Mario Cristobal offers no discernable advantage

You get a lot of **** from people when you say things like this and they go “YOU LOWERED YOUR EXPECTATIONS!”

And pound the table like Miami in the early 2000s wasn’t some complete anomaly that will never happen here again

It’s like yeah I lowered my expectations. 20 years will do that. It’s been nothing but half assed band aids for two decades. I’m an infrastructure guy and we are much much further along there. Watching college football since NIL became a thing we could have easily been left behind

But this is obviously another huge offseason for the team. Everyone is getting pillaged in the portal and we chose to take a step back in recruiting to attack the portal. Dangerous game but I am cautiously optimistic
I don't think anyone is going on a run like Miami or even Bama in this NIL era so people have to adjust their expectations based on the current era. BUT my expectations have always been play to your level. We play down way too many times and it's because of coaching. We can have a roster littered with 5 stars at everyone position and with Mario as a coach I would expect us to have a head scratching loss.

I agree. Common theme for 20+ years is playing down and that hasn’t changed at all with Mario

Which is what the whole OP was basically about

Still can’t beat the ACC teams we need to beat

Why?

This is an ignorant post.

You know what advantage Mario brings? The people with all the money at Miami he is tight with.

You want to see a completely irrelevent program like weve been past 20 years? Send Mario packing. If Mario isnt successful here, then good luck.

Miami was butter soft on a warm summer day when Mario got here. Mentally and physically. Terrible culture. 6'1 290 OL, devoid of real talent. He is trying to build Miami up to a top 10 program in a world that is run by SEC and BIG 10. His job has gotten harder.

I know this, in last 2 years we havent been beaten in trenches much at all when it was a regular occurance prior to him. Physically we hold up and beat most anyone we play at LOS. So I would say he has brought some advantage.

I am at 100% in agreement with the bold part. How people don’t understand this is insane work.

For all the people low key hoping Mario fails, be careful what you wish for because if he does then I don’t want to think about where football on the priority list would be for the school.

And that is pathetic and also proves that nothing has really changed with the administration at Miami. Very few, if any, are hoping Mario fails. He does that all on his own. He is not Manny - where people legit rooted against him from the jump because Mario did not get the job. The majority here want wins above anything else and do not really care who the head coach is.

It would be nice for Mario to win. It is a great story. That is in his hands, but as the OP points out, he adds very little value.

Has anyone that’s ever been mentioned besides Mario made you jealous that we didn’t hire him?

Your question warrants a longer and more well thought out response, but in short if we are looking at being "jealous" I would look at the administration and commitment, including the hiring process --- the process since the players hired Coker to Randy to Retiring Richt to bringing Manny back from Temple to Mario and only Mario to Morris to Gino to JD is just lazy, inept and awful. Then you look at Rad, and the football building. Less smoke and mirrors, more unarguable commitment to being a well run athletic program at the high D1 level.

Coaches --- this board is horrible about actual discussion of other coaches, but someone like @Memnon could probably name a solid dozen coaches across different levels doing more with less, etc.

despite the supposed advantages in recruiting, we still busted that 23 class so far and were literally where we were under manny for a lot more money spent

I disagree

But you’re the same guy that was telling me Dawson is never prepared even though we are by far the best offense in the country starting games

Your takes have been increasingly wild so do your thing

do you think the number 1 offense is due to Dawson or Cam Ward? Weve had a great elite offense led by a star QB but we also had massive lulls due to play calling in every game on offense. you thought the offense was perfect bc of dawson?

you do you then bc that 23 class is pretty awful looking at it now. we are literally the same as manny record wise in 3 years under mario. we had a star QB carry us to our best season just like King carried manny. the defense still sucks. so whats different?

22-15 mario
21-15 manny (one game was cancelled due to COVID).
Yeah the part I had talked about earlier in the thread was I thought we were recruiting and attracting better players and have a better foundation (NIL and support for the program)

BUT like you said in another thread the schedule gets tougher and no Cam

One year from now I could feel totally different this offseason/season is HUGE for Mario (obviously)

ok I can agree with that. we recruited better for sure and I cant argue otherwise. the key now is development which we havent done. hopefully 24 turns out better than 23

Manny and Mario are definitely different type of guys but like you’re saying, if it ends up in the same place then who cares? With this investment we need to be significantly better than we were with Manny and it hasn’t happened yet
