LB Gavin Nix commits to Miami... flips to Oregon 12/3

I'm not to high on him and don't think hes quick enough for LT. But if hes one of the top 5 guys then he should play.
Well the staff see's him as a first round talent. They absolutely love him. He got a lot of snaps in his firs year and he's got a tone of eligibility left. Another year with a staff will take him to the next level. But I'm all for competition. If a stud is there, you obviously take him. That goes for every single position

His willingness to adjust the gameplan and players was way more nimble in 2023 than in 2024

He had arguably better top to bottom talent in 2024 and had a huge regression

Teams consistently exploited his playcalling

There’s no reason to debate this at this point, but you’re on an island saying that the defense was bad in 2024 because of players exclusively
also I heard weeks back Mario was not happy with him as a recruiter.

That's the furthest thing from the truth. I've said repetitively that its both. Guidry has to go because of how bad it got.

But at the end of the day, there's not a single chance that all of what we saw was what Guidry called and how it was drawn up.

It's defense.. the playbook is relatively small. You have your base calls and its up to the players to execute it and adjust it based on how the offense aligns. So it's reactionary. It was evident that they didn't know what to do when the picture changed.

We didn't execute basic fundamentals. But at the end of the day.. you either coach it or allow it to happen. His message or style isn't making it to the players. But I'm certain he didn't call a play for Meesh, Harris, and Zaquan or Markeith (whoever else it was) to cover the same dude and the same grass within 5 yards of each other and let OJ stand out there on an island all day.

Ya it's a BS approach to it…With the bigger conferences and unbalanced schedules "making a conference championship game" shouldn't give me any weight.

Again show me an SMU win…Lou is decent. Who else? Who has SMU beaten?

"Not gonna punishing a team who plays in their conference championship" laziness by the committee.
Ok apply that logic to Indiana too then

Yeah thats where I question them big time lol.

If he does pan out I see him like a Dawand Jones at RT. Late day 3 early day 4 pick.

But thats why I'm posting on CIS and they are making millions

The silence here on CIS is deafening. Since I haven’t seen a Bank or any lofty statements from the Kool-Aid in Chief, and it’s less than 12 hours from ESD, and I’ve seen flips and Loy and Fong flips from UM to other programs, is it safe to assume that we are going to take a lot of L’s tomorrow and maybe finish with a class ranked in the composite around 15?

It seems we will be looking forward to the Portal. My question to you or anyone is do we have a reason to look forward to the portal? Pointedly, will we also be out spent in the portal?

I’m sure the defensive performance is hurting us, and I see you pointing at Guidry, which I don’t doubt, but I also believe that there’s a money component to this more than anything. Unfortunately, I haven’t had conversations with people in the money end lately so I can only piece things together.
Correct. Mario is going to get worked in the portal too.

The biggest disappointments for me have been crippling our DLine with what we can be certain were his actual calls, and just the overall personnel PT decisions. At some point you have to just try someone different after it hasn't worked for 8 straight games.... and actually was getting progressively worse.

Ok the DL stunts were driving me insane and were probably scheme.

Still think assignments behind those stunts were probably botched.

Maybe D$ knows with Signing day on the horizon and schools dropping very heavy last minute bags, and with us currently already having lost some guys and in some heavyweight battles with critical recruits that will significantly impact the quality of this class and with the CFP rankings coming up soon here, he has chosen to not info dump yet...

I agree. And honestly the rumors off the off field problems and just general feel that there is no leadership on defense and how the coaches are disagreeing is probably what says to me we 100% need to move on. If this was just a talent issue that we couldn't overcome, I could see him getting another year. It's not like we didn't think a complete Pass D collapse wasn't on the table given our depth chart. But this appears to be worse than just having bad DBs and LBs.

he clearly can't recruit which I have been told was souring Mario on him.

Could be. I’m sure there’s an element of not putting out information that Mario doesn’t want out there.

When you say you think it’s coming do you mean Dennis will be replaced or Mario will hire someone over him? You’re not the first person on this site that says we need to run a more professional organization. Kind of scary to be honest.
I’m not 100% sure. The last few days have been interesting to say the least. I do think that help is on the way. Listen, I’ve voiced my discontent with Dennis. I also think he’s in an impossible role. Hope he gets someone over him and I hope Mario empowers that person. We honestly need more analysts or a better process to evaluate our needs. I know we’re working on that. It’s not all doom and gloom!
