Kyron Drones as a potential option (not in portal)

Mauigoa was one of the most improved players on the team imo

He was flat out violent. Another year getting better and yeah it could be a really good line for sure
The right side of the line should be very strong. Mauigoa is a beast and Cooper is solid (despite him taking a slight step back in this season). I’m not completely sold on the left side of the line yet. Bell has had some shaky moments.

He's also going to be compared to every other QB who wasn't pursued in the portal. It's not just to Emory and Cam.
that happens in every transfer / recruiting situation all the time

doesn't mean we still don't try to upgrade the room and get the best option currently available (assuming he enters)

Not that he’s him, but you all remember how crappy Hendon Hooker looked like at VT then Tennessee? Bring Drones to me. Kid can run, elude rushers, extend plays. Have Cam deliver him to us.
Not a bad comparison . Heupels offense made him into a beast. Situation is one of of the biggest keys with a qb’s success . What you have around him and who’s calling the plays / coaching.

It’s a fair point but they also have a top 5 defense in the country and a very good running game. We’re not about to trot out a top 30 defense anytime soon.
We’re not. But, we lost to a team that didn’t throw a forward pass either when we had a far more advanced offense. Slow game down, limit possessions, don’t turn it over and we can win some games.

I’m 4 beers in but Cribby making me blush for Drones. He wouldn’t have been the first guy I thought of in this portal season but we could do a LOT worse with the OL, running game and WRs around him.

I’ve been screaming this to anyone that’ll listen for 24 hours. If you’re willing to take the pick machine at SC then this is a no brainer. A lot cheaper too.
Depends on how you want to run your team. I'm sure cost will play a factor if there's a significant difference between the two.

Maiava is a high risk high reward guy. He could win you come games ala Cam....but also lose you some that you shouldn't with those throws, pocket panic sacks and 3-and-outs. He's confident though, pulls the **** trigger and won't back down.

Drones is the opposite. He won't win any games with his arm (there's a LOT of sub-200 yard games in his resume)....but he probably won't lose you any bc he doesn't take a ton of risk....quite honestly, he looks hesitant to pull the trigger sometimes, waiting for guys to clear and running if he doesn't like it. He's going to have more time consuming drives, picking up some 1st downs with his feet, throws a lot of underneath stuff, but he'll take unnecessary hits running when he should throw....so you better be ready with a backup QB just in case he gets nicked. Dawson would have to change a lot of the Cam offense to better utilize Drones.

Neither guy is ideal. It's tough to imagine Cam and the #1 offense in CFB this year not being able to attract a better option at QB, especially with NIL. I don't know if that's bc other teams are paying them more to stay, they are concerned with all the weapons leaving and afraid Mario may revert to bro ball, or what the story is.

I would have rather had multiple guys over Drones. But he's not a bad Plan B. We would have had a similar QB last year if we had landed Howard. Clearly you can make the playoffs with someone like this. Dawson will need to take a much more active role in playcalling, not just hand over the keys to his QB like he did with Cam.

Drones is the next qb we will argue about just for him to not enter

Yes. By short-sighted stupid porsters who can't fathom that we had a pecking order and missed on one or more guys.

You can't just put a dozen guys on the same level and then act like the one we landed was our choice all along.
Very true...none of them know that pecking order or who was pursued vs who wasn't. I'm sure many just expected it was all-in for Mateer and nobody else until he passed....then slight panic looking for a replacement with others already off the board, similar to the Cam vs everyone last year and Howard being the only other guy that appeared to be in true contention.

Bo Nix Auburn vs Oregon
Jayden Daniels ASU vs LSU

There are a ton of these. Those are just 2 recent ones. A change of scenery can do wonders for a kid.

Here’s one some of you may be familiar with. Kid on the west coast with a ton of talent but his team lost a bunch of games, he turned the ball over a ton, was trying to do too much because his OL sucked and he was running for his life. Had some decent weapons but couldn’t put it all together. Likely a middle round pick, or worse. Left there and went to a team with a kick-*** offensive line who gave him all sorts of time to throw, with some good backs and receivers and a coach who fit his skill set. The dude became a Heisman finalist. Can anyone guess who I’m talking about?

at this point it’s the best option being discussed. The USC kid seemed to have moments where he looked decent and then a ton of WTF moments. Drones could thrive with Dawson and the rest of the pieces on the offensive side of the ball. Hopefully our staff is thinking the same at this point and Cam is back channeling something here. I keep trying to let everything play out but we are running out of time, we need our qb to at least get some reps in the spring with the offense before going against that pretty **** good ND defense week 1.

We’ve reached the stage of tossing Cam Ward’s situational improvement out as potential for what this guy could do. We are so mother ******* back.

Seriously though. Yes. Flaws. Obvious. But since I don’t see anyone claiming he’d set the floor at 10 wins, I’ll say that unlike a certain future NFL GM reputation ruiner, Drones would truly be stepping into a much, much better situation.

How the heck do you bring Pry back next year if your VT? Probably lose even more guys to portal after this game. This is a bad team. Lucky to win 5 games next year - USCe and Vandy OOC.
they played this game with all their little kids. Watson at QB lol. that kid will certainly be in the portal good heavens is he bad and really not a D1 QB no matter what.
