Anyone else got a bad taste that Mario didn't outright defend Cam in this scenario? I don't care what the reason was, even if he only played the half to break the record. A good coach defends his guys. There were plenty of statements he could have made:

- seeing what our remaining players looks like
-it was agreed before the game he'd only get a half
-praise that he even played at all

His non-statement is not only a bad look for Cam, but for Miami as well and just adds to all the asshats already looking for a reason to trash Miami. This was a huge negative to me and makes me wonder what his relationship is like with the locker room.

Nope. Cam is a paid player who made a business decision, he's not some "kid" needing defending. NIL changed everything; now these grown-*** men need to start standing behind their business decisions--especially in this era of CFB.

I don't disagree with that, but as a recruit, I will not go play for a coach who is hanging me out to dry when it's very obvious that this discussion was had prior to the game. Mario let the entire media run with the idea that Cam pulled himself out selfishly when he felt like it. The kid didn't have to play at all, but spotted us 31 points along with the #1 offense in the country for the season. As a coach, I'm taking all the heat for my guy and everyone can know this was a pre planned decision. Even something as simple as, my guy had a shot at the record, and I'm going to give him every chance at it, because he's earned it and keep him healthy for the draft once he's got it.

Those of us that have an old school team-first mentality are struggling to accept these "business decision" moves from NIL-era players now with opt-outs and such.

Go ahead and opt-out of cupcake games on the schedule while you're at it. Not a good "business decision" to play in those.
My counter to this is who makes that decision? Is that a HC decision, or did Cam just do what he wanted? If the HC allowed it, then defend it. I hate the modern culture of opting out, but after the season we just got from Cam and the fact he played at all and putting us in a position to win, you can just call me Mike Gundy.

This should have been Mario after the game.

cliff notes?
Basically, he doesn't like the modern culture but understands it. Also along the same sentiment, as a Miami fan, we should not be looking at the fact he stepped out of a meaningless bowl game, but that he was a big part of why we had a 10 win season and were in position to win and we should be upset at the defense and what the plan is there.

Also, we used to bowl game to see if we have our 2025 qb on the roster or not....and the bowl game showed we don't. Probably need to use the portal for that but the staff may feel otherwise.
