I wish our coaching staff would start going after those Lb's that would just blow up the offense guards then the other Lb comes and clean up the carnage left at the wreck..I wish someone would upload that play when D.J Williams blow up that Lineman for Florida back when Grossman was there..It shows how nasty a Lb suppose to be then he was talking to the linenan after he blow him up.

That's not going to happen when your Dline stands in place. The delay alone costs between three and six yards.

And by having the LB's ten yards back, it's even more delay to even reach the line of scrimmage.

I have a question about the linebackers. maybe someone with a little more knowledge can help me out.

why do they take a jab step inside before they start the back pedal on that weak zone and even in man coverage? they obviously arent blitzing, so they arent fooling anyone... is it supposed to be a timing thing?

I always love it when people say we need guys like Ray Lewis, Dan Morgan, Jerome Brown, Warren Sapp and Cortez Kennedy.

Who doesn't need those players?

And how can you get those players when, from the moment you took the job, the lame stream media has been saying your program is getting the death penalty, and you can't answer questions about it for 3 years because you don't know?

You guys do know we've gone from 6 wins to 7 and now 9 in the absolute worst possible environment, and now the black clouds are gone.

I applaud this staff for what they've been able to do. I can't imagine anybody else doing what they've done, or even wanting to stick around to try.

Lots of NFL teams would like those guys.....I would take sean Spence, Cmac and lewis and Mcdougle right now

I was going to start a thread on this, but since this one is already here, figured I would just add to it.

Donofrio has his issues, but GAWD **** man our LBs are TERRIBLE. Jimmy Gaines and Cornelius are AWFUL. Perhaps two of the worst LBs I can remember playing at Miami in the last 30 years.

Seriously. These kids are TERRIBLE. I mean I feel for them, Gaines really tries, but the kid is in the wrong place 80% of the time. He cant shed blocks, he takes bad angles, and goes the wrong way constantly.

Cornelius I dont even know what to say. About the only thing he's even remotely useful for is coverage, and that's only because everyone else is worse. He is simply terrible against the run. Pretty much every running play ends up having to be stopped at the Safety level.

Our DL is pretty bad too. People can sit there and blame the scheme all the want, but the front 4 get NO penetration at all. Even when they try to pin their ears back and go up field, they get very little pressure.

This defense needs a SERIOUS talent infusion.

I would take "above average" play at linebacker right now. We're playing some real jags at linebacker outside of Perryman, who is good, but not good enough to cover up the other player's mistakes and be a one man army. He, too, has a few weaknesses, and when he is out there by himself, gets exposed. The entire front seven needs an ***** and an infusion of high end talent. There just isn't anybody who is Miami caliber on their best day throughout most of the two deep in the front seven (save Chickillo, Perryman).

There is also something to be said for 34, 31, and 59 playing as much as they do when you have Figueroa, Grace, and Kirby in there. Maybe it is because they are still young or maybe they just aren't as good as we would hope. I don't know, but those upperclassmen playing as much as they do is worrisome because they are not good.

Its not just a DLine problem. I was watching them closely today, and even when the DL tries to get up field, our LBs are hitting the wrong hole, or taking the wrong gap, or in the wrong place, or just flat out getting beat. Gaines and Cornelius are just very bad players. Im sad to say, because they try hard, but those two guys are two of the worst LBs I have ever seen play here.

You are dead on...these are not even Special team guys...they are slow week and have no Football smarts....31 on that TD pass to the RB...looked full ****** on the blitz..he should have had the sense to see the RB chip him and release.,,he hesitated on the blitz, the rb was left alone and really an easy score while 31 never whiffed the Qb....its our D in a nutshell.... Denzle god bless him , I hope he goes pro and runs from this team unless they get him some legit Dlineman to clear out some space...

kirby, figs, and grace are a different kind of athlete.

We better hope the light bulb comes on with Kirby soon. We need that kid to really start contributing. Figs is a great athlete too, but these kids need to learn the position. Something is seriously wrong on this defense. I said it before, and I will say it again. We need a new LB coach along with a new DC. Barrow should be moved to Special Teams. I dont want to lose him as a recruiter, but honestly, the LB play here has been getting progressively worse. You could throw two high school kids in there and I dont think they would play much worse than Cornelius and Gaines.

Our LBs that get serious PT besides perryman suck. They are TRASH......my only problem is Coach D constantly sends them fools back out there. There comes a point where you have to say OK I'm going to give Kirby some more snaps or put in Grace and see what he does. The talent between Armbrister, Gaines, Cornelius is a pain to watch these dudes stay in the wrong gaps or getting blocked to wherever the offensive player takes them. Dont get me started on that DLine either. Coach D is working with a horrible bunch of talent but I'd love to see some of the younger guys and ASAP!!!

if gionni gabe, and ej werent gone, those guys dont play. people forget we lost them. Grace would have been redshirted too.

Between the JAGs on the DL, Cornelius and Gaines, and guys like Highsmith, I think you have 60% or more of our problems on D right there. Honestly, I think I would seriously argue those 3 guys would have trouble playing at Duke.

I just know I watched Cornelius and Armbrister either crash down into the block, or turn his back to the ball on almost every run play. That's ridiculous that their doing that, because either the coaches are teaching that or they refuse to correct it.

I want to thank the guys for their efforts this yr, but man, I'm not going to miss, Gaines, Rodgers, Highsmith, and Cornelius. These guys are just not very good. Lets just hope Grace, Figs, and Kirby are!

It's called a Read Step.
