Look im not getting into this back and forth with folks wanting to bring up his Bama performance. Just like folks want to throw out the FSU tenure as an anamoly we can throw the Bama game out too.

When Briles has good players his offense works? Fair enough. The scheme isnt proven to even win conference titles yet. Im just in wait and see mode. Like I said, his comparison is "Mike D'Antoni" of college football. Thats not bad. That aint great either.

LOL. I read the board just like you do man. Im no insider. People have been throwing Dorsey and Mullens name around so ****, I did too.

Before the "What dont you like about Briles?! His offense always produces!!" folks come jump down my throat again.. While I think his offense could win the ACC (especially in down years)..I have a hard time with the fact that it could not get us the big prize when we run into legit defensive minds. Hes the "Mike D'Antoni" of college football. Looks great in the regular season until you hit the playoffs and run into the real defensive minds then its one big flop after another. Say what you want about his FSU tenure and yes I know that was 2 years ago..but Manny Diaz completely shut that offense down. And Manny's defense is thought of as a gimmicky clown show on this board so what does that make Briles scheme? Just sayin.

That said, Plan A (Brady) and Plan B (Dorsey or Mullen) seem to be pretty much dead so bring me Briles and lets hope for the best!

I agree with 90% of what you’re thinking, based on the candidates. I have my reservations too about his offense vs. legit contenders, but I offer 3 points to think about with regards to the FSU game you referenced.
1. Manny’s scheme is about creating chaos and getting penetration upfield. Gap discipline be damned. It’s feast or famine. Which is why it looked like *** vs. ANY team with a disciplined OL, AND an OC with a clue.
2. That was the worst OL FSU has had since it was a woman’s college. It flat out sucked.
3. If his OL sucked, then his QBs swallowed. There was no way in ****, he could make us pay for being outta position.
In all… Briles is not a bad fall back option.

He may have learned that from Butch, he was a GA under him from 98 to 00.

Conference titles as in plural? Because FAU won their conference with Briles as OC in 2017

Mullet hardly was raised at all. Briles was really the next one speculated on.

I agree with you in part; not that everyone needs to be filled out (not even close) but if Salave'a is the guy for Dline (for example), you'd think getting him on board before ESD would help with guys like Moss. Maybe Mario is enough.

The thing that would bother me most is other schools getting a head start per say; if we start seeing Clemson, Florida, USC, OU and FSU (primarily OC) fill up their coaching staffs, then the longer we wait, the worse it could be. There's a balance between getting the right guy, and waiting for the possibility to get the right guy.

In the end, however, Mario understands all of this, and I'm sure things are being worked behind the scenes that cannot be leaked just yet.

Well we scored 21 points this week, including a TD in the 3Q - so no worse than with Brady. In fact 2 points more than we scored against the Falcons earlier in the year.

For as much as people concerned about posting on the right threads this thread completely went South. Mario spent no time talking about assistant coaches yet this turns into the hundreds of threads dedicated to a OC. Mario is laying out a foundation for kids to get behind yet that cannot gain any traction. Please take your OC concerns to the right threads…Thank you.

So u’re good w/ that? I think u’re missing the point that maybe Joe isn’t the problem. As a Bears fan, trust me when I tell u when an “offensive” minded coach is leading ur team & it’s subpar offensively, there’s a good chance that the HC is the problem.

True. He mentioned Saban in an interview though regarding learning how to run an entire program during this era, which he described as being totally different than the past.
