Louisville defense has been weak against running QBs

Maybe I have my orange and green glass on but I think the VT and Cal games were close due to correctable mistakes.

VT we had the 3 turnovers coupled with about 110 yds in returns.

Cal was like 4 big plays that hopefully were looked at 1000 times during the bye and are limited going forward.

Bro, all u did was add context to my QP. Lol. Every team can say they have “correctable mistakes;” literally, every coach in America at HT when interviewed say the same thing on what needs to be corrected when they are down.

My point is, we need to go back to sound, fundamental football. Cam needs to go back to taking what the defense gives him, & not hold on to the ball too long, better utilize our run game to keep the defense honest, & our defense needs to play w/ sound technique, not falling for the eye candy and better communication on the backend.

Ward already surpassed his rushing total in 2022 and 2023. 2022 107 rushes 5 tds, 2023 120 rushes 144 yards 8 tds, 2024 28 rushes 161 yards 3 tds.

People are acting soft shouldred about cam running… we aren’t asking him to be a battering ram like Josh Allen

Just enough to keep the defense honest when they fail to account for him and pick up the easy 5-10 yards. Cam is smart he’s been great about finding the sideline and getting down before contact
💯

Agreed

Ward needs to remember that even his check down guys can make plays. Martinez and Fletcher are excellent in open field and have made huge plays when dialed up. If we win turnover battle we should win handily.
Yes protect our defense, don’t put them in tough positions. Don’t take unnecessary risks. Play complimentary football and we don’t keep this game close

Even though the defense has been crappy the past two weeks. I still believe we’re capable of putting together a good to great day of defensive football.

At the end of the day College football is wide open this year. I haven’t seen not ONE juggernaut this season. All of the touchdowns given up the past few weeks were quick strikes due to bad assignment ball. I think that can be fixed. It would be different if we were getting taken to the woodshed and pounded into submission.

I still believe in Guidry and the guys.

We’ve got 4 games on deck before Bye #2, and this game is super important. We need to come out strong and hungry and bury Lville to send a message to FSU and Duke that we are back on track and full strength.

Treat these 4 games with the focus and urgency of a new season, then we will be in a great spot.

We get to 10-0 then good things happen.

Cam isn't a running QB, though. He's a capable runner, but seems to be at his best when a play breaks down. He only gained 128 yards rushing this season. TBH, I'm not sure I want him toting the pill as part of our game plan. The less contact he takes, the better, because we should be able to pic Louisville apart offensively.

My main concern is Brohm ****ing Guidry down and giving our defense fits.
They are going to score plenty of points. We'll score more. The 61 O?U is goinfg to get crushed

I'm banking on the rest week providing our DL with the time needed to recover and recharge for this week's showdown in Louisville. If they play to their potential, it'll take some pressure off our LBs and DBs.

I fully expect Brohm to scheme up a solid game plan; solid defensive line play is imperative, as that is our strength on the defensive side of the ball.
Having the D line fully back is huge. Going to have a lot of reps and need the depth

So basically repeat the good plays and eliminate the bad ones. Sounds like a plan

On the flip side, if Cam takes easy yards instead of looking to pass for more, extending drives can keep their offense off the field. I think that was a problem against Cal.

Take what they give you. This Louisville team is deeply flawed and they will have to pick their poison against our offensive unit.

I feel better about this game than I did heading into the previous two ballgames.

Our dominance in this game will not be determined by our offence.

Disagree. I think the dominance is almost entirely in the hands of the offense. If the offense is misfiring again in the first half, we have a dogfight til the end. If the offense plays well in the first half , we end up winning by at least 2 scores.

VT game, first series ends with fumble. VT only has to go 35 yards or so to score a TD. Miami answers with a TD, then also gets the inevitable George personal foul penalty. The Miami D then gets a pick. UM gets ball at 50 yd line and scores a TD. Defense forces punt on next VT series.

Up 14-7, looks like we are on good shape. What happens next? Ward INT in the red zone. Big momentum shift. VT then scores a TD to tie it up( UM d even forces a fumble just before the big VT run, but they recovered it ). Next UM series ends in punt. VT scores a legit TD after driving length of field ( Should have been 21-14 Miami even with that Td) Next UM possession is another punt. VT gets ball again and D holds them, but the VT kicker nails a 57 yarder.

Cam doesn’t throw that INT in the red zone, we go into halftime with a 21-17 lead. Instead it’s 24-17 VT with them getting the kickoff to start the 2nd half.

This is the perfect week for our best defensive performance of the year

Yup, best cure for what ails our defense is playing from ahead. Score early and often and limit turnovers on offense, and board will be back to singing Guidry's praises

Just to add- that first fumble in the VT, it was mostly Wards fault. The OL actually gave him 4 full seconds before he left the pocket and stepped in the sack. That offensive mistake led to 7 pts. If the Offense plays well in the first half , I think the defense will also play well.
