Louis Riddick thinks Lance Guidry was out schemed by Georgia Tech

GaTech was the worst game of the season by a large margin, anyone that’s played or coached football could see Miami defense was at a disadvantage simply by alignment

PLUSSSSS many times our DEs were crashing inside on top of being out leveraged

I legitimately would love to hear Guidry explain the strategy behind his game plan

He's definitely gonna be asked about it LOL

I'll watch the whole thing later.

I'm sure it's horrible.

I just need someone to explain to me how Guidry went 30 years without ever seeing motion.

It's not like he's some dinosaur who hasn't seen all of the concepts of the past 10-15 years.

It makes zero sense, which is why I think "he's an idiot" is too simplistic.

He probably wasn't as good as we last year, and he's not as bad as we're seeing this year.

I've just seen this movie too many times.

Again, maybe he sucks and Mario will fire him. But even if he does, we should not be trotting out G5 transfers at every level of the defense.
When I see simple **** like we cant line, constant confusion, wide open busted coverage, no setting of edge, being out leveraged weeks on end I dont see those things as talent issue. We are confused and beat at snap of ball wayyyyyy too many times. Haynes King had negative yards for ball traveled when he passed..

He couldnt throw and we NEVER dared him to, never switched looks, just lined up in same BS and said play harder.. Too many easy yards and they were a banged up team..

lol we are misaligned at snap. that isnt a talent issue. that is a coaching issue.
it makes no sense. These same players - with a few substitutions due to injury- have been playing in the same defense for 3 months. Suddenly they don't know how to line up?

Who has the helmet communication? Kiko? Isn't that his job to communicate the play call and he and Meesh get everyone set up?
Isn't that the reason, the experience, these guys are brought in?

Last year Kam had the back end. Maybe it's time to make someone else the "captain" on the field and take some of the responsibility off of Kiko and Powell.....

they haven't lined up correctly all year

I haven't rewatched the game, but from my recollection, we were springing leaks everywhere.

NOTHING was working.

Seemed like we were stunting to take away the QB draws that were hurting us, but that left us exposed on the edges.

DBs were triggering late and whiffing.

We couldn't get through the wash in man.

We were turning guys loose in zone.

It was all bad.

Guidry is the DC so of course he deserves the blame.

My point is that he's proven he can be good here. We were solid on defense last year with duct tape and bubble gum.

He was forced to use Corey Flagg at edge.

I have a hard time believing he's suddenly a bumbling idiot. I need somebody to explain that to me.

I get the argument that there's more film out there or that Kam Kinchens supposedly broke the defense to cover up for him.

That just seems too convenient for the "he's an idiot" argument.

Maybe he is. Either way, we need more guys like OJ Frederique out there.

Very True, but that is not always the case, 100% of the time. Part of being a really good football player is being able to think. Some of the best football players have been smart guys, maybe not the strongest, biggest (pause for you "ayooo" muhfuccas, :ROFLMAO: ), most athletically gifted, but guys that can think and perform under pressure. Ever wondered why our FRESHMAN CB #29 (OJF), is hardly ever outta position? It's definitely not because he's being coached by Nick Saban. Now If they hadn't lined up in practice to the GTech formations, then that's on coaching. But I'm telling you, SOMETIMES you have **** figured out, but kids fucc it up, by misaligning, making the wrong call, getting into the wrong checks, for the situation. I'm not absolving Guidry and staff here, at all... because whether it's his scheme, or kids ******** up, it ultimately all falls on him...cause he's the man running the ****. The continuous twisting of our fronts while ****** running the ball, or scrambling outside of the twists over and over, and not having edge players at the point of contact is inexcusable. Get the **** fixed, or GTFOH

There’s too many fundamental issues with our defense to just blame it on lack of talent. It doesn’t take first round talent to line up correctly. It doesn’t take first round talent to know where the sticks are on third down and to drop accordingly. It doesn’t take first round talent to set the edge and funnel the runner back towards the middle. This is fundamental stuff that every high school kid learns. I get it, there’s only so much you can expect with mediocre players but basic fundamentals is one of the things you can.
We have dumb players....case in point the last 1st down by GT not only did we lined up wrong we also left a player uncovered. I don't care if that uncovered player is a WR RB or OL the LB should of not went out to cover that player it should have been that DB. For whatever reason the DB refused to go out to cover that player and that DB stood there on the sweep player and got the 1st down. GAME OVER!!

