say anything went wrong with Steele.

He went to a job closer to home.

For a significantly superior organization I might add.

Where is this Johnson stuff coming from?
FootballScoop posted his name

"From the NFL standpoint, most chatter has focused around Notre Dame’s potential interest in former Tampa Bay Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, who starred collegiately at Marshall, as well as Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson."

As Mario should. We're a national program that gets absolutely nothing beneficial from local media (relative to how those relationships work in a TON of other places). It's more beneficial to have a Bruce Feldman type appear on national programs and talk about us than to play footsie with local reporters/media and have them bury us the moment they think it'll get clicks or advance their own careers. ****, I'd start giving Josh Pate more "access" than I do anyone locally.
I would add, how often do you see local reporters breaking it when Alabama or Clemson hires someone new? Pete Thamel alone seems to break 80% of the coaching hires in college football.

Manny Navarro got a tip this morning from Ari Wasserman that Lance Guidry could be the guy. He was on the Big O show talking at length about it. Funny how no local person had a clue.

Good for Mario as local media is lazy, incompetent and often adversarial with the local team, backstabbing this program whenever national media jumps on us. They act line sheep to the national media, so they should be treated as such.
Having said this, if they weren't so lazy they could do some digging on this current hire or even get a handle on who Mario is talking to but, alas, better to be lazy and get paid.
