Major Applewhite (not Kiffin) to Houston

According to ESPN, Les Miles didn't even make the cut to the final three:

"Athletic director Hunter Yurachek and board of regents chair Tilman J. Fertitta will meet with Khator to discuss the three coaches who have emerged as finalists -- Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, Houston offensive coordinator Major Applewhite and Houston defensive coordinator Todd Orlando."

Aside from Tony Levine, Houston's had, Art Briles, Kevin Sumlin, Tom Herman and now Lane Kiffin. I think they're fine with being a stepping stone if it means winning 9-12 games every year.

Whoever the next coach is, Houston is trying to require an excessive buyout so he can't leave after a couple of seasons without paying a substantial penalty, a source said.

They gonna end up firing this guy in a few seasons anyway. Idk why they'd bother w that kinda language.

thats the good thing about Richt being OC, we won't get poached and put our QB's have different coordinators every 2 years

That is going to be a disaster. The minute he steps foot on campus, he'll be looking to move on to something bigger and better

You could've said the same for Herman.

Except Herman is actually a good coach and left them better off. Do you think they will be able to say the same for Kiffin?

I have no idea how Kiffin will do, but Herman was looking to move the second he got to Houston, which was the point you were making.

If your going to coach a non p5 team, Houston is arguably the best one to coach

How about the 3 that finished above them in their own division in their own conference?

Big tv market, big fan base, great recruiting grounds. Better job than the three that did better this year.

They do not have a big fan base. Their biggest crowd last year was 42,000. They hosted the AAC Conference title game last year and had 35,000. They barely sellout their 42,000 seat stadium, and when they're not winning they draw 10,000. I went to a Tulane-Houston game in college in the Astrodome where Tulane beat them by 40+ and there were 5,000 Tulane fans there and 6 Houston fans. Not 6,000. 6. 75% of Houston is UT or A&M.

Make sure he takes Mario with him!!!! Don't need him in Tuscaloosa anymore

I was just thinking that. If you're Luigi do you go there for a bump in salary and the Thomas Brown type title? He'll never be OC at Bama and his name isn't even mentioned for openings now (aside from by Bruce Feldman). That's assuming Monte's son would even want him though. You'd probably be better off trying to get a Texas guy for that role as you're now at a severe recruiting disadvantage with Herman down the street in Austin and you ain't convincing Florida kids to go to Houston.

Gonna try that Arkansas State approach after they lost 3 or 4 HCs in the span of 4 years. That will limit the pool of candidates to guys who are good with staying at a G5 job for an extended period.

Beanerdict Arnold is a scumbag traitor, but he's not stupid. He's a shrewd climber. No way in **** he goes from Alabama to Houston to be an assistant coach no matter what title he is given.

I'd agree with that but at what point does a guy like him (probably with an overinflated sense of self worth) get antsy that he's not going anywhere beyond the parking lot to take Saban's car for a wash & wax? He's not moving up the pecking order there and their next OC along with Pruitt will get any job offers he probably thinks he deserves. Going there was a scumbag move that I'll never forgive him for but some made the case that it was a smart career move yet at some point he's going to be there TOO long too when he's just permanently deemed a positions corch that can recruit.
