My gut feeling tells me two issues were in play.
1. Mrs. Golden loves south Florida Miami Area.
2. Golden and Dorito were a package deal and PSU said we want you not your side kick.
Too much smoke here. Sounds like Al may have said he needed time to sleep on it (very Golden) and sometime today backed out. If they don't hire Munchak, Franklin, or Johnson you know PSU got rejected. True story will likely come out.
He was never offered the job. End of story.
From what I was told...
PSU wanted to hire Golden but they told him that they didn't want D'Onofrio as the DC. Golden wouldn't have it. It was a done deal if it wasn't for that.
If this is true then we are completely ****ed.From what I was told...

It's idiotic to say something that conclusive. In fact, if you read what the only two rational posters here they are connected to PSU have said, he absolutely was offered the job.
It would be very surprising for a team to not only engage first with a guy who isn't their #1 target, but to fly a plane full if big shots down to Miami when his agent is in PA? I think he was offered.
LULZ at Al's Army coming out in force after he slimed his way back into town like a fat oozing snail.
Here are the facts:
1. He disappeared for about 3 days on the eve of UM's EEs enrolling and in the 11th hour of the normal recruiting cycle;
2. He interviewed with Ped State;
3. He didn't have to interview with Ped State;
4. He didn't deny wanting the Ped State job until after it was apparent Ped State was interviewing other candidates today.
5. Recruits, commits and players were publicly expressing fear and doubt about him leaving;
6. He did nothing to alleviate any of those doubts until 3 days later;
7. Valentine de-committed during his dalliance with Ped State.
Why would an employed HC interview with another program and go dark for 3 days and risk losing recruits, risk alienating his current players, and lose a lot of support from UM fans if he didn't want the job that he was interviewing for? Why put yourself through all that if you didn't want the job? Wouldn't be easier for the HC and cause a lot less of the headaches I listed to just refuse the interview if you didn't want the job?
That fat flop sweater wanted that job. And none of you boot lickers will ever convince me otherwise. Use your heads for something other than a receptacle for Al's putz.

I just don't buy this. You don't offer a position as HC and tell the guy who will and wont be on his staff. If you have to do that, he isn't the right guy to begin with.

There is no ****ing chance in a million years that Golden allowed the world to speculate he was interested in the PSU job without dispelling such speculation; that he flew to PSU to interview for a job the weekend before early enrollees start at UM, knowing that the media and 2014 recruits would be alerted as to this interview; that he received an offer; and that, then, over a cup of port, he and his wife decided that they'd rather stay in UM because they like the weather down here.
There are two possibilities:
1) He interviewed with them and they either outright told him he would not be receiving an offer or, and this is my theory, Golden set a deadline for PSU's offer for today in the afternoon, in advance of his media session tomorrow in Miami, and they told him that they could not make him an offer before interviewing Munchak, etc.
2) He received an offer, but, as Wildcat says above, it was contingent upon his not bringing alone his boyfriend. aka, the worst defensive coordinator in the history of football.
IMO, the former is by far the most likely of the two. It's unlikely that PSU made him a contingent offer with respect to firing D'Onofrio. In the end, Golden needed a quick answer from PSU, but, because of our team's performance in the second half of this season, including the Rape of Orlando, he was not a surefire choice and they wanted to perform further due diligence on him and, most important, on other candidates.
The bottom line, we're ****ed until he leaves. He is one of the worst gameday coaches I've ever seen, even worse than Shannon. What UL did to us, after a month of preparation, was both completely inexplicable and illuminating. UL had tougher games against UConn and all of the other clown schools in its conference. Same story with VT, Duke, etc. Golden is a strong recruiter because he's organized, hard-working, and persistent. But, in the end, who cares if he can't take that talent and channel it into actual on-field results? This was a very bad day for UM football. Very bad.

Agree 100%.
And everybody inside of the program knows it.
Now he's gotta go back to Miami and face those kids. SMH
Good luck getting them to buy-in now.
