LB Gavin Nix commits to Miami... flips to Oregon 12/3

I’m not 100% sure. The last few days have been interesting to say the least. I do think that help is on the way. Listen, I’ve voiced my discontent with Dennis. I also think he’s in an impossible role. Hope he gets someone over him and I hope Mario empowers that person. We honestly need more analysts or a better process to evaluate our needs. I know we’re working on that. It’s not all doom and gloom!
We need to get more top targets committed earlier and play more defense in recruitments rather than putting all our eggs in the flip basket for the end of the season. The fact is doing that is a problem when you are hoping to be making your CFP push at the end of the season.

But no matter what we need to have a much larger recruiting/target net than we have had - especially OOS, and we need to keep those nets out longer. It may be time consuming but we need to at least maintain these recruiting contact with kids that are open to being here (and are specifically being brought to the table by insiders) in case of last minute bag changes or just senior film changes to evaluations of guys we previously had above them.

Ultimately I just think some of the battles we've chosen to take a large part in also don't make the most sense. Why go so hard for Vernell Brown. I mean it's fine to recruit him but you can't be relying on him or Ben Hanks. Hanks makes more sense to me than Brown at least. Its like why choose to dedicate so much to Getting and then flipping Brown over getting like Jerome Myles and then flipping Myles from USC which should be much easier than Flipping Brown who was already a UF legacy. And now Myles has decommitted and Brown is a 100% lock to UF...

Things change. Show me who predicted Guidry sucking this bad.

I’m glad you spent the amount of time that you did digging into old quotes tho. They sure are meaningful

Yup true…Most of us (I mean I'm sure there's some know-it-all somewhere who was negative on just about everything and made sure they didn't miss Guidry in all their bytching and misery), but at least 75% of us were Guidry fans after year 1 and just about everyone else was neutral at worst.

So why did we cancel Wiley visit

Part of the reason given was that because of the schedule of his high school game he would only have 1 day on campus and that wouldn't be enough to give him the full OV experience. Dont know if that's true or not but it was part of the reason given.

That's the furthest thing from the truth. I've said repetitively that its both. Guidry has to go because of how bad it got.

But at the end of the day, there's not a single chance that all of what we saw was what Guidry called and how it was drawn up.

It's defense.. the playbook is relatively small. You have your base calls and its up to the players to execute it and adjust it based on how the offense aligns. So it's reactionary. It was evident that they didn't know what to do when the picture changed.

We didn't execute basic fundamentals. But at the end of the day.. you either coach it or allow it to happen. His message or style isn't making it to the players. But I'm certain he didn't call a play for Meesh, Harris, and Zaquan or Markeith (whoever else it was) to cover the same dude and the same grass within 5 yards of each other and let OJ stand out there on an island all day.
Assignment busts, angles, reading keys, eye discipline, etc is on the position coaches. The fact that there were multiple position groups with the similar glaring problems is on the DC

I said it in another thread.. I’m of the belief they thought they could skip a step in year 2 when they should have complete reinstalled from the ground up.

Missed a step somewhere or the way it was taught was poor

Definitely wishing nix the best, he went out the class respectfully
Leaving the class and staff the day before signing day is respectful?

Cmon man. We went 10-2.

Going 7-6 and I would understand.

Auburn and Florida understand that you have to pay to keep them locked in. Clearly this was either developing long ago or this was Oregon going after one of our best defender prospects with NIL late.

Don’t be fooled by a nice decommit notw

The silence here on CIS is deafening. Since I haven’t seen a Bank or any lofty statements from the Kool-Aid in Chief, and it’s less than 12 hours from ESD, and I’ve seen flips and Loy and Fong flips from UM to other programs, is it safe to assume that we are going to take a lot of L’s tomorrow and maybe finish with a class ranked in the composite around 15?

It seems we will be looking forward to the Portal. My question to you or anyone is do we have a reason to look forward to the portal? Pointedly, will we also be out spent in the portal?

I’m sure the defensive performance is hurting us, and I see you pointing at Guidry, which I don’t doubt, but I also believe that there’s a money component to this more than anything. Unfortunately, I haven’t had conversations with people in the money end lately so I can only piece things together.
Yeah - when was the last time @DMoney didnt do a Bank update a few days prior to ESD?

Prepare for misery is my feeling. Incredible after finally winning, we were told that was the last thing missing and then everything would open up for Miami.

It’s had the opposite effect somehow and we will be lucky to not be what FSU or UiF were this year.

The money isn’t going to evaporate. If we miss on high school guys we will put it towards elite transfers. I’m not trying to make excuses (not my job to recruit) but the offers out there are nonsensical. The view I’ve had and I maintain is you need to allocate $1-$2m think (what Scar did with their De and OSU did with JJ) a cycle to 1-2 can’t miss prospects. You also need to water those flowers throughout the year. And build around that nucleus with good evals. If you have 15 true players per class 2-5 difference makers and portal in (3-4) quality guys you can be in the playoff yearly with luck around health. Miami desperately needs institutional organization and a real GM. I think it’s coming but I’ve been let down before
I thought we were supposed to have been here with Alonzo only for him to bounce because, what? Mario and Dennis Smith? You would know better than most of us.

So the fact Mario ****ed that up like he has so many other coaching and personnel moves, that’s not encouraging in any way.

I have been in prove it to me mode in the field and in recruiting.

So far, results are not good enough. Very happy with the 10 wins but it was a “Root Canal” version of 10 wins.

I thought we've built up the organization where we are no longer lacking adequately staffed analyst departments.

I do agree in that there needs to be an overseer of all this stuff. Giving Mario control of all of it in addition to being the HC is a recipe for disaster - too much on one person.

Agree with all that but how do you explain last year's defense with less talent?

Agree. Only one player was a returning starter (not injured) with a hodge podge of transfers, true freshman, and returning reserves who didn’t get much PT last year. Recipe for disaster

True Freshman
  1. Zaqua Patterson
  2. Oj Fredrique
Returning Starter
  1. Darryl Porter
  2. Damari Brown - injured
Transfer Portal
  1. Dyomi Brown
  2. Mesh Powell
Returning Reserve
  1. Jaden Harris
  2. J Richard
  3. Markeith Williams
