Linebacker's

I'd like to know who's teaching our LB's to crash INSIDE of pulling linemen. I've seen all our LB's do this. We just give up the edge. It's like a red carpet for the RB to the outside.

It's not uncommon to see DE's or OLB's do this at all. It's called "spilling", but our ILB's do it. As they're pursuing outside running plays they all-of-a-sudden duck inside. *shrugs*

You can have bad talent or bad coaching and have average defense. When you have both.....you have our defense. Which has no description. 500 yards every game has to be more than one thing. Its everything. Our defense is not good at anything. .....at all. Usually teams have one thing they are good at. Not us. We have the young talent and ones coming in. Just dont hold your breath thinking No D is gonna make them elite. Talent has to be there but it also has to be coached up

Gaines, Armbrister, and Cornelius are the worst linebackers at Miami in a long long time.

Sadly, those of you saying "we just need a talent infusion, man" fail to realize that's Golden's job. He's been here 3 years and he can't find someone to get them off the field? Has Raphael Kirby's eyes fallen out of his skull? Is JaWand Blue actually a real human being? Is Jermaine Grace even alive?

You want to be strict and run off guys like EJ and Terry, that's fine, but you can't find a couple kids better than those three dopes I listed in the third year of your program? I can't feel bad for you, especially when you brought one of them in.

Can Grace, Blue or McCord be any worse, heck Fentress played LB one game and made more tackles, at least give someone else a chance.

What exactly did you see today to make you think Kirby was going to be a major upgrade if he was starting? Grace is a true Frosh. If you are an HC and having to play a True Frosh, that kid better be a freaking PHENOM, or you are going to have problems.

And can we please cut the cr@p about Golden "running off" EJ. EJ ran himself off. Kid was given a TON of chances. He had to be pulled away from almost going to blows with his own position coach. Exactly how many chances can a kid get? I highly doubt Golden "ran" EJ off considering what he has to work with LB wise. Im sure Golden did everything he could to keep the kid here.

Weve just had some real bad luck personnel wise on the defensive side of the ball. We lost EJ, Terry (depth), Paul, and Bond didnt qualify. If we have those guys, Gaines and Cornelius rarely even see the field, and we might be 11-1 right now.

Cornelius is possibly the worst LB to ever start at the U. Had to rewind on 10+ today to truly appreciate how bad he is. Hope Al trusts our underclassmen LBs more next year. Rather mistakes by young, aggressive, talented LBs then whatever it is 31 does out there...

Maybe a kid like Skai Moore, from south Florida, who wanted to be a Cane, but was offered by the staff on signing day and told us to **** off. He's now starting in the SEC for South Carolina - a top 20 defense - and leads their team in tackles.

Good coaches bring in quality players and get **** done. Enough excuses for Golden.

embarrassing the loyalty to gaines. Guy has never had a double digit tackle game this year. no sacks, turnovers, etc Kirby is a total different kind of athlete. thank god he has been playing alot more the last 2 games.

Lets take a look at our starting LBs outside of Perryman:

Gaines--He's from Buffalo, NY. Just isn't a Miami type of athlete.
Armbrister--A WR playing LB.
Cornelius--Has the body type of a punter.

both ambrister and ty started out as safeties and armbrister was a late signee. Figs, Kirby, and Grace are the future. I pray Juwon Young gets in early and works in way in.
One positive is kirby and figs have experience now.

Hoping this group improves next year. I'm guessing the LB core would be Figs at WLB, Kirby/Blue at MLB, and Grace at SLB. I don't see any of the incoming guys(Young, McCray, Smith) beating them out.

kirby in the middle. he played alot last two weeks. hope it clicks mentally because he is a different kind of athlete than gaines.
Figs definitely will be ready after playing so much this year. lets hope grace gains the proper weight. I know juwon young is suppose
to come in early, not sure about owens.

i assume mccord will be a full time linebacker. all i know is he makes plays and is in position. he just blew a few tackles in open field
last week but he is a converted de so that is natural. he is learning.

everyone needs to relax i dont if you notice but our two linebackers that we're suppose to start left the team in the offseason i know it sucks but thurston and jimmy would have never started this season so we are really relying on our 2nd and 3rd string linebackers to start be realistic. this guys werent ready to start or maybe even suppose to be starters

exactly. eddie johnson would have been on the outside and gionni paul probably would have started over gaines. gabe terry would have provided depth. so grace would have redshirted.

McCord to OLB fulltime is disturbing to me for a few reasons and is a great example of how this defensive staff squanders and misuses talent. Tyriq needs to be able to utilize his speed on the edge. Despite his speed and athleticism he is not a natural in space.

The LB's in this ridiculous system are asked to do too much thinking and playing in reverse/laterally. This is not Tyriq's game. A guy like Grace is much better suited for this. He needs to be lined up opposite Chickillo as a WDE in a 4-3 one gap scheme.

If you are going to run a 3-4 or hybrid. Put the guy in the best position to make plays which is as a pure pass rusher. Either stand up OLB or hand down as a 4-3 end.

Like Chickillo he is another example of " Jamming a square peg in a round hole."