Why would the better tackler go cover the outside WR and the better cover player stay inside. It's almost like these dumb *** players don't want to be the blame for winning or losing a game or are too disconnected from the game.

You can't be going through the motion at The University of Miami....if you not taking this **** seriously then go find some where to play.

No, that was the Broyles shortlist from last year when Guidry was the savior and everyone was saying give him a blank check.

THIS year, he's the village idiot.

Whether or not Guidry is retained next year, I'm more concerned that we close on this '25 class and land at least one of Ben Hanks and DJ Pickett.
Ohhhhhhhhh! Whew thank you brother for that correction. I read (quickly and wrongly) and reacted. Guess that’s par for the course regarding Guidry. Let me check my eligibility.

So the entire front 7 is continuously misaligned because of recruiting? We’re supposedly recruiting a different type of player, and built a great culture… but they’re all too dumb to grasp the coaching?

Something’s definitely off, and it’s probably a bit of everything.

We can make the “South Florida kids are raw and stupid argument” but almost the entire first string defense isn’t from SoFla.

This scheme is definitely confusing this team and the entire defensive staff is having a hard time teaching it and making it stick.

This level of visible dysfunction is deep rooted. Even my wife is asking wtf is going on when our defense is arguing and bumping into each other after a basic motion.

Linebacker Denzel Perryman and defensive end Anthony Chickillo both defended D’Onofrio’s schemes and said it’s up to the players to execute what he calls. “Coach D is one of the best football minds I’ve been around,” Chickillo said. “He probably is the best football mind. His football IQ is unbelievable, and he puts us in the right position to make plays. People just have to make them.” Said Perryman: “It’s not coach, man. I ain’t going to lie. I try to ignore the outside noise, but when I hear stuff like that it bothers me a lot. It’s not coach, you know. Coach D’Onofrio does a great job putting us in the best [positions] and the best situations where we need to be. It’s just up to us to execute. We had a lot of freelancing going on.

I'm just over it.

We. Do. This. Every. Time.

People were literally saying we should pay Guidry a blank check.

But now after 30 years of coaching, he doesn't know how to get a defense lined up.

Look, it's possible Guidry has no plan against motion after 30 years of coaching. Or maybe there are other things going on, such as inexperienced/bad safeties.

You saw how terrible we were at passing off guys in zone. Maybe that's why we have been playing so much man.

"He needs to teach it better!"

Maybe.

Or maybe Jaden Harris just isn't good.

I want to reiterate that I don't care one way or the other if Guidry gets fired.

I just think we have to get out of this cycle of coaches being saviors or village idiots.

I mean, Al freaking Golden is currently coordinating a top 5 defense.

There are truly elite coaches and truly bad coaches. But most are somewhere in the middle.

I think Guidry is somewhere in the middle.

Even if we hire some wizard, the talent level has to improve if we want to compete at high levels.

When I see simple **** like we cant line, constant confusion, wide open busted coverage, no setting of edge, being out leveraged weeks on end I dont see those things as talent issue. In my experience when teams starts ******* up very simple stuff it is not because the coach doesn't know the basics it is because he is trying to be too galaxy brained and the players can't execute what he is trying to do.

Sort of like at the end of Jimbo's tenure he said he ran the same plays as everyone else in the SEC but his terminology and approach and process didn't click with other QBs the way they clicked with Jameis.

Almost everyone's scheme works on paper when executed perfectly by the players, a big thing in college coaching is being able to actually teach and install your system in a repeatable way that doesn't need players with outlier IQ or measurables every year.

Hopefully Guidry is just trying to do too much and it really is true that we can switch to a symmetrical cover 3 match and limit exposure to things our players are struggling with.

Josh Pate said on his show re:Bama that they took the Bye week to evaluate what they are and are not and lean in to what they are, hopefully this Canes team can do something like that.

There was a lot of ****ery with this performance but they did get 35% of their rushing yards on their 2 longest carries. Plenty of stuff that can be cleaned up if Guidry earns his paycheck.
