When Miami is a top 10 defense. I know all the issues we've had this year, but I can assure you that coach Golden and staff are well aware. Calling for D'Onofrio head is premature considering the personel on that side of the ball. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I understand the frustration , but I'm willing to bet the house next year you'll see vastly improvement in all areas.

Golden gives every indication that he's a loyal person, don't expect him to be loyal to Miami, but disloyal to his long time friend. What you see is what you get.

There's lots of work to be done, and a top 10 defense may not happen till year four, however top 25 is not out of the question.

We're not going to be a top 25 defense next year because our offense will be entirely too fast-paced for those kind of defensive stats.

I'm on record as saying that, despite having a potential Ferrari of an offense, IF Porter stays and we don't get destroyed by multiple DL injuries, we'll jump into the Top 40 next year.

I'm more concerned with scoring defense than total defense. I don't mind an defense giving up some yards--but don't give up points.

The goal next year for this defense should really be top 50 in total defense and Top 25 in scoring defense. With our offense, if we can do those two things, we'll be **** tough to beat.

color me very skeptical that the Defense will be very good. I would expect them to improve since we are one of the worst in the nation. question is how much can they improve?

A sign of a good coach is that he still manages to get better play from his unit as the season goes on. This defense was just as awful against Duke as it was against BC. Who got better? Perryman was always good, Chick regressed, Rogers and Highsmith never improved,Howard didn't produce, not one single pass rusher emerged, blown assignments, blown leads, frantic play, chaos before the snap. I could go one but it too sickening to detail.

Youth and talent aside, 2 years is well enough time for an evaluation on a coach and O'No D needs to go.

As for your top 10 or top 25 wishes, shows me you have no clue.

CAN'T WAIT to look silly..

I think people are skeptical of D'Onofrio because, even with a young D, he looks like he's just calling random plays instead of adjusting to the opposing O.

I'd love to be wrong but after watching this season I have a hard time believing anything other than loyality is the reason he'll always be our DC.

People seem to forget we were tied for 17th in the nation in scoring defense last season (giving up 20pts/game). We gave up 10pts/game more this season with the same coaches and same scheme. How do you explain that except it being a personnel issue?

When we grow up and get a DL we'll be back up there, we just didn't have the personnel this year (especially with injuries).

I'm predicting a jump into the top 30 because our schedule doesn't look too tough.

I pretty much agree with everything you said. Im thinking about 8 or 9 wins next season because the youth we have and that first class was a two week scramble to sign anyone we had a shot at. The defense will not be improved with freshman Dlineman coming in and throwing them in the fire there first year. The year for us is 2014 when Bush and company are seniors hopefuly we will have depth. thats the year im realistically looking foward to unless the NCAA rapes us. If they do then expectations should go way down for this fan base. You cant call for coaches heads in a situation like we are in right now. Lets just see what happens with that first. I think Al and his budy will get it done if they recruit and stack multiple positions, but dont expect Bryant Bostwick to be all americans in year one.

Someone go look at Temple's defensive ranks from year 1 to when golden and D'onof left. There's a clear trajectory of improvement.. I don't think it was just luck that made their defenses consistently better from one year to the next.

agree Lu that fast pace offense kills defenses, the Ducks will never win with that offense. i would love to run our offense like Bama that why Alex Colins is crucial to this class. We need a bruiser big time.

I doubt we are better than 75th in the nation in defense next season.

But had we at least been 75th in the nation this season...........we'd have won vs UVA and FSU

do you really want to run a bama offense? with our current defense? no thanks.. i don't care at all for forcing the run game.. we had to do it last year because our QB would have thrown double the picks if he had more pass attempts. The offense should be predicated on our players, and what they do well... our run blocking wasn't as dominant as people make it out to be.. and running it for the sake of a "commitment" to the run. is just retarded. If you run well, then you run more, if you pass better, then don't force the run.. if you have a nasty *** defense, a la bama, then you can get away with ball control and what not.. when you don't, you have to score.

There is no one on the DL. The recruiting situation on the line was so bad, I don't think we recover next year. At least another few recruiting classes. Only Jucos can salvage the depth issue up front. Sorry to repeat, but Shannons recruiting was disasterous and left the new regime in a huge hole.

I'm on the Top 50 total defense in 2013 train.

There aren't any Notre Dames or Kansas State's on the schedule to blow Miami out next year, even if there is zero improvement of individual play (which is unlikely).

We have some players......but they were in highschool playoffs less than 6 months ago.

Not gonna win many games with highschool standouts on D their first season.

Eddie Johnson was a terrible undersized LBer a year ago. A redshirt year later and he is a goon not to be ***ked with
