Didn't Smith commit to Richt while he was still HC at UGA?
Smith and Shyheim Carter are close. That's another angle to take into account for Bama.

I live in SEC country in Alabama and word is Kiffin to Houston will be announced by end of the week. If Kiffin goes to Houston, I think that puts Miami in the lead for Smith.

Chise, can you think of the last big recruit we landed from deep in SEC country? I'm thinking bailey was the last one. Before him, I can't think of anyone.
Akiem Jolla out of Louisiana 2002 I think he was #2 or 3 WR in the country
He shortly transfered out
Yep, good call
Was Reggie Wayne highly rated?
From what I recall, No - he was a 2/3 star kind of kid.
I'm not sure people realize how hard it probably is to pick Miami when bama comes knocking. Even hometown kids have to feel good when saban sits in their living room and says "we're the best and we want you". It doesn't make sense to us for a guy to go to a situation where he's behind a bunch of other 5* kids, but even adults are flattered by that kind of attention. Kids say it's business, but it's not. It's psychology.
The vets here know the ending to this movie.Come NSD and Smith signs with LSU or Bama we're going to get the we were in great shape for months but in the end the pull to play for the home team or play for the National champs was too much to overcome and followed wiith we should be happy with this class considering the season we had,2018 is the class to get us back.
Agreed. Unless Richt and the staff have some tricks up their sleeves, whomever we've been in contact with the most will most likely end up here. With what Pete has given us, we should close with Slaton, Herbert, Harley, Edwards, McKitty, McFarland, and DE. Top 15 finish.
Definite top 5-10 class in 18'.
I dont want to hear top 5 next year we always hear the same ****. We should have top 5 to top 3 yearly based on location alone...no excuses
Top 5 every annually is unrealistic at this point in time. Richt inherited a weak Golden-ized team and has/had to repair a lot of partnerships locally and nationally. The school doesn't have the alumni, money, or recent success like say a Michigan, Bama, Clemson, or FSU to just sell itself. The coaches have to work twice as hard compared to their peers. Not to mention that we haven't won the conference, our division for that matter, or 9+ games in over 12 years.
Its not something that will just happen. Its going to take time and winning to erase the negative image that we've had out of recruits' minds.

If Kiffin goes to Houston, Saban will replace him with Steve Sarkisian..
Bama even stacks chips on coaching staffs.![]()
Study history. It has a way of repeating itself. Ed O is a monster recruiter, and he'll make a splash OC hire. He's also got bags. Bama is Bama.
These blue chip dudes in that neck of the woods are nearly impossible to grab. There's always some reason in the end just like with Holloman.
If we want a shot at those types we need to be the hot program again or hand out bags. In the meantime, the killer is losing so many LOCAL hosses like Jeudy.

Dobard was a consensus 4* TE if I'm not mistaken...even though he hasn't amounted to anything

I was being funny.

It$ a bu$ine$$ too, believe that.
Wins and championships are huge, no doubt, but they don't make ALL 4-5 star kids leave their family and comfort zone hundreds / thousands of miles away to go to a school they have never even been to in many instances.
Kids like Jeudy would be home in Miami all things being equal.......unfortunately equal is a pipe dream.
UM
When it comes to WR's & CB's, I don't trust this staff's confidence about any prospect...This staff's "quiet confidence" don't mean jack ****...
Bama has had the lead with Smith for months, only recently has LSU gained traction... Miami been in 3rd for a long time.
And before vern even attempts to troll me, check the threads, I been saying Smith to Bama for months...
But what if they're right for the confidence? Not saying what's going to happen I have no idea but every year including this year everybody picks multiple guys that have no chance to here and they come. Not saying you're wrong just they can't be that dumb at wr and smart everywhere else
Look, I hope we get Smith, so I'm not saying it in a negative way... But from everything I've read, Bama has had the lead with Smith for a long time.
Just recently Smith & Moses both visited LSU together, from an LSU writer the thing that he pointed out in his article was that Smith & Moses were both being recruited by Eddy O as Bama recruits... That let me know all I needed to know.
It would be great to land the kid, but it's just unrealistic thus far... He's only visited once for the UNC game & idk if Duggans has had his in-home with him yet, but compared to how often he visits Bama, doesn't look good for us.
You are aware he lives pretty close to bama right opposed to pretty **** far from us. My most obvious critique to what you said though relates to your lack of confidence for wr & CB for this staff... why exactly is that considering this staff hasn't been able to prove anything one way or another. Good or bad until signing day gets here... you're gonna sit back & critique the staff because you haven't heard enough publicly about our efforts? Pete's already told yall some of the people were on were staying quiet about until it's time. Do you honestly think we'll I'm hearing next to nothing concerning either of those positions so clearly they're just sitting back collecting a check doing nothing? AGAIN KIDS LOVE DUGANS,FAMILIES LOVE DUGANS. Mike gets alot of respect on the trail & is well liked. Doesn't make sense how fans of ours just sit back & hope we fail... try positive energy. It's amazing how that works. El this isn't just to you but in general. Also you gotta remember first off recruiting is a very fluid situation. You're dealing with sought after kids & their emotions & egos with grown ups with endless money pulling them in different directions. College football is a huge business for these universities, etc. Never forget things can change from one second to the next.
