Mario tips off national reporters first

I was told last night the dc would be announced today. I posted that an hour before it was announced. I posted last night “Strong would not be the play caller going forward and Steele was not going to be the play caller next year. The speed of this hire would prove that”. Guidry did catch me off guard though.

Btw Campanelli was not a smoke screen . People hear names that Mario has spoken with and automatically think they’re the leader or think it’s for the position they assume. Mario has spoken to a lot of the names you’ve read but that was all it was. Candle like last year is the choice , it’s just a matter if he accepts.

Any chance Campanile comes on as a Co-DC/LB Coach? Dude was awesome for the Dolphins and was a finalist for their DC Job.

My question is, what caused Mario to sour on Steele? I mean, to have such a lengthy and deliberate interview process, you would think they were on the same page for the vision of the defense. Was Mario less than thrilled on Steele’s recruiting (or lack thereof), lack of connection to players, a combination of things, or did he always see this as a “prove it” or stopgap year since he lost out on primary targets? I’m more than happy with the Guidry hire, just wondering what went wrong with Steele.

When did he talk about it, after it was announced? That would be par for the course for him saying he knew things before it was announced...after it was announced.
CC there is no love between Manny N and M Cristobal..........tolerance but not inside info.

As Mario should. We're a national program that gets absolutely nothing beneficial from local media (relative to how those relationships work in a TON of other places). It's more beneficial to have a Bruce Feldman type appear on national programs and talk about us than to play footsie with local reporters/media and have them bury us the moment they think it'll get clicks or advance their own careers. ****, I'd start giving Josh Pate more "access" than I do anyone locally.
Donno does a pretty good job just reporting what he hears.

This comment epitomizes why this thread is stupid.
Of all the stupid threads on CIS, I just don't see how this one is worth calling out. OP thought it was worth mentioning. Some others agreed. Just let it fall to the bottom with all the rest of the unneeded ones. JMO

@Cribby

If Cande is option A, does Mario have B and C lined up?

Hopefully your Johns and Littrell post is a little hint

Makes me wonder if the Candle stuff is all a smoke screen and OC will be another name no one has discussed.
Mario runs such tight ship that to me unless Bruce Feldman tweets it , i do not believe it ???
replacement was fast wondering if he gave Gattis and Steele the same message during the season...... start looking for your next gig ???

So if Candle is interested and is an actual candidate for the ND job and they really want to interview Brian Johnson after the Super Bowl before making a decision, this could go on for at least another week. Perfect.

National guys do this for a living. They aren't cover a soccer team or Miami basketball on the side. They have a track record and some expertise, thus they are national and paid accordingly. They accumulate sources within athletic and coaching staffs over time, but a good bit of information comes from contacts developed with agents who prove a terrific source of info . . . it's good for business to get their coaches names out and about in the public conversations. Not many secrets in the coaching network and so their coaching clients will pass along the scuttlebutt. So, the local guys/gals are often playing catch up on this stuff.
