Look to the Transfer Portal: Discussion thread

Why would they have less money? The money we are talking about is not currently in the program. You are treating this like a reallocation.
You think in this scenario people currently donating to the current setup wouldn’t instead donate to specific players?

Yea but what if said Moore isn’t interested in Miami? You’re just not going to donate?
Let me see if a different example can help yall understand.

I currently donate a monthly amount.

I'm extremely excited to get a player like Silver, Mateer, or Barion Brown. I would literally drop $5k EXTRA right now for those players. This doesn't mean i want to increase my monthly donation. It's literally, the excitement of specific players would drive ppl to drop more money.

CFB is so fvcked that every day fans need to donate to 18 year old kids salaries for the program to stay relevant. Worst run sport in the entire world. This sport needs some sort of salary cap, but unfortunately that won’t stop the under the table money. Not even sure this sport is fixable anymore.

Speaking for myself I'd be alot more inclined if I knew we were prioritizing Jerome Myles over Vernell Brown.
I think this would be a great idea in-season to determine who proactively gets more money for existing players. Players doing good, we all up his NIL bag for the following season if he stays.

Players not doing good wouldn’t. lol

I think you are giving too much credit to the fanbase. At the end of the day the billionaires are the ones that move the needle. In this scenario do you think that the people already donating would be inclined to donate more?

I’m not acting like anyone is entitled to anything at all. The fact that college football programs have somehow passed the cost of labor direct to consumers is ******* ridiculous.

But from a realistic standpoint what’s being suggested leads to fans dictating who staffs prioritize. There’s an argument to be made that based on the current setup that makes sense, since fans are the ones paying. You’re right, it’s the people’s money. But realistically you’d be handicapping staffs into going for the guys the fans want if you do that. If we think coaches are bolting due to the system now, let that become the norm and let’s see who sticks around.
I like your rebuttal. Best worded counter argument so far.

We can get into market economics and how this would literally be the market just becoming more accurate and transparent and also how coaching staffs are already handicapped (except for about 20 schools). But I don't want to fully hijack this thread.

I do appreciate your response tho.

Exactly, the fans that are still contributing would do so regardless. Some would see this as an opportunity to double or triple down.

Very fair. And I have no idea what the percentage split looks like. For Miami, probably weighted heavily towards towards the big money guys. For some state schools pumping out 15,000 new alumni it may be different.

In this scenario do you think that the people already donating would be inclined to donate more?
Possibly. I think the majority of people would just take their $25 and put it towards the player they like. But regardless I still think it would barrel towards fans playing GM for the schools in a way that I think would go very poorly. I think that’s how you wind up as Colorado with 2 superstars and a bunch of nobodies around them. Or, some oil money school swoops in and takes the guys you have all the money for and then the staff is screwed.

Definitely. Check out the returners:

Ahmad Moten - solid rotational player
Justin Scott - limited snaps
Josh Horton - often injured/few snaps
Artavius Jones - redshirt
Daylen Russell - redshirt

Then we have two project DT recruits:

Donta Simpson
Mykah Newton

Even if you include Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor at DT, it's still really thin going into the offseason at the moment.
Bain is a end so is Mesidor we have to stop them doing both unless it’s in pass rushing situations Bain looked like a shell of himself with the added weight

I think you could say we fielded a team with very few superstars this year.

3rd center in a row? I know his dad. I’ll put in a good word when I see him.
