Let's take a good hard look at our 2009 and 2010 classes

A few of my favorite Randy Specials from those classes...

Devont'a Davis - When I was able to see him on Greentree, was one of the worst players I've ever seen here. Was Kevin Nelson's buddy. Major scrub. Passed on Ricardo Allen in place of this bum.

David Perry - I knew he was a bum when he first came on the recruiting scene. Too skinny at the time, didn't produce much in HS. Once he got here, obvious to all he just sucked. Couldn't shed a block if it was just a tackling dummy.

Jimmy Gaines - Nothing says Randy Special like a MAC recruited kid getting a late offer from Miami when he swung and missed on everyone else. A "word of mouth" commitment, from one of Randy's buddies...right up there with John Calhoun.

Andrew Tallman - Actually, let me scratch that...nothing says Randy Special like a UMass level kid getting an offer in September.

Kelvin Cain - Speaking of Randy guys that he heard about from his buddies...Kelvin Cain, across the country, was kind of a scrub in HS, but hey, lets sign this guy up! Didn't even have a committable offer from Oregon State.

Delmar Taylor - I think he played 3 games in his life before we offered and accepted his commitment. Luckily, he was from the Bahamas or something and couldn't get in. Whew.

Shayon Green - Miss out on everyone else? Lets get a guy that doesn't even have a committable Purdue offer.

Billy Sanders - Yeah, no one knew who he was then, either.

Another Randy Special that never was, unfortunately...Raheem Buxton...oh man, that would have been great to have Raheem on the list.

These are guys that nearly everyone on all 'Canes forums were scratching their heads over when they committed...

These guys aren't just recruiting busts...I mean, listen...I'm not going to hate on getting a commit from Keion Payne...tons of teams wanted him. Same with the likes of Jeremy Davis and Jamal Reid. But some of these guys listed above...taking those commitments smells like someone who don't know what he's doing or doesn't care what is going on.

If ya'll recall, our recruiting coordinator spent most of his time in Jacksonville, landing a total of no one while courting his wife or something. Brutal.

Failing grades all around.

Excellent post.

Honestly, 2010 was setting up to be a disaster as well. Anyone remember how many commits we had in November 2010 when Randy got fired?

We were striking out on EVERYONE. It was going to be a class of Buxtons. And that's not an exaggeration, either. It was looking BAD.

But for golden's efforts, finnie would be at s. car, rather than starting for us.

South Carolina has a **** good defense.

I think we had 10 commits and then 4 or 5 decommitted after he was fired.

I think even more decommitted cuz only Dorsett and Chick was on the list of commits from what I remember.

Yea actually the few he had committed were pretty good... I think Marc Jackson is starting at UTenn, Pierre-Louis was listed as the starter as a corner at BC before a fall camp injury and we all know about Teddy... The guy was fired an d all of the schedule visits were cancelled and a lot of his recruits de-committed...

I'm not in the fire Golden camp but in all honesty we need to stop bringing up Shannon and using him as an excuse... Personally, I think Golden should get at least 5 years and 6 years the most, but he has to coach better... I don't understand why everyone is surprised... We played the same way last week, but KSU is much better than BC... If it wasn't for BC being so nonathletic and Duke helping out with some long tds then the game would have been the same way... I mean we even started the game 14-0 just as last week... KSU is more athletic and was able to exploit our weaknesses and our speed could no longer bailed us out... That being said, we can't continue to point out Shannon failures... We have to move on and work on resolving our issues now... We can't have it both ways... You can't say we miss having a certain group of players and then saying we have no talent...

Look at my lists in this thread and tell me which of those upperclassmen you're confident in.

Great post. You are 100 percent correct, people need to stop bringing up Shannon, he is long gone. This is year 2 under Golden, and Shannon is brought up almost any time there is a negative issue with Miami football. When do posters get over it and realize Shannon is never coming back? When will the current coaches be held accountable, instead of nagging on the past? It seems as if any EXCUSE is being used at the moment to not hold the current Miami staff accountable. If it's not the "Shannon entitlement" issue, it's the "shammin/Swasey strength" issue, or it's "shannons players", or something else blamed on past regimes. Once again, some posters sound like a wife who was cheated on in the past, decided to stay in the relationship, and continuosally brings the situation up like a nagging *****. It's been two years, and you still can't move on? Get over it.

Even the guys contributing on that list are really just JAGs, so yeah, its frustrating as **** to see where the roster is and what we are expecting from them.

these might not be Cane material guys but **** Maine's defense did better against BC. sub division Mizzou schemed better for that K State offense. this list is why we can't compete for the ACC title. but we shouldn't be as horrible as we are on defense. putting LBs on WRs? having no one in the middle of the field against a QB like Collin Klein? never going 8 in the box while keeping a deep safety pretty much the entire time against a team that threw the ball 11 times and has run all over you? no ones expecting titles with these players, but the coaching has been horrible.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Put 8 in the box to stop the run and they put another 20 points on us. Who's a better QB, Klein or Rettig? Mix it up a bit though. Make adjustments for **** sakes! Don't just stand there and get kicked in the balls for four straight quarters!!

Those are some pathetic numbers.

How many guys starting for us now would start on a current top 10 team? I'd say no more than 5.

The excuse train is firing on all cylinders. How dare we expect something a little better than 92nd ranked run defense, 113th ranked pass defense, and 118th ranked total defense--not to mention all the records broken against us--against offensive juggernauts like BC and KState who ranked 112th and 101st respectively in total offense last year? Shame on us.

Tano's post is the argument ender. It is the sobering reality of where we are and why we are here. This is why nobody should compare Saban's second year at Alabama to Golden's second year. The only parallel is it is the second year.

Kind of hard to compare The best coach in college football to an up and coming coach. The other thing hard to compare to is Miami has Sucked for so long now they couldn't get Alabama's recruits.

Also Shula (Saban's predecessor) was actually a good recruiter and left him some good players. It was game day that was his problem. Saban isn't exactly the type to take on a roster full of turds that he has to completely rebuild.

For now, I am very grateful that Golden and Coach D are here, and are willing to rebuild this program.

i can't think of anyone on this team that would start on a top-5 team. Possibly perryman and maybe seantrell (who isn't even starting for us right now), but no one jumps out as a surefire starter to me on one of those top teams.
